The Best Laid Wedding Plans

My big news this week is not my own. My son and his fiancee decided to pull the plug on their mid-July wedding plans. It was a tough decision, but we’re proud of them for making the call. Love in the time of coronavirus is not for the faint of heart!

When they announced their decision, they also let everyone know they were getting married in our backyard this morning. The best laid wedding plans will have to wait, but they didn’t want to wait any longer. It’s hard to believe, but we are so happy for my son and his wife–we love them both dearly and wish them all the happiness they deserve.

Weekly Run Down

Since I’m busy with other things today, I’m going to jump right to my workout recap. Let’s just say I probably overdid it trying to combat my stay-at-home stir-craziness. Some restrictions were eased in Northern Virginia on Friday, but I’m trying to stay cautious for a while longer–although now I don’t have a July wedding to stay healthy for ….

Monday:  5k run with Scooby + Peloton Strength Workouts
Another Monday with weather too nice to resist called for another 5K run with Scooby before my planned Peloton strength workouts. I also started a 4 week Peloton core program.

Tuesday: 45 min Peloton Treadmill Workout
Chase Tucker has a really mellow vibe, but his workouts are not easy! I also did the week 1/day 2 Peloton core workout.

Wednesday:  5K with Scooby + Peloton Strength Workouts
I woke up early and decided to chase the sunrise. It’s not easy from my house–it’s about 1.25 miles before I see this view.

Scooby is there in the foreground.

Remember what I said about overdoing it?

Thursday:  30 min Corepower Yoga
After all those Peloton workouts, it was time for some yoga. This program was short but not really easy.

I squeezed in the week 1/day 3 core workout when I had 10 minutes between conference calls–that’s one advantage of continuing to work at home. 😉

Friday:  Peloton Bootcamp + Core Workouts
I love Jess Sims, but I was not liking her very much during this workout! I did like her animal-themed “plank party,” with spider planks, bear planks, and froggers.

Saturday: Virtual Lawyers Have Heart 10K + 15 mile bike ride
Scooby was a good companion for the virtual Lawyers Have Heart 10K, but all his stops to sniff/piddle meant my time won’t set any records.

Sunday: 4 Scooby Miles
Started the big day with a short run with Scooby to try out my new running shoes-Brooks Ravenna 11.

I would have stayed with Brooks Ascend but they were $160 (!) and not carried by my local running store. Since I wore the Ravenna with no issues last year, I figured they were a pretty safe bet. Instead of waiting for new appointment-based in-store shopping this coming week, I opted to order on-line for curb-side pickup.

Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up. It’s always great for motivation and encouragement.

Do you know anyone with summer wedding plans?

Congratulations to your son and new daughter in law! I totally understand that they didn’t want to wait any longer to get married, and now they get to have a big celebration party in 2021 – sounds like a great plan!

I agree with you about Chase – he has such a calm demeanor but he’s hard! I can’t believe that the Brooks Ascend were $160 – hat’s insane! I wear the Ravennas and Adrenalines and I even think those are only $100-$120 normal price.

They’ve already been engaged for 18 months, and only waited this long for venue/planning purposes, so it was time to get married for sure. Next year, we’ll celebrate with everyone.

Yeah, the Ascend are crazy expensive, and the pair I got in January was showing real wear. Pfft.

A wedding in your backyard! Well, that doesn’t happen very often!
Congratulations to the newly wedded couple! 👏🏻 And now you are a real mother-in-law! 😊
My niece got married two weeks ago in Italy. It was a small ceremony and her family and friends in the UK watched via zoom. The bridesmaids were all wearing face masks. It was bittersweet. I feel sorry for all the couples planning weddings this year.

    • Coco says:

It sure doesn’t happen often — although maybe more this year than ever (in modern history at least). Congratulations to your niece. It’s a hard year to get married but you surely won’t forget it.

  3. Laurie says:

Wow! Congratulations to your son and his wife. I think they made a good decision. And now you have a new daughter-in-law!!!

My hubby is a Brooks guy and he is trying to figure out what shoes to get right now too. I think he should go in to the local running store and get some advice from someone there. I like to get a professional opinion before I make any changes to running attire. Shoes are so important!

    • Coco says:

Our running store is doing fittings by appointment now. It’s definitely worth it if he has a reason to change models — or if the new version of his model doesn’t work for him.

My son and his fiancée just pulled the plug on the August wedding. Tuesday in July- immediate family only – at her church in Arlington is the plan!

  5. therightfits says:

Congratulations to your son and daughter in law!! how did the backyard event go?? That’s so cool.

  6. Birchwood Pie says:

Congratulations on the wedding! So exciting!

  7. Mazel Tov! Wow! That must have made you so happy!

Running with Bandit and his need to pee on something everytime I stopped to walked was one of the reasons I wasn’t super fond of ruining with him.

I like to watch the sunrise from my bay window. 🙂 i’m up, but i just don’t want to be out . . .

    • Coco says:

Thank you! There is a nice sunrise view from my bedroom window — over the treetops and neighbors’ houses, but when I see that I know I’m way too late for a “runrise” run.

  8. Congratulations to you all! I am glad they went ahead with the nuptials anyway. It will be so special to have their wedding the way they dreamed it would be next summer. It will be all the more special for them. Totally forgot this was the lawyers have heart weekend. Way to get that done. It was a gorgeous few days though!

    • Coco says:

We really have had great weather these past few days — perfect for a family not-too-gathering on the patio. 😉

  9. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Congrats to the family, especially the newlyweds. I saw your post about postponing until 2021, but missed the detail about THIS morning. You did have a busy week…I hope you’re on the couch (or at least off your feet) and doing n.o.t.h.i.n.g 😉

  10. Wendy says:

Congrats to your son and DIL! My former medical assistant did the same thing this week–she got married, even though she had to postpone her big wedding. I think that speaks volumes for these couples–it really is all about love!

    • Coco says:

‘Tis the season of postponed and/or downsized weddings. There will have to be a new name for the postponed celebrations after the vows have been said.

  11. Congrats to your son and new daughter-in-law! How wonderful that they chose to get married in your back yard.

  12. Cari says:

Congratulations! I also missed the same detail Kim did.
Always love seeing Scooby in my morning feed

  13. Lisa says:

Congrats to your son and his wife! That’s unfortunate that they cant have a big celebration this summer, but I’m glad they could get married!

  14. Marcia says:

Congrats to your son and daughter in law! I’m sure that was a tough decision, but such is life in the age of Corona I guess. The wedding we had on our calendar for May 30 was cancelled as well. They did a ceremony for family via Zoom and the reception will happen sometime next year.

  15. Wow congratulations to your son and daughter-in-law!! Good for them for not letting anything stand in the way of getting married – now they’ll have a wonderful celebration to look forward to.

You had an awesome week of workouts!

  16. Congrats to your son and your daughter-in-law!!! I remember you mentioning in another post about their wedding. I am sure it wasn’t an easy decision but right now with how things are there is no point in waiting.

No one I know is getting married anytime soon. Most of my family and friends are already married.

  17. Renée says:

I was so sad about your son and his fiancee having to postpone their wedding! But didn’t realise they actually got married anyway!!! Congratulations to them!!

Kudos on a good workout week too!

  18. Oh wow!! Congrats to the happy couple! I can see how they wouldn’t want to wait anymore. Very exciting! Great workouts this week. A lot of them! My Peloton trial will be ending, and sadly I won’t be renewing. My workouts have changed to a lot of outdoor stuff now, so it won’t be worth it for me.
