Quick April Showers Runfessions

April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, but I’m runfessing about a different type of shower. To find out more, join me at the runfessional hosted at  Marcia’s Healthy Slice so we can cleanse our souls soles before we head into May.

Quick April Showers Runfessions

My office is ramping up expectations for in-office presence, and I workfess, I don’t really mind. I like getting out of the house, enjoy having my Starbucks, and like talking to real live people at work. That said, I don’t like getting stuck in traffic. To avoid a bumper-to-bumper morning commute, I either leave my house really early to workout at my office gym or workout at home and try to leave my house before the school bus comes down my street at 7:11.

In my head, when I set my alarm for 4:50 am I should be able to walk Scooby and fit in an hour’s worth of Peloton classes before jumping in the shower @ 6:30, but in reality, I forget the extra time between classes, and my need to round up my mileage at the end of a tread or bike class.

With all my hamstring issues, I’m not going to skimp on stretching to avoid traffic, but I runfess I surprised myself at how quickly I can get ready for work. On this day in April I started CDE’s stretch at 6:34 and still made it out the door by 7:05. That was a quick April shower! 😃

I runfess that with all my business trips this year, I am becoming obsessed with finding hotels with Peloton bikes so I am not forced tempted to run every day. On my last trip to Chicago, the hotel gym had three Peloton bikes, but only one was in good shape, and then the wi-fi was barely strong enough to stream classes. I was able to take one 20 min ride, but I’m not sure it was worth the real estate my cycling shoes took up in my carry-on suitcase!

I runfess that the Peloton app goaded me into taking “cardio” classes with daily reminders that I was only 2 classes away from my 10th class milestone. I looked for some 10 minute classes I could take as a warm-up, and actually found some good ones.

Ironically, I earned both that #10 badge and my 9K minute badge in the same 10 min class. Every minute counts!

I runfess that now that the Peloton app lets me log miles I run on my non-Peloton tread, I am back to reaching the “gold” level of the Peloton monthly running challenges.

It’s not a very high bar (40 miles)

All those miles could be a sign  my hamstring is healing, but I runfess it’s more likely a sign that I’m giving up on being pain-free and doing what I can tolerate and recover from.

What are you runfessing?

How quickly can you get ready to go somewhere after a workout?

25 minutes from finishing your workout to get out the door – that’s impressive!
Anybody who says they have no time for workouts should have a look at your schedule.
I used to do lunch workouts and then hasten from the shower to work. More than once, I sat in a meeting room with a flushed face and the post-run sweat trickling down my forehead…

See now I no longer get invited to all those Peloton challenges and I miss them. Nice job being very quick in the morning!
My daughter has an office optional thing at her job. She goes in 3x/week but she says inevitably very few or nobody will be in the office so she’ll have to do all of her meetings via Teams anyway and there’s no office culture/camaraderie as a result. Kind of sucks.

I can take a VERY fast shower! The problem here is, waiting to cool down enough after running in the heat. I’m always impatient, get in the shower, then get out and realize I’m still sweating.
If you’re running with a mild degree of pain, that’s not getting worse and worse, then I think it’s fine. Of course I’m not a doctor so you probably shouldn’t listen to me. (But I’ve recovered from a lot of injuries!)

I do enjoy an occasional live work day to talk to real people and get my Starbucks. But not everyday.

My hotels usually have peloton but I prefer running outside.

I’m not good with working out and getting ready after quickly.

I am like lightning to get ready.

Yes, I’d love to lounge around and take my time, but I can be in and out of the shower (with shaving) in ten minutes. My hair is curly so I can towel dry, scrunch with mousse, and wrap it in a tshirt to let it dry while I slap on makeup. I can get a decent face on in under ten minutes as well. And then clothes on and out the door. Boom.

  6. I can get ready quickly, shower included, if I don’t have to wash and dry my hair. Since I showered (and washed my hair) last night, right before bed, I was out the door in about 40 minutes. And that included a 10-minute stretch class 🙂

It’s good that you enjoy going into the office. Starbucks can be a great motivator!

My hair takes forever to wash, dry, and then flat iron, so if it’s not a hair-wash day, I can get ready pretty quickly. Your timeline is impressive!

  8. I could never get ready that fast! My hair takes a long time to blow dry but I am down to a fast makeup routine. Taking a class on a Peloton bike is good incentive to workout in the office and I do love it when my hotels have the bikes too.

  9. Michelle says:

Those Peloton badges are hard to turn down 🙂

That was a speedy shower! I’ve been trying to avoid sitting in traffic by leaving extra early but still haven’t nailed the workout/shower/dressed and out the door timing well enough yet.

  10. I also take a fast shower. It helps that I don’t wash my hair every day but I will rinse it with water. Sweat on my hair is gross to me. I also liked going to school when we were still dealing with the pandemic. I wanted to get out of the house too.
