About Me

Hi! I’m Coco, a 40-something 50-something wife, mother (empty-nester), attorney, and runner.

This blog catalogs my thoughts, experiences, struggles, and triumphs as I try to balance everything life throws my way with fitness and faith. Staying fit helps me get through the daily stresses of work and family, while my faith helps me handle the bigger issues.

I have been running since 2001, through the trials of injuries (including a 6-month lay-off after a DVT), raising teenagers, and managing a successful but stressful career. My friends, family, and faith keep me going.

I was overweight and out of shape most of my life, and it only got worse during law school. I graduated in 1999 with 20 extra pounds and too many extra blood pressure points. I dieted away my law school weight and more, lost over 40 pounds, and became “skinny” for the first time in my life. I quickly learned that I would have to exercise to keep the weight off, and made exercise a part of my daily routine. (If you want to read about my weight loss journey, I shared it on Carla Birnberg’s blog here.)

Now I truly love the way healthful food and exercise make me feel, but I also am a firm believer in daily doses of dark chocolate and always enjoy a good IPA.

My Christian faith is a core part of my identity, and I want to let others know that God’s love is offered to everyone. The name of this blog is inspired by this Bible passage from Hebrews 12:1-3

Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith ….

It expresses my “I will never give up” attitude, and reminds me that my ultimate goal is not a finish line here on earth.

… randomly came across your blog, love it! Loving the quote, "too school for cool" may use this quote as a banner. I am a teacher of the gifted in TN. I think my 7th and 8th graders would love this as they begin the year, oh, on Aug.8! I only began running May 2010 and will, hopefully, complete my first 1/2 marathon in October.
