Marching To The Runfessional

Here we are at the end of the first quarter of 2024–can you believe it?! Since it’s the last Friday of the month, it’s time to go marching to the runfessional hosted at  Marcia’s Healthy Slice so we can cleanse our souls soles before we head into April.

Marching To The Runfessional

While my hamstring is healing, it is still frustrating me by being finicky—just like it was around the time of  our February runfessions. It was 100% fine after my 4 mile run on Monday, but grumpy after my 3.7 mile run on Wednesday.  I runfess that I am over it and so ready to get back to “just” running again without worrying if I am doing too much too soon or need another day off instead. ~sigh~

I promised you a wardrobe change runfession that arose from my quick trip to Chicago. Here’s what happened. I was really looking forward to a run and even packed winter running gear—headband, gloves, tights, long-sleeved top, vest, etc. But I had packed for the forecast temperature of the upper 20s, not the “feels like” wind chill in the mid-teens. I was about to head glumly to the hotel gym when I spotted the “athleisure” top in my suitcase I’d packed for my flight home. It had just the extra thickness I needed to brave the outdoors.

Talbots doesn’t have the same pattern on their website anymore, but it’s this style.

At the time, I told myself I’d just wear my long-sleeve running shirt on the plane, but I runfess when I was getting dressed the next morning I opted for the same top. I had hung it up and confirmed it wasn’t damp or stinky! 😉

I runfess it didn’t take me long to solve my Garmin dilemma. Since I still have my Fenix for tracking long distance activity (bike rides and hiking), I only was interested in getting the same model again—the VenuSQ that looks like an Apple Watch. Facebook was showing me ads for other Garmins on sale on Amazon, but when I clicked through I saw that the VenuSQ was on sale as well.

Amazon also reminded me I last bought this item in April 2021. I’m pretty sure it was on sale then, but I paid almost $50 less this time. 🤷‍♀️

I runfess I still haven’t been to yoga yet this year—or set that 4:40 am alarm! I am going to bore us all with this same runfession until I start using that package of classes I bought! I finally went to yoga last night 🧘‍♀️ but I wasn’t thrilled with the instructor’s style and it aggravated my hamstring a bit. I runfess I am tempted to just sell the gift card I bought for myself and be done with it.

What are you runfessing?

Haha, sometimes you have to be flexible, right?!
I went cycling yesterday and my underpants were bothering me. So halfway through, I stopped at a bathroom, took off my underpants and just wore my bike shorts. It felt instantly better! I stuffed my underpants in my pocket for the rest of the ride.
When I got home, I googled the underpants and bikeshorts thing and learned that commando is the way to go. Lesson learned!

  2. I also was not prepared for the wind chill temps in Chicago! the temps just feel different there and I was not pleased either and ended up wearing an extra layer as well and glad I did.
Also have not been to a yoga class bc I am pretty sure it overstretched my hamstring and glute last time

  3. Jenny says:

When you’re running in that kind of weather, your outer layer is definitely not going to get sweaty! I would have worn it again too.
Yes, it’s so annoying to STILL be thinking about your hamstring. I promise you, you’ll get to a point, someday, where you won’t even remember which hamstring it was. I know it’s hard to imagine now, but that day will come.

  4. Michelle says:

I’m so with your on just wanting to get back to running – I’m sorry your hamstring is still giving you trouble 🙁

  5. Jenn says:

I’m a sweaty person, and I wouldn’t think anything of rewearing that outer layer!

Sorry about the yoga. That’s so frustrating.

  6. Your wardrobe-Fession is totally inline with all of us, LOL. I may have worn a pair of salsa-stained leggings (from the haphazard cleaning commotion of moving) for yesterday’s walk because I didn’t have time (or memory) to find a clean pair before the moving truck arrived for unloading (more details forthcoming).

  7. Marcia says:

I’m sorry Chicago weather was not kind to you. Why do I live here again?? Haha! Props to you for finding an extra layer to run in. I may have just bagged the run. I just joined an outdoor yoga class sponsored by lululemon while we were in Palm Beach so I’m good for the year! Ha!
