Finicky February Runfessions

Even though February is extra long this year, it’s already the last Friday of the month. That means it’s time to gather at the runfessional hosted at  Marcia’s Healthy Slice where we can cleanse our souls soles before we head into March.

Finicky February Runfessions

I runfess that I finally, really, truly believe my hamstring is healing. I am crossing my fingers and knocking on wood while I type this, because it is still a bit finicky, but I’m at that injury recovery stage of expecting to feel a twinge but then noticing I don’t.😀

That said, I am still structuring my workouts carefully, focusing on PT exercises for lower body strength. Some of the exercises are tiresome, but I runfess this isometric move is my favorite. What’s not to love about an “exercise” you do on your back without lifting anything?.

I’m using my hamstring to dig my heel into my fitness ball

I runfess having to use the hotel gym while I was in NYC was a good way to make sure I didn’t overdo it. The (small) room was so warm, it made me realize how much I take for granted the comfort of working out at home, where I can control the temperature. I enjoy working out, but if my only option was an over-heated gym, it would be a struggle.

I runfess I was nervous and a bit excited when my orthopedist thought I’d be able to do the Lawyers Have Heart 10K in May.

I runfess that I was both relieved and disappointed when I realized it conflicts with a conference I’m speaking at in Austin, so I won’t be able to do it after all. I’m relieved because I don’t want external pressure on my recovery, but disappointed because it is such an important cause to me—and this year is the 100th anniversary of the American Heart Association.  Now I have to figure out if I can still spearhead an office team if I won’t even be around.

I runfess I still haven’t been to yoga yet this year—or set that 4:40 am alarm! I do have a package of classes to use, so I’ve got to get back to it.

What are you runfessing?

Yoga was the final straw for my hamstring after I hurt it. I was in a class doing some sort of forward fold when it ruptured and I had to crawl out. Ugh. Maybe its a good thing you’re not going to yoga as yet. Bummer about the race but maybe that’s for the best too. Glad to hear its healing!

  2. Melodie says:

Great news about your hamstring! I hate you are unable to run the 10k! Hopefully you can find another 10k close to you shortly after that.

  3. Michelle says:

I’m sorry that you’ll miss the race but totally understand the feelings of relief. Why does injury recovery have to be so hard…and slow?! I’m glad to hear your hammy is making progress. It’s a good sign that your ortho green-lighted you running the race!

  4. Jenny says:

Hooray! That’s great news about the hamstring- these things DO heal up eventually, it just seems to take so long.
EEK to Marcia’s story about yoga and her hamstring. Yes, maybe it’s good you haven’t been there this year! Let the hamstring heal up first! Besides… 4:40 is just painful.

  5. OH I did not know the LHH race was in May this year. Hmm that is tempting. I think that I over stressed my hamstring and glute when I went to yoga a few months ago. Glad yours is feeling better

  6. I can’t remember the last time I took an actual yoga class (via Peloton, that is). I do several yoga poses & flows on my own, though, for warm-ups & cool-downs. Glad to hear the hamstring is feeling better!

  7. Jenn says:

Oooh, I bet that yoga would be so good for you!

How disappointing about the race! I know that’s the one you look forward to most every year! I hate that you won’t be able to make it 🙁

  8. Darlene S Cardillo says:

I still have $$ from two yoga classes that I signed up for in 2o20.

Good news about the hamstring! Fingers and toes crossed.

Too bad about the race… but maybe you can register for another if you are healed.

I’ll tell you. the first trace after an injury is scary.

  9. Catrina says:

YAY for the hamstring!! I know exactly what you mean – you get up out of your chair and your expecting a twinge… and there’s nothing. Such a great feeling!

I hope you can motivate your office colleagues despite not being around. Tell them to take lots of photos!

  10. Cari says:

5a is fine. 4:40 is just “too early” and yes I can hear Kim laughing at me for that.
    That exercise hurts my hammy!
