A Happy Hamstring Update

I wouldn’t go so far as to say my hamstring is happy, but I am happy because my hamstring is finally getting better.

Messy hair, and really don’t care!

Weekly Run Down

If you saw my runfessions, you know I am convinced my hamstring finally is really healing, although it is still finicky and susceptible to flare-ups. For the past few weeks I haven’t felt  it during the running intervals of my run + walk stints on the treadmill, but this week I also noticed not feeling it when I got up from my desk and walked around my office. 🤞

Sunday: I really enjoyed Hannah’s Valentine’s Day ride. She dedicated each song to a different type of relationship status and shared funny stories from her own love life. 💘

Monday: While President’s Day was a holiday for my office, I had to work on the “homework”  some of the Senators sent as a follow-up to the hearing I testified at (officially called “Questions for the Record” that I need to answer). I still took time for a leisurely workout including Susie and JTR’s “Galentine’s day” class.

Tuesday: I don’t take many cycling classes with Matt Wilpers because he mostly does Powerzone classes (which work best if you’ve done a pre-test to find out your levels, and I haven’t done that) but his basic classes are full of form tips and coaching gems, and this new beginner class was no exception.

Wednesday: I used Marcel’s walk to both walk Scooby and do my PT exercises, and then hopped on the tread to do my own run/walk intervals during Camils’ Green Day run—it would be a great class to take again when I am healthy enough to push myself.

Thursday: I got hit by the ATT outage while walking Scooby, so I didn’t get to finish Logan’s walk. After doing Adrian’s strength class at home, I headed to my office gym to use the Peloton bike. I was surprised at how busy the gym was at 6:30 am—there were four others there.😱

Friday: I took some detours from my 2:1 run/walk intervals during Jess’s Nicki Minaj run and probably did more than my hamstring was ready for, but it felt good in the moment. I didn’t follow her crazy cuing, but did my own variations on some of her intervals.

Saturday: I wasn’t planning to take Scooby for a test run, but when Andy’s new run aligned with mild temperatures (in the 40s), I couldn’t resist. We covered 2-ish miles at a very easy pace, and it felt so good! My hamstring wasn’t completely silent afterwards, but I think it will be OK after a day off.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Did you have President’s Day off?

I did have the day off which is why I pick this time to go on vacation.

Happy news! Hope the hammy continues to improve.

I use 90:30 for intervals and I’m just happy to be running again.

I am hating how cold it is and can’t wait for some warm up this week.

When do you go back to NYC?

  2. Glad to hear you are feeling a lot better this week. Matt does have fab cueing and training tips sprinkled into his classes. I will have to take that class this week. I’ve been doing less cycling these days and more strength. have a great week

  3. Melodie says:

So glad you are on the mend! How did you like the Timbaland Full Body? I have that one bookmarked. Did you know Joslyn started a podcast? Susie was her first guest! Glad you and Scooby were able to get out for a run!

    • Coco says:

I really liked Adrian’s Timbaland class — so much I bookmarked to take again sometime — and I don’t always like his classes.

  4. Jessie says:

Oh, I’m so happy to hear that you are feeling better about your hamstring. Very promising!

  5. Jenny says:

Hooray!!! This has been a long, frustrating journey for you and I’m glad that hamstring is FINALLY feeling better! Hopefully those healing vibes are contagious, I need them.
To answer your question… I don’t usually have President’s Day off but I did this year, and it was amazing. My daughter was off of school so I could sleep late… I loved it.

  6. Excellent news on the hammy!! I need to grab Hannah’s ride, those Valentines stories sound fun!

  7. Catrina says:

YAY!! So glad it’s going uphill! That’s excellent news.
How long have you been nursing that hamstring? Since the beginning of the year or longer?
I hope that “homework” counts as work time and is credited to your billable hours!

    • Coco says:

      It’s definitely non-billable, but that’s OK.

I trace my hamstring issues to the second race I did last year — the Parkway Classic in April. I was pain-free for Cherry Blossom just before that.

  8. Melissa says:

Yay for having the hamstring starting to feel better! Here’s to taking it easy and listening to your body.
I did not have President’s Day off, but since my 3 little ones had no school, I did take the day off. It was nice to have a long weekend/short week!

  9. Debbie says:

What great news that your hamstring is starting to feel better! Here’s hoping Scooby will have his running partner back soon!

  10. Wendy says:

So glad to hear that your hamstring is feeling better. I hope you will ease back into things so that it doesn’t flare up again!!

  11. Cari says:

Yay, especially not feeling it when you stand.
Glad you survived the great AT&T outage <3

  12. I did have President’s Day off. Ironically, I completely forgot I had the day off when I did my blog recap (all written on Sunday) and wondered why I ran late on Monday morning and not on the treadmill! haha! Yes, it was very memorable.
Glad to hear the hammies are starting to behave! Fingers crossed it stays that way, and keeps going towards 100% fixed!
I missed the recap when you talked about your job – but how cool you were involved in that!

  13. Susanne says:

Yay! It made me glad seeing your smiling face and the title of this post! I’m so happy for you! You’ve been struggling with this for so long. Hope all goes smoothly from here as you ease back into your normal.

  14. Jenn says:

Yay! This is so amazing to hear!

I set my own hours, so yes, I absolutely had off for President’s Day and so did A. We had a mother-son day that was pretty awesome, and I was grateful for it!
