Verifiable Vagueblogging

You’ve heard of vaguebooking—and maybe seen it in your Facebook feed—but I hope you’ll indulge me in a bit of verifiable vagueblogging.  I call it verifiable because I’m going to tell you everything, just not in an SEO-optimized way that might accidentally lead work colleagues and clients to this blog. 😉

The Capitol at dusk—not a running photo!

Verifiable Vagueblogging

I don’t talk about work much because my most interesting projects are usually highly confidential, but this week I got to do something very exciting and very public!

I was invited to share my thoughts under oath on a legal issue to a subcommittee of lawmakers who have proposed to address the issue with a new law.

Official photo of my panel

I was one of eight people invited to speak across two panels. As a citizen, it was interesting to see how they balanced the speakers. Each panel had one former head of the patent office in support of the new law and one industry representative against it. I was there as in “in the trenches” person helping clients cope with the current law, and the other panel had an “in the trenches” inventor and entrepreneur.

I have no idea who those women are,
but I’m glad they’re riveted by my statement. 😉

If you want to figure out more, there’s a webpage dedicated to the event and you can find a clip of me speaking  here.

I didn’t let myself get nervous ahead of time, but I sure was exhausted once I got home! It was such an amazing experience and I’m not just being polite when I say it was truly an honor to have been selected!

Weekly Wrap

On the fitness front, I do believe my hamstring is responding to shockwave therapy, and am truly trying to be patient. I’ve had my last scheduled treatment, but my orthopedist said she can do more if I feel like I still need it after we give it a few more weeks. I was fine after a 2 mile walk/run on Tuesday, but not fine after a 3 mile walk/run on Thursday. I am trying to get used to choosing to “run less today so I can run again tomorrow”—or the day after tomorrow. 😉

I’ve appreciated having  the Breakthrough Crew’s Jacked January Challenge focused on upper body strength, and wonder what they have in store for February.

Sunday: As I’m wearing shorts while writing this, it’s hard to believe it was in the teens on Sunday so I did not start my day by walking Scooby!  I did a strength workout before church, then took him for a walk once it was a bit warmer, and then hopped on my IC4 for my 500th ride with Cliff.

Monday: I’ve been missing the Peloton Lanebreak classes, so I headed into my office gym to use the Peloton bike there.Rebecca’s strength class had a lot of PT-type exercies—another one to bookmark and keep in rotation.

Tuesday: This was the big day! I knew I wanted to run, but I also knew I didn’t want to be sore afterwards, so I held myself to 2 miles of 2:1 run/walk intervals. My hamstring was relatively quiet on the tread, and didn’t complain later.😀

Wednesday: After last week’s DOMS, I hesitated to take another lower body class with Tunde, but I checked the class plan ahead of time and it looked OK. I let myself work pretty hard in Hannah F’s HIIT + Hills ride—at least it was only 20 min.

Thursday: I chose a longer run Thursday, telling myself that if it was too much my orthopedist would take care of it. 😬 Well, it was a bit too much, but I think my last shockwave treatment did help me recover. Now that I’m done with treatments, I won’t have that safety net to fall back on.

Friday: I wanted to do Leanne’s Earth, Wind and Fire ride on a Peloton bike, so I made a rare Friday appearance at my office gym. It was a great playlist and fun ride.

Saturday: With temperatures in the 50s, it was hard not to take Scooby out for a run, but I restrained myself. After a short strength workout, I did some PT exercises and a hip mobility class before hopping on my tread for 2 miles of walk + run intervals. 🤞

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

That is an exciting week! Though I’m still not exactly sure what you did. I guess the vague post worked ha!
Good job doing your PT– I need to be smart like you but sometimes the weather is too nice to ignore!

    • Coco says:

Well, probably the details are only interesting to lawyers anyway!

It really is hard to hold back, but I’m tired of being in pain, so that’s motivating me.

  2. Wendy says:

That’s so exciting about being able to represent your profession in congress! At least that’s what I gleaned from your vagueblog today ;P Seriously, are we worrying about SEO anymore?

Glad to see that you are behaving and doing your PT! Hoping it pays off soon!

  3. That is fun and different to get to testify in front of congress. Not sure why you are worried about someone reading it? Glad you are holding back a bit n the running and letting your hamstring heal. it is definitely hard to be patient.

    • Coco says:

I just don’t want work colleagues ending up here. They can read all about it on LinkedIn or my firm blog.

You set a good example for being patient. I am trying!

  4. Jessie says:

Way to go Coco! How cool to represent in congress! I’m so impressed. You should be very proud!

  5. Melodie says:

You had a really fun week! And that is a huge honor! I am glad you seem to be making some progress with your hamstring. It is hard though when you have to “ration” out your runs. You also create some great stacks, something I am still learning how to do!

  6. Jenny says:

Wow, that was cool! I went to the link and fast forwarded to your part. It was fun to actually hear you talk and see you in action- and you did great. I’m glad you were able to share that!
For the hamstring- it sounds like it’s definitely moving in the right direction, and the shockwave is helping. I ended up having lots of “bonus” treatments on my foot, so if you feel like you need a couple more I would definitely do that. Good luck with it- I hope it feels good this week.

    • Coco says:

Oh, thanks for checking it out! I did a lot of preparing and practicing, but I also it’s a topic I feel strongly about, so it was genuine. 😉

Yes, the treatments are working! Thanks for the tip on the bonus treatments!

  7. Congrats on your seat on the panel!!! That is a huge honor!!! I hope the hammy continues to improve, but what a bummer that the 3-miler was such a struggle. Gotta say, your Peloton stacks are impressive! It’s been a long time (like most of January, LOL) since I’ve had the time (or energy) to put one together. Hoping I can get back to that routine this week…

    • Coco says:

As with most running things, it’s worse later, so I have to hold back when I think it’s ok. I just need to make a plan and stick to it!

If I didn’t set up stacks the night before, I’d waste most of my workout time looking for classes I was in the mood for. This way I just do it!

  8. Catrina says:

Oh my goodness, Coco!! That’s AMAZING seeing you in action! I had a look at the video as well, and you are so professional and cool in it.
That was so interesting to learn about the patenting system in the US. Was a decision reached to correct the patent-eligibility law? Or will it still take more time?
    In any case: well done!
I find it amazing that you can keep up your fitness routine despite all these important appointments!

    • Coco says:

These senators want to get it done, but it’s never easy — especially in an election year.

The fitness helps me keep my cool. 😉

  9. Congratulations on being selected for the panel. They knew they needed the best of the best on the subject at hand 🙂

I’m glad to hear your shockwave therapy has been helpful. I know it’s gotta be a tough balancing act as you want to heal yet also keep it moving! It’s always hard to pull back.

    • Coco says:

      Aw, thanks.

I wish I’d found my current doctor sooner. I wasted so much time with the ortho I saw last summer, but lesson learned!

  10. Susanne says:

How exciting for you to do that for the congress – I take it then that it isn’t something you commonly do!
It must be so hard to know how much you can run, are you seeing any pattern with it? I hope your hamstring continues to improve!
I still adore the name of the Jacked January challenge! 😀

    • Coco says:

Hah, no, this was the first time!

I am determined to figure out my hamstring — it really is improving, but on it’s own schedule.

  11. Darlene S Cardillo says:

Very exciting… congrats!!! What an honor…

Good news about the hamstring.. hope things continue to improve. I bet it’s hard to be patient… at least it is for me.

You are dedicated to your workouts. You inspire me,

  12. Debbie says:

Congrats and what an honor to be selected for the panel. Glad you could represent on something you feel very passionate about.

I hope your hamstring continues to improve. Fingers crossed!

  13. Jenn says:

What an incredible opportunity and experience! I am so glad you had that chance, and I’m sure your testimony was incredibly valuable.

I’m also glad your hamstring is responding. That must be a relief.
