Christmas Week Wrap Up

Is anyone else a huge fan of The Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping” song? Is everyone? It tells a great story–an 80’s version of a Hallmark movie in 5 minutes–and always makes me pick up my pace when it comes up on my running playlist.

I hope some Christmas magic brought a happy ending
to your hectic holiday season!

Christmas Week Wrap Up

My Christmas week was more stressful than usual with a huge work project hanging over my head. I put in a full day of work on Monday, but left just in time to make it to my neighbor’s annual holiday party. On Christmas Eve I squeezed in a few hours of work from home, and on Christmas Day I decided to make both my pain-in-the-ass apple pie and a second pie so I wouldn’t have time to open my laptop. 😉

So many steps, but it’s always worth it.

This cranberry pie was good, but nothing
can compete with the pain-in-the-ass apple pie.

We had a lovely Christmas with my son doing most of the cooking for our simple Christmas dinner–and then doing most of the dishes! <3 My daughter arrived Thursday morning, and I squeezed in a few more hours of work while she took a nap to make up for her 2:30 am alarm–why do those 6 am flights sound good when you book them? Friday morning I got enough work done to take the rest of the weekend “off”, and was able to relax and enjoy her company.

Weekly Run Down

With my favorite spinning and yoga instructors on vacation, I went to more Orangetheory classes and took Scooby on more runs than usual. He’s not complaining!

Monday: Strength workout

Prisma can make the most mundane workout equipment look fun!

Tuesday: 6.2 Christmas Eve miles
Got out pretty early before baking cranberry coffee cake for Christmas morning noshing. I made two different recipes and can’t decide which is my favorite.

Wednesday: 1 mile walk with Scooby before making pies.

Scooby enjoyed his new Nylabone

Thursday: Orangetheory Fitness
Didn’t I get caught in an Orangetheory tornado last week? This class was supposed to be a 3G (up to 33 people) but only about 15 showed up. No wonder!

OTF Tornado Workout

Friday: 5.0 Scooby Miles
I was excited to try the Injini socks my Sweat Pink Secret Santa gave to me. Is anyone else a huge fan?

Saturday: Orangetheory Fitness
This was a tough 2G strength class, but I loved having a solid floor workout. We did three 7-minute blocks, each with one upper body move and one core move. The single-arm TRX low rows were tough–and it was scary to hold on with just one hand! On the treadmill, the only “recovery” we had during each block was a “base pace” segment, but we did get a 1 minute walking recovery between blocks. Phew!post-OTF selfieSunday: Corepower Yoga
My body was more than ready for a break and hot yoga always feels so good!

My daughter has a 7 am flight home on New Year’s Day, so ours will be quiet and end early!

    Those pies look amazing!

So sorry that you had to deal with a work project this week, but it sounds like everything worked out? I hope you’re able to take some time off for the New Year this upcoming week.

  2. Catrina says:

Coco, you work too much! But I understand that it’s better to get the work done instead of having it bothering your peace of mind during the holiday.
We’re going to see running friends on New Year’s eve, go for a run with them and then have pizza. Their daughter starts a early shift on 1 January at the hospital, so we will leave early. I don’t mind at all! 😊

  3. Sorry about the work project – hope you get some down time this week!

And those pies look so good!!

  4. Wendy says:

I had a love affair with Injinji a few years ago but I drifted away to Swiftwick. I liked the toe socks, I don’t know why I stopped wearing them!

I make a cranberry apple pie–it’s really the best of both worlds. And it’s not a PIA to make.

    Happy New Year!

    • Coco says:

Cranberry-apple sounds great. The cranbery coffee cake I make is more of a favorite than the pie — it really needs ice cream to balance the tartness.

  5. Marcia says:

Oh that PIA pie looks fabulous! I had a brief Injinji stint awhile back and but Balega has my heart. Great week of workouts as usual!

  6. I’m sorry about work, that’s got to be tough, but you seem to have handled it all well.

I have a few pairs of Injiji, but they’re not my fav — I prefer more cushion.

I’m sure latkes could rival the pie. Glad I didn’t have to deal with that. Mr. Judy is a bit upset I won’t even sample them, but there’s a reason I didn’t want to make them in the first place!

Most likely I will be at my mom’s for NYE, and I never stay up til midnight anyway. Weather is a bit dicey that day, but I think/hope it’ll be ok by the time I head down. I’ll also stop off to visit my Dad, which could be very stressful. You just never know.

    • Coco says:

I usually fall asleep watching tv, and then my husband wakes me up just before midnight! Latkes are a process that are worth it too!

      • I usually only fall asleep for a bit (on a normal night). I never stay up to midnight for NYE. I plan to be with my mom, who actually is a night owl — don’t ask me where I get my early bird tendencies from — so I guess she’ll be disappointed but still glad of the company. Not like my Dad would’ve stayed up to midnight, either.

  7. I knew you would make that apple pie again! Hope everyone enjoyed it. Looks like a fun and active week despite your work stress. I need to check out those socks

  8. therightfits says:

Scooby miles! He’s a good little runner.

Ha, pain-in–the-ass pie…but I’m sure it was delicious! Awesome week for you!

  9. Every year I make a PIA sour cream raisin pie for the hubby’s birthday…cooking the raisins, and making the meringue UGH! He’s the ONLY one who will eat it, and it really is a PIA to undertake. But I do it LOL I agree with your comment about the early morning flights…our flight back to Iowa this morning departed Phoenix at 7:30 (which is 6:30 Iowa time), so we were up at 4:00 (3:00 Iowa time, don’t forget) to make the 60ish minute drive “across town” and drop off the rental AND check our bags. No wonder we both slept the entire three hours in flight LOL Best Wishes for a great 2020!

  10. Darlene says:

Oh the pie…looks delish. Apple pie is my favorite dessert. My in-laws have no taste buds. They bought a supermarket pie and thought it was good. NOT!

I bought a pair of toe socks. I was not a fan but I should try them again now that I have foot issues.

happy New Year. Hope 2020 is injury-free.

  11. Chaitali says:

Sounds like a full week! Those pies look amazing 🙂 I always book early morning flights and then hate myself for it when travel day comes around and the alarm goes off. I don’t know why I keep doing it.

  12. jenn says:

One handed rows? Toe socks? What is going on?

I want more info on this pain-in-the-ass apple pie. I love apple pie and I didn’t get any this year. Booooo!

We will have a quiet NYE with family and neighbors, and then we will celebrate Mr PugRunner’s birthday on the first. I hope we can help him have a great day.

  13. Renée says:

    omg those pies!!

you had a very busy week and yet still managed so many great workouts! I think it’s so great to see others making movement a priority even during a stressful time of year!

we are going to friends this evening in Zutphen (about 30 min drive from here) – and then will come home probably around 1am. New Year’s Day means the New Year’s Dive so I will be back up in the morning and on my way to the lake around 11am. Luckily it’s not been so cold this year but I imagine the water is still really cold!

  14. I like early morning flights but hate the wake up call. My mom and I are planning to go to Mexico next year and I am thinking of booking the 2am flights which gets us in Mexico at 6am. At least hopefully we’ll sleep on the plane. Those pies looks yummy! As for New Year’s Eve, the plan was to stay home but my cousin invited us over and I has planned to go. However, I woke up with a cold and will just go to bed early and rest.

    • Coco says:

OK, a 2 am flight really means a late flight — going to the airport at midnight, right? I’ve never heard of such a thing. DCA was dark (everything closed) when my flight got in at 11 pm last week.

  15. Shathiso says:

We had an intense run up to Christmas at work, but luckily I was done by the 19th so I can only imagine the stress of having to squeeze in work over the holiday. But so glad your kids were there, you got some baking done, and you managed your workouts! This NYE was the first that my kids stayed up to midnight. They are 5 and 7. My 5 year old was in tears by the time midnight came, he was so tired! But my 7 year old was so happy to be up with the grown ups! Wishing you and yours a fantastic new year!

    • Coco says:

Oh, your poor baby! I know people who have used the fake countdowns for kids you can stream on Netflix anytime — you just have to make sure that can’t tell time or see other clocks!
