Spooky Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of October, and I’ve got some spooky runfessions to share. Join me at the runfessional over at  Marcia’s Healthy Slice to cleanse our souls soles and get a fresh start for November.

You also may be joining the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.

Spooky Runfessions

I’ve been making progress with physical therapy, but I runfess I was a little spooked when my physical therapist scheduled my next appointment for one month out. She’s been giving me harder and harder exercises every week, and since my hamstring is mostly tolerating them and seems to be improving, she’s comfortable cutting me loose to see how i do on my own. I runfess I will have to keep digging deep to keep up with the exercises. I am committing to doing at least 20 minutes 3 times per week.

Remember when I thought there wouldn’t be a Jingle All The Way 15K this year? I don’t know why I couldn’t find anything about it, but I runfess when I got this sign-up email I wasn’t even tempted to read it. My hamstring is just not ready for a 15K—or even a 5K.

I runfess that with my physical therapy exercises taking over my strength workouts, I’ve sort of flamed out on my Coretober challenge. I’ve taken most of the shorter core classes, but am way behind on the longer ones. I am still doing those darn Copenhagen planks a few days a week, so that has to count for something.

My office complex has gone all out for Halloween, with tons of spooky characters set up for Instagram and Tick Tock shenanigans. I runfess, I think a lot of them are tacky, but I really like this spooky waiter—even if his coffee is for “Steve”.

What runfessions are spooking you?

I’m so sorry your hamstring will not be ready for racing just yet. I suppose it’s encouraging your PT doesn’t want to see you for a month though. Props to you for staying consistent with the work on your own. Not a ton of Halloween decor in my area.

  2. Michelle says:

It’s a good sign that your PT is holding off a bit on your next appointment. I’ll need to follow your example as I dive back into PT next month. I hope your hammy continues to heal!

  3. Jenny says:

Well, I guess your PT trusts that your hamstring is getting better, and that you’ll do the exercises on your own! I think what you’re doing definitely counts as your core work. I had to look up Copenhagen planks again (I did when you originally talked about them, but I think I blocked them out of my mind) and they look HARD. Your legs are going to be bullet proofed after all this.
Even though I don’t dress up for Halloween, I love it when other people do, and I love Halloween decorations. I love the spooky waiter. Anything that makes life more fun is a good thing!

I strongly suspect you’re the dream PT client!

This month, I’ve tried a little motivation trick: I printed out an excel sheet on 1 October. Top row: every day of the month, left column: list of activities that I don’t like doing (eg PT exercises).
Every time I do a dreaded task, I get to make a cross on that day and activity. It’s quite motivating to see the crosses grow as October progresses!

  5. The hamstrings are such stubborn muscles to fix when they get grumpy. Sounds like you’re making great progress! I just put up flyers this morning for a “snack & graze” day for Halloween at the office. A bunch of us used to dress up every year, but the active participants have lost interest in recent years. The waiter is fun!

  6. Deborah Brooks says:

I am glad you are having better luck with your PT experience than I am. I’ve about had it all together. I do like a good IG photo opp 🙂

  7. Jenn says:

I hope that your consistency and dedication helps you get prepped for racing again. It’s awful being down and out.

Yes, we have a ton of decor around. I kind of love it.

  8. Darlene Cardillo says:

I hope your hamstring continues to improve.

Since I still work from home most of the time, no reason to dress up.
