Feeble February Runfessions

As much as I started the year strong in January, things fell off a cliff this month. That’s why I’m sharing some feeble February runfessions for Marcia’s link-up. If your February wasn’t 100% fabulous, this is your chance to cleanse your souls soles and get a fresh start for March.

Feeble February Runfessions

I started the month strong, getting up early to hit the gym at the conference hotel in San Diego. But a few days after I got home, I learned that I brought covid home with me. I recovered in time for my ski vacation, but I never ventured to the gym at that hotel. My Garmin running calendar reveals a few gaps and shows that my longest runs in February have been 6 miles. I runfess I am a bit nervous about my April 10 milers, although I know I still have time to ramp up those long runs.

I runfess that I broke the cardinal rule of gym etiquette and snapped a photo of this man.  What provoked me? You guessed it—he walked in and turned on all the lights. The row of lights directly over the treadmills were particularly annoying, but when I saw what he was doing I realized that was exactly what he wanted. Not only was he reading—he was making notes from time to time.

I tried to use a filter that obscured him as much as possible
while still showing what he was doing.

Speaking of feeble, I runfess I was amused by this sign at the hotel gym in Florida.

I’m used to signs that more strongly encourage the use of wipes.

Did Governor DeSantis forbid hotels from mandating the use of gym wipes too? 😉

What are your February runfessions?

  1. I was a big Clorox wipe user even before covid on air planes and gym equipment. Why not wipe it? I would not call your workout feeble! You have plenty of time to train for CB

  2. Jenny says:

HA!!! Maybe that’s why the etiquette at my gym is so appalling- it’s DeSantis’s fault.
Don’t worry- you still have a full month to ramp up those long runs. You have time!

  3. Jenn says:

OMG, I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s a free country. You can’t tell me to be a decent human and wipe down my gross gym equipment! (sarcasm level: high).

Covid is, in fact, the worst souvenir.

  4. LOL about the wipes hypothesis. I wouldn’t put it past him.

Obviously my runfessions were somewhat feeble too. But I don’t have any 10 mile races anytime soon! I’m just happy to finally be finding some energy again. December & January are just the worst for me — usually February too, but the small break in Winter was most helpful.

I think I have you beat on the worst February ever. I blame it on Florida. Why not?

Good luck with Cherry Blossom. I think you’ll do fine.

  6. I agree with Deborah, you still have time to ramp up the mileage for Cherry Blossom. My longest run has been at the 6-mile mark as well (I have a 10K next weekend), but I plan to increase my weekend runs accordingly throughout March. So, some people use the hotel gym as their reading nook, hmmm?

  7. Marcia says:

You have time to ramp up for CB! No worries! I think the only reason I used the hotel gym when we were in Atlanta was because it was empty. Those tiny gyms packed with people are a petri dish for sure.

  8. Wendy says:

I’m feeling your mileage worry because I haven’t gotten a good trail run in for quite a while and my April 15 mile race is a doozy. I need some dirt and vert! Hoping you and I will both make up for it in March.

Seriously, only a woke person would use the wipes. :p

  9. Michelle says:

    I love your wipes theory!

I think you’ve got time to ramp up for CB. I hope March is good to you!

  10. Catrina says:

That turn-the-lights-on guy! Nice job with the photo, though!

I will never understand people who try to multitask in a gym. He’s neither getting the most out of his reading nor out of his workout. Such a waste of time!

  11. Debbie says:

You’ve still got time to get ready for the 10-miler. With the other workouts you do your overall fitness level has got to be good.
