Making Progress On The Road To Recovery

During week 2 of 2024 I continued to pursue my goal of rehabbing my hamstring. It’s a rolling course, but I feel like I am making progress on the road to recovery.

Hopefully it’s not just a placebo effect or wishful thinking!

Making Progress On The Road To Recovery

Right now my progress towards recovery is in the hands of my new orthopedist. I found her by searching for someone in a large practice I’ve used before who does shockwave therapy. I felt lucky to get an appointment right away and to be able to start treatments in January. I feel even luckier knowing that she is one of the many healthcare professionals who support the Washington Commanders football team.

Admittedly, they’ve been a hard team to root for, between the (mis)conduct of the previous owner and their horrible record this season, but still, knowing my doctor cares for professional athletes seems like a good indication that I’m in good hands.

Speaking of shockwave therapy, I had my second treatment this week and am definitely noticing the difference. 🤞

Weekly Wrap

I am still trying to be cautious, but it’s hard. I went from debating taking a week off from all run + walking on Friday to taking Scooby out for a run on Saturday because I felt so good Friday evening. 😬 What can I say? 🤷‍♀️ Thank goodness for the Breakthrough Crew’s Jacked January Challenge that keeps me focused on upper body strength workouts.

I crossed the Peloton 200 week streak mark on Monday. It’s a random milestone relative to the calenar, but it’s still a nice round number. Even though I usually do something in the Peloton app every day, you don’t have to workout daily to keep up a weekly streak.

Sunday: I didn’t get up early enough to workout before church, but with nothing else on my schedule I had time for a long workout when I got home. I can’t remember the last time I did a 45 min ride, but I knew Hannah’s Boxing Day Ride would be a good one.

Monday: I’ve been re-taking my favorite Peloton core classes and this one with Chase was a good one with lots of planks. I took Logan’s run as a walk+run with 2:1 intervals.

Tuesday: Tuesday I opted for another ride with Hannah Frankson. She really is my favorite!

Wednesday: Olivia’s doesn’t do many strength classes these days, but I love some of her older classes. This one is mostly PT-style exercises which I like to do before getting on the tread.

Thursday: I decided to mix things up with a Bike Bootcamp class. This one was programmed as bike-core-bike with a really long core block in the middle.

Friday: Unlike last week, I didn’t take a day off from riding/running the day after my treatment, because I really felt good. I did choose a shorter cycling class and ignored Kendall’s harder call-outs. 😉

Saturday: Friday evening my hamstring felt amazing—it didn’t feel at all! Between that and temperatures in the upper 40s, I couldn’t resist taking Scooby out. It wasn’t an ache-free run, but it definitely felt better/less.  This time I chose the correct workout on my Garmin and stuck closely to my run/walk intervals.

We’re both pretty happy after 4.8 miles

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

How do you find a new doctor/specialist?

This is such wonderful news, Coco, about your hamstring finally getting better!! I get it that it’s hard to take it easy when it feels good but at least you’re still making progress! Those upper body workouts will do you a lot of good, too.

This is all great news! And Scooby looks so happy!

My ankle surgeon worked with some professional athletes, too, and it was a comfort. I feel like they understand how important returning from injury can be.

Love that the Commanders had a female doctor on their staff! My knee surgeon was one of the orthopedists for the Knicks and after years of non answers I was so glad to be in good hands.
    Congrats on 200!
