Balancing A Hard Week With Fun Peloton Classes

The tagline of this blog is balancing life with fitness and faith, and this week I balanced a hard week with fun Peloton classes.

I also took Scooby out for a run my hamstring will make me regret,
but it was fun in the moment.

A Hard Week

Work is crazy this time of year, and made crazier this week by a quick trip to Chicago. Even when things go smoothly—which they did this time—I find it stressful. I hate long rides in cabs/Ubers, and always feel blah by the time I get home. Plus, going away always throws off my internal calendar. When I went into the office on Thursday, in my head it was Tuesday. Topping that with clients in a panic over projects they want done before the holidays, and year-end management meetings, and work was stressful.

I also had a rough week with an annoying health issue. I have mild symptoms of thyroid eye disease (I have extremely dry eyes) and ended up having to go to the eye doctor twice. It’s really hard when your work is all reading and writing and you just want to close your eyes. Hopefully the new prescription eye drops will help, but I find using eye drops annoying too. 😉

My hamstring also was hard to deal with this week—it hurts when I sit too long, and I did a lot of sitting on the plane and in hours long meetings. 😩 Now I’ve got two MRIs scheduled—hopefully they will result in a new treatment plan.

Fun Peloton Classes

Now you understand why I opted for fun Peloton classes!

First, I did all the Move As One classes, which reminded me of the All For One classes they did in 2020. A bunch of the NYC instructors were in London, and they filmed classes together with the UK instructors. I did the Walk + Run on Monday before heading to the airport, and did the Strength and Ride at the hotel gym before my 7:30 am meeting. The high energy and light banter put me in a good mood.

I knew my hotel had Peloton bikes, so I even packed my cycling shoes.

The other fun rides I did were Camilla’s Hip Hop ride and Cliff’s Black History Month Ride (which is celebrated in October in the UK). Cliff is always so positive, even when talking about the struggles he has faced/faces due to his melanin levels (as he puts it).

I also had fun with the Breakthrough Crew Holiday Hustle challenge. We are hustling to collect as many gifts as we can. 🎄

The most fun I had this week was running with Scooby. It was in the upper 30s and just felt great—except my hamstring, which did feel great. I made Scooby pose with inflatables for the RunChat Scavenger Hunt.

I’m in for another hard week, including a work meeting and late dinner today (Sunday), an 8-hour meeting starting at 8 am tomorrow, and my first MRI Friday evening. I may dip into the Peloton holiday classes to balance that grueling work schedule with some festive fun.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

How do you balance year-end craziness?

That’s exactly how I’m feeling as well: out of balance. Sorry about the eye issues and the ongoing hamstring saga. Hope the MRI give you some good news. At least it was mild here when you visited?
Scooby is such a good sport!

  2. Geez, everyone is having a hard week! Work on Sunday is just wrong.

I really hope you get some better answers from the MRIs. I’m sure Scooby is missing his runs (and of course I know you are).

    This too SHALL pass!

  3. All of the fun Peloton classes of late sure do offer a nice escape and stress relief. Hope your week ahead is a little less stressful. Fingers crossed those MRIs give you some answers

  4. Debbie says:

I’m so sorry to hear you had a rough week between work stress and health issues. I hope you find relief with the eye drops and news at the MRI that will help point you in a direction that will lead to resolving the hamstring pain.

  5. UGH on the continued hammy stuff. My right hamstring (just over a year ago, before I got going with PT) was feeling much like you describe. Riding in the car for longer than 20 minutes was torture. I hope you get some answers and things start improving. I did the Move As One walk/run on the elliptical, and am planning to cue-up the ride in a little while.

I’m sorry things are so hectic. I usually thrive in a busy environment, but we are coming back from illness, so things are a little stressful. That being said, I sat down and busted out a week of blog posts, so I’m having a burst of motivation.

Hi, Scooby! He’s such a good boy!

    Take care of that hamstring!

  7. Wendy says:

I’m feeling stressed too–this is such a hectic time of year! We’re so busy at work with sick kids and newborns, besides our usual stuff. I’ve had a student all fall and she finished up on Friday. As great as she was, it was just one more thing! I hope your hamstring calms down. Just enjoy the season as much as you can! Will you see your kids?

  8. Jenny says:

Wow, that does sound hard. I mean just the workload sounds hard, without having to deal with an eye issue AND the hamstring thing, STILL. The festive Peloton classes must be helping because you still sound pretty upbeat! I hope the MRI on Friday gives you some useful information. I know people are probably throwing suggestions at you left and right, but what about PRP injections? I’ve heard it can really help that high hamstring tendinopathy.
Anyway… hang in there. And maybe some festive Starbucks drinks would brighten up your week : )

  9. Susanne says:

An 8 hour meeting? Yikes! I feel for you.
I’m sorry to hear abour your eye issue. Eye drops are hard to take (I take drops for dry eyes sometimes and usually spill half of it on my cheek) but I hope they help. I also hope you get some new hope about the hamstring after that MRI (or two).

  10. Michelle says:

I’m on the work stress bandwagon with you 🙁 I’m sorry about your eye issue too. I hope your MRI is the start of a recovery plan for your angry hammy.

  11. Catrina says:

Oh my goodness, Coco, I’m sorry. That’s a lot!
Sitting in a meeting that lasts for more than an hour drives me nuts. I can’t imagine doing that for 8 hours and with an angry hamstring!
Drink a lot of water – then you have an excuse to get up and leave the room every 30 minutes!
Here’s to a successful week! All the best with the MRI!

  12. All of that work stuff can really through a wrench in your schedule! I never travel for work anymore, but the few times I did it was tiring, so I get it.
Wow, you have 2 MRI’s scheduled? Something has to come of that!
I hope your week is a bit less stressful now.
