Wrapping Up Spring Training

This week I wrapped up my spring training—such as it was—ahead of today’s Parkway Classic 10 mile race. It’s only my second race this spring, but for the first time in ages I (mostly) followed a training plan.

Looking ahead for next week.

Wrapping Up Spring Training

I continued trying to take my own advice and kept my running and lower body workouts easy. I did do a double workout Sunday, heading out for a bike ride a few hours after taking Scooby for a run, and got sucked into chasing a PR on a Peloton ride, but otherwise I stuck to my “easy” plan.

Sunday: Core + 4.75 Scooby Miles + 21.9 Cycling Miles
It was a gorgeous spring morning—perfect weather for a run or a ride, so I did both!

Monday:  Core + 30 min LB Strength
After Sunday’s double cardio day, I stuck with strength on Monday, and did that hard “push” workout that still pushes me to my limits.

Tuesday: Corepower Yoga

Wednesday: 5.75 Scooby Miles
It was brisk enough for long sleeves but warm enough for shorts—really my favorite running weather.

In my head the crazy colors of my top and shirt ”matched”

Thursday: Core + 20 min UB Strength + 35 min Peloton Ride
I’m getting into a groove with my weekly workout at my office gym. I do a strength workout before anyone else arrives and then hop on one of the Peloton bikes. I love doing a Lanebreak ride for a cooldown.

The Peloton metrics track your output relative to your output of your most recent PR ride, and when I saw I was on track to (barely) set a new PR, I kept chasing after it and earned that gold star.
Friday: Core + Barre + 4.0 Scooby Miles
Last run before my race! My ITB was a bit cranky and flared up after Scooby nearly tripped me up lunging for a particularly enticing patch of grass, but it settled down after a short walking break.

Foreshadowing next week’s business trip 😉

Saturday: 30 min FB Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride + 10 min ALW
I made sure Jess’s strength workout didn’t have any plyometric moves before putting it in my stack. It had lunges and some swing cleans, but nothing that would trash my legs. Sam’s ride wasn’t a “recovery” ride, but I modified his cuing to keep it easy, and loved the blues playlist.

Heading into my race, I am still feeling tightness in my left ITB, even when I’m just walking Scooby, although with walking it usually shakes out. I plan to spend some quality time with the Theragun today and briefly on race morning. I’ve run the course with ITB issues before, so I will be watching to see how far I make it without it getting angry.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

How do you switch gears after your race?

Good luck. Hope the training plan helped and you did well in the race. Ten milers are my favorite.

Also hope the weather and ITB cooperated.

My Achilles seems achy. Always something.

I hope your IT band cooperated during today’s GW Parkway race. You have gorgeous weather for it! It was always my husband’s favorite race and when he had to quit running, I only ran it one more time.

  4. Jenny says:

I hope your race went well! Hopefully your ITB did the same thing my foot did- just gave you a good scare before the race, but then held up beautifully on race day.
I’ll be looking forward to the race recap. I’m guessing that you crushed it- your training was super consistent.

Good luck with the race – hope it all went well! Hopefully you felt fine during the race with your ITB. Btw I love all of Scooby’s pics. He is so photogenic and looks like he knows how to stand with his photo being taken 🙂

  8. Great job taking things somewhat easy in prepping for race day. I know how tough that is! I need to revisit JJ’s program. I liked the workouts (even that tough “push” day).

  9. Catrina says:

I love that combo too: long sleeves and shorts. It feels so comfy!
Looking forward to the race recap!
I bet you’re looking forward to some well-deserved rest this week.

that’s great you have a peloton bike at work!

hopefully everything went ok with your ITB at the race. ITB issue are no joke.

  12. Oh Scooby. Even though Bandit’s little, sometimes he does things like stop right in front of you so you still have to be alert!

I know the race wasn’t quite what you wanted, but sounds like you are doing ok?

  13. Shathiso says:

I really hope your ITB held up for the race – can’t wait to read the review. Love how consistent you’ve been with your workouts and Scooby of course, is a champ!

  14. Jenn says:

Hope your ITB held on! That’s a scary one to injure and I hope it cooperated!

    Hi, sweet Scooby!
