Sliding Into September At The Ultimate Coffee Date

Well, here we are sliding into September already! At least the long weekend softens the blow of the end of summer—although I think we all will be celebrating the end of our heat waves. Deborah and I are happy to be hosting this monthly Ultimate Coffee Date link-up where we share what’s been going on our lives. Pour yourself a cup, pull up a chair, and fill us in!

Sliding Into The September Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would share that even though my kids are grown and my school days are long over, I still think of September as the start of something new. Work does tend to ramp up as clients are back from their vacations and I travel for fall conferences, but I think it’s a more psychological/cultural phenomenon. Do you feel the same way?

Scenes from last weekend.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that as much as I love my Starbucks, I got by at the beach with coffee from our hotel room Keurig—and it wasn’t even Starbucks K-cups. I did bring my own half-and-half, though. That’s where I draw the line. 😉 Rehoboth does have one Starbucks, but it’s pretty far from the boardwalk so I’ve never been.

The beach at 4 pm is much emptier than the beach at 2 pm.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I finally got to use my Peloton beach towel. I can’t even remember if I got it in 2020 or 2021, but I do remember it was on sale for $20, which is a bargain for a full-size plush towel these days.

If we were having coffee, I would probably bring you some cherry tomatoes from my Aerogarden. I think they are better suited for a bigger model because they are taller than the light, but they are doing well!

If we were having coffee, I would share some of my recent reads—and by recent I mean since spring. I don’t get through as many books as Wendy or Carianne.

Rebel With A Clause grew on me, but I think I’d enjoy watching the “documentary” better. It did inspire me to use some en-dashes in a work document. 😉

The Brighter The Light would be a good beach read—and not just because it takes place at a beach. It alternates storylines between a grandmother (as a child) and granddaughter (as an adult), as the granddaughter learns more about her grandmother, her family, and herself.

Lessons in Chemistry was cute. I won’t reveal any spoilers, but if you read it you will know that one of the early plot twists hit especially close to home!

I’m still reading Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, but am enjoying it so far.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have any new goals for the fall?

  1. Gotta love those cherry tomatoes! Just yesterday, I discovered a cherry tomato plant buried under another Roma plant. My garden looks like something from Jumanji…not a bad thing, but a clustered ness! Nice Pelo towel!

  2. Farrah says:

I also do still feel like September is the start of new things as well. I guess school’s been a little too ingrained into me, hehehe.

    I love cherry tomatoes! :]

You’ve definitely read more than me so far! I’m trying to do more though and have been listening to more audiobooks lately!

  3. Well, since the Jewish New Year does actually fall (usually) in September . . . it’s nice to have two new years. 🙂

I’d take some of your cherry tomatoes! They’re the best!

Yes, I am very hopeful that this past weekend was the last of the heat waves!

  4. Marcia says:

September to me is a loud reminder of the passage of time. The end of another summer and a new school year will do that I guess. Costco has the Christmas stuff out and I don’t even bat an eye anymore. Glad you’re enjoying that beach time! So nice! I only have a couple of tomato plants this year and the output hasn’t been great. They are delicious when I get them though!

  5. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

Yes I agree. I get saw when school starts because it means dark morning and darker early evenings.

Ha ha. I bring Starbucks kcups when I travel and my own creamer.

The deer ate my tomato plants. I have a nice friend who gives her the ones she grew. Delish.

  6. Michelle says:

I agree about September – I think I will always think of it as the start of something new even after my boys are finished with school.

I’m a cherry tomato fan but I’ve had no luck growing them in my garden – darn chipmunks get to them lol.

  7. Jenny says:

Ooh, I loved Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Lessons in Chemistry was a little TOO cute for me, but I know I’m in the minority here- everyone else seems to love it.
Yes, I’ll always feel like September is the beginning of the year. Although school starts so early here, my daughter has already been in school for three weeks. These school schedules are messing with my mind.

  8. you have had way better than I have w the aerogarden. I kill all of my plants even ones in there that are supposed to be maintenance free lol. Glad you enjoyed your beach trip. Can’t wait to see you this weekend

  9. I agree about fall seeming like a new start – even though I’m not starting anything! Are you in Chicago for any business meetings?

I want to check out Lessons in Chemistry. I’m excited to read Carrie Soto is Back (Taylor Jenkins Reid’s new book) and I’m reading Daisy Darker which is very good so far. I’ve read/listened to a ton of books this year already.

  10. Wendy says:

I’m still waiting for Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow to come in from my library holds! Glad to hear you like it.

I always feel like September is the beginning of the year and that I should have summers off, lol

  11. Catrina says:

When we travel, I bring my black tea, my vanilla soy milk and my milk frother. I love to have a nice, thick milk foam on my tea.
However, it can potentially turn into a serious crisis situation when I realize that the hotel room doesn’t have a kettle!

  12. Jenn says:

I wish I had the gardening skills. I would love fresh tomatoes.

I like Starbucks, but I do prefer local coffee shops, usually, and now even more, the premade iced coffee I have. Sorry the k-cups weren’t the good stuff. 🙁

  13. Shathiso says:

Haha – I was just telling Kim (over coffee) that we have a country-wide tomato shortage here so if you brought some cherry tomatoes for our coffee date, I’d be most grateful! LOL.
