Making The Best Of Things

I’m not sure what happened, but all the angst and stress I was battling for the past few weeks disappeared this week. The reality of what was stressing me out didn’t change; I just realized I would deal with it, and got on with making the best of things.

Accidental or intentional heart made by the workers repaving our street?

Making The Best Of Things

I generally am a glass-half-full person, but I also need to vent to get frustrations out of my system. Thank goodness I have friends and colleagues willing to hear me out. When I noticed this fresh asphalt heart on our street, I took it as a sign to return my attention to all the good things and stop letting the frustrating things drag me down.

Optimism wasn’t enough to save this tree, which is just outside my neighborhood. It’s an unusual specimen in my collection of fallen trees because it’s a pine tree that fell over, rather than a Bradford pear that lost a limb. The storms that took it down brought us amazing weather—another reason to make the best of things.

Weekly Run Down

I’m 5K minutes behind Kim, but pleased to earn my 15K minute Peloton badge this week. I think I can reach 20K minutes before the end of the year, but it could be close.

Monday: FB Strength +25 min Ride + 10 min ALW
I started the week with a long workout, including a solid strength class with Jess Sims and two relatively low-key Peloton rides.

I really love Jess’s 45 min strength classes!

Tuesday: 10 min Core + 10 min LB + 5.75 Tread miles + 10 min ALW
I loaded up on endorphins ahead of a stressful day at work. The Two For One run was fun, but I needed more endorphins so I added a 20 min HIIT run.

Wednesday: 10 min Core + 30 min LB + 30 min Ride + 10 min ALW
It’s been a while since I rode with Christine, and her recent HIIT ride had a fun playlist. I tacked on a 10 min low impact ride to round up my mileage.

Thursday: 10 min Core + 10 min LB + 3.5 mi Tread Miles  + 10 min ALW
I was hoping the weather would be cool enough to run with Scooby, but it was still in the mid 70s at 5:30 am, so I took him for a walk and hopped on my treadmill for a run.

Friday: 10 min Core + 4.67 Scooby Miles + 20 min UB
We finally got the promised cool front, but some showers were lingering, so it wasn’t exactly a low humidity run. It never really rained, but raindrops were falling on my head.

Saturday: 10 min Core + 10 min Barre + 10 min ALW + 31.75 mile Ride
Waking up to low 60s on August 13 is nothing but AMAZING! It would have been a great morning for a run, but we had made plans to do the Conte’s Old Town ride, and so enjoyed fantastic weather on our bikes instead.

Sunday: 5 min Core +15 min Barre + 6.0 Scooby Miles
It didn’t take much effort to make the best of this run: cool weather, a healthy body—what more could a runner ask for? I think it’s been ages since I’ve run this far. I know it’s been ages since I felt this good running this far. 🙂

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

I hope you are able to make the best of things this week!

How great you’ve been able to put things in perspective and release the stress. I’ve been thinking long and hard about my own career and life is just too short to sweat the small stuff. Glad you’ve gotten some great weather finally!

  2. I’m glad you are able to get rid of some stress with your workouts and your running is feeling good again! The break from the humidity has been wonderful around here, and it sounds like it’s well timed for you. That heart in the street looks like it was a sign!

this weekend was a gift weather wise! I also have not felt this good running in a while I hope it lasts for all of us

  4. The weather this weekend has been delightful! I hope you had fun on your Conte’s ride. Did Barb lead?

  5. The stress can definitely be hard to shake off, and send us in a downward spiral — so glad the heart turned things around for you! And the weather has definitely been a Godsend as well. Sounds like you ended on a high note this week! Nice!

Having friends and colleagues who are willing hear you out are a true blessing!
I’m also a venting type of person and this was a great stress release.

Yay for 6 miles! It seems that your Achilles is holding up really well these days.

It sounds like you and I are on the same page with things! Yep, work reminded me last week how hard it is, but the new attitude helped a lot. Can I maintain it? Fingers crossed. And good runs definitely help with that. Glad you had one!

  9. I’m really glad you’re able to let the stress go.

And yay for some decent weather and good runs!

  10. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Great job on shifting your focus, Coco 😉 It’s tough to let the stress go, but so rewarding when there are better things to occupy your thoughts. I’m glad you got a cool-down in the weather…that had to be a big help!

You know, I have to say that’s the good thing about injuries. It REALLY makes you appreciate running again. With all the foot issues behind you and beautiful weather, I’m sure today’s run felt extra-special. I’m glad you’re feeling better! You had a great week of workouts.

  12. Darlene says:

Cool weather and healthy body. Just perfect.

Glad to hear all your injuries have healed. Knock on wood.

And congrats on catching up,to our peleton queen.

Although you’re still dealing with a less than ideal situation, I think it’s great that you were able to make the decision to be “glass half full”. In these crazy times, we have to try to reduce stress where we can, although that can be hard sometimes.

Awesome job reaching 15K minutes for Peloton! I think you will be able to hit 20K before the end of the year., especially with all of the strength and running classes that you do every week.
