Burning Off The Stress

You’d think after skipping strength workouts to take my 1500th Peloton strength class live with Jess Sims last Friday I would have been eager to get back to my strength stacks this week. Instead, I found myself opting for cardio classes in an effort to burn off work stress.

Burning Off The Stress

I know work stress is a first world problem, but I struggle to keep things in perspective. Sometimes I think I shouldn’t care about a case more than my client does; other times I wonder if it’s my job to care more. This week’s stress came from a different direction, as I was faced with difficult personnel decisions. I tried to put them out of my mind at the end of the day, but they leaked into my brain even as I slept. About the only time I wasn’t debating which course of action was the right one or second-guessing every decision was when I was working out. Even then, I flinched when an instructor cheerfully said “Let go of whatever is weighing you down.” Instead of feeling encouraged, I was just reminded of what I was trying to escape.

Weekly Run Down

Thank goodness I was able to burn off the stress with running! The warm and humid weather made it easy to keep my runs short, and even sent me to my treadmill a few times. I think my right foot is just about 100% better, as even the slightly sprained feeling on the top of my foot has dissipated. 😃

Monday: 5 min Core + 55 min Peloton Ride + ALW
I had heard this Matt Wilpers hill ride was a tough one, simulating a climb that’s been on the Tour De France route. Since we watched the TDF over the weekend, I was inspired to give it a try. It certainly was tough, but I got through it.

Tuesday: 5 min core + 20 mn Strength + 4.5 Tread Miles
I haven’t been on my tread in a while, and decided to pair Jess Sims and Andy Spear for a fun combo.

The Prisma filter makes my  sweat sparkle!

Wednesday: 10 min Barre + 3.25 Scooby Miles + 30 min FB Strength
I took one of Hannah C’s new barre classes as a pre-run warm-up, and then took Scooby about for a short run. I still had time for a strength workout, so I opted for 30 min with Ben.

Thursday: 10 min Core + 30 min Peloton Ride + ALW
I had saved the Lizzo ride for Thursday, and it helped lift my mood. After doing back-to-back Lizzo classes, I was thinking about doing a hair toss at bad bitch o’clock the rest of the day. 😉

Friday: 5 min Core + 10 min Barre + 3.35 Tread Miles
I don’t like Ally’s barre classes as much as Hannah’s (she often goes too fast for me) but this one was pretty good. I’ve been missing Chase and fearing a purge, so I did one of his old tread classes.

Saturday: 3.0 Scooby Miles + 60 min Bootcamp
It wasn’t too humid when I took Scooby out, so I decided to run a 2 mile loop. He was doing fine, so I added a lap around the neighborhood school to make it an even 3 miles. Then I headed to my basement for an old Saturday 60 Bootcamp with Jess Sims. It had a lot of core moves, so I’m glad I didn’t start with a separate core class.

Sunday: 15 min Barre + 4.4 Scooby Miles
It actually felt nice when I headed out with Scooby—I guess the humidity was still low and there was a bit of a breeze. Was going to follow-up with a strength workout, but my jet-lagged son was already up when we got back, so I skipped straight to coffee. 😉

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Yes, there’s nothing like cardio for burning off the stress- especially running. So glad you can run again! Sorry about the work stress- that’s tough. But, running- hooray.

I think sometimes we don’t realize how much work stress can affect every other aspect of our lives, but I’m glad that you found ways to burn off the work stress this week.
On a more positive note, happy to see you out running this week!

    I’ll try commenting again…
There’s nothing wrong with having a high-cardio week once in awhile, especially when you are very disciplined about keeping your workouts balanced with strength. I’m glad your foot is feeling much better…I hope that continues 😉

  5. Apparently I wasn’t the only who had trouble commenting! So sorry for the personal stress, glad cardio helps you with it.

  6. Darlene says:

I commented twice. Hope third time is a charm.

Glad to hear you can run… no Pain?

And yes… running does relieve stress. And this week was a doozie.

I’m so sorry about your work stress, Coco! Agonizing over personnel decisions can cause a lot of mental stress. I’m sure you will make the best decision possible.

So good that you can run it off injury-free! I do that too – it really helps.

Is your son (and wife) back from their honeymoon?

  8. Marcia says:

My mind races at night with work-related things as well. It’s not fun. I hope this week is easier for both of us!

  9. Glad you had your workouts to help sort through things. I feel like sometimes those tough decisions have a way of making themselves more clear when I run! Hope that foot stays healthy!!

  10. Wendy says:

I’m struggling a lot with work stress these days. I probably need to find something else. But wow, so close to retirement. It’s so hard.
