Covid Vaccinated Coffee Date

Welcome to the May 2021 edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date. I’m still staying safer at home, but with my second Pfizer covid vaccine dose doing its thing with my immune system, I am ready to make plans for some in-person coffee dates and lunches—outside—soon.  No matter your vaccine status, Deborah and I are happy to host you at our virtual coffee date. We just ask that you visit other blogs in the link up.

Covid Vaccinated Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I had almost no reaction after my second Pfizer dose. My arm was a bit tender to the touch, but not even sore with normal movement. I did do a 10 minute “arms and light weights” Peloton class right when I got home–maybe that helped?

Speaking of Peloton, if we were having coffee I could talk your ear off with all the recent Peloton drama. There’s always complaints when they delete old classes, but a lot of app users were upset last week when they removed all of the scenic rides and scenic runs to be replaced by new scenic classes that will only be available on Peloton equipment. Then there were the users who got locked out of the training programs they were in the middle of when Peloton revamped them to have more structure and require completion of one week’s classes before the next week’s are unlocked–without grandfathering in those already part way through.

Peloton programs

All that pales in comparison to the consternation and confusion in the wake of the voluntary recall of all Peloton treadmills, after Peloton finally caved to the CPSC. Although the recall is voluntary, it sounds like Peloton canceled all treadmill orders that hadn’t been delivered yet and rumors have been flying over whether they will keep providing treadmill content.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you my AeroGarden has gotten out of control. I plan to put the mint and Thai basil in pots this weekend and see how long I can keep the basil growing. Then I have to decide if I want to try growing lettuce or cherry tomatoes next.

You can’t even see the basil behind the overgrown Thai basil!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I didn’t do any puzzles in April, but I have a few new ones to choose from when I’m in the mood again.

Which would you do next?

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have any plans for Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is a lot different for me now that my children are living in different states. At least they usually remember to call me, and the heartfelt cards they send are as meaningful as ever. Hopefully I will get to see my mother.ultimate coffee date badge

  1. Farrah says:

Yay! I’m glad you were able to get your second shot!

That’s awesome that you have so much Thai basil! I want to grow my own herbs but haven’t gotten around to it — will definitely have to get on that soon though!

I vote for the National Parks puzzle! :]

  2. Lisa says:

The Peloton stuff sounds crazy! I didn’t know there was a voluntary recall on treadmills. Glad you didn’t have much reaction to the vaccine. Happy Mother’s Day!

    • Coco says:

They just announced it this week. I guess Google knows I’m a Pelo-fan so I saw the news everywhere. 😉

  3. Wendy says:

I think I’m going to get one of those Aerogardens next winter–I love basil and it would be great to grow it inside!

I have to admit that I am not sad I didn’t get into the Peloton scene. It’s too bad tho, about the treadmill. I don’t think they should get rid of the content. So many people have benefitted from it!

    • Coco says:

Oh, Peloton has been so great for me, but they’ve had their issues with the supply chain and were just getting over that, so maybe that made them more reluctant to do the recall than they should have been.

  4. I’m so glad to hear you didn’t have any side effects from your 2nd dose!

I had heard about all the Pelo drama around the programs – sounds like they should have given more consideration to those currently using the programs. I did not hear that they are considering canceling the treadmill content – that would be a shame.

That AeroGarden is out of control 😉 You’ve really got me thinking I should consider one for next winter. It’s so nice to have fresh herbs right at your fingertips!

    • Coco says:

I don’t think they are going to drop the tread content, but when they pulled the tread pages from their website, they also took down the profiles for the non-bike instructors like Jess Sims and Becs Gentry, which got the rumors flying!

      The Aersogarden really works!

  5. Glad you didn’t have much of a reaction! I had Moderna, which tends to have more side effects, and I made sure to move my arms right away too. Still had a sore arm, although oddly not as sore as the first shot. It’s all so weird.

I had no idea about the possibility of Peloton removing treadmill runs. I would have to think hard if they did that. As much as I enjoy Peloton — occasionally — that’s mostly what I use it for.

I will actually be getting together with my family for Mother’s Day. We’re still masking, because we’ll be inside, and even though the majority are vaccinated, not everyone is. We’re not “planning” to stay long, as we’ll still have a drive ahead of us. Never easy to leave when we need to though when it’s family.

    • Coco says:

I don’t think they are stopping tread content, especially since the recall is voluntary. They have had new classes since the recall was announced.

Enjoy your visit! That’s how we feel visiting our son. It’s a 2 hour drive, so we can’t stay too long for Scooby’s sake, but we stay a while. 🙂

      • Bandit will be boarded. If it was just Mother’s Day we’d take him, but I don’t think the cemetery is the place for him — or that he’d be allowed there.

One reason I generally go to visit my mom alone is that so far Bandit is no longer allowed inside. It was easier when we could take him — or when I could stay overnight. They are slowly opening up & 97% of residents are vaccinated. They didn’t have to anywhere for it either!

  6. We can chat about Peloton in person when I see you! nLooking forward to that. You are a few weeks ahead of my on the aerogarden. My dill is out of control but the rest not yet. My hubs just started the scenic rides and really likes them so far.

  7. Darlene says:

    Yay for vaccines!!

I stopped my peleton membership but I do miss Matty and the bike mojo. Maybe next winter I’ll join again. For now, I’m trying to stay outdoors.

I have never tried an Aero Garden…. nice idea.

Mother’s Day is my birthday but my MIL is almost 96 so I think she will take priority.

  8. Happy Mother’s Day! The kids are all coming over Sunday at noon, but it’s supposed to be chilly and rain all afternoon so that’s a bummer.

I had a sore arm after my first Pfizer vaccination and a minimally sore arm after my second and that was it. I’m so happy to have them behind me!

Your indoor garden is doing great! I planted spearmint in a garden in our back yard and I’m thinking about transplanting basil and cilantro there, but not sure if the deer will eat them. It’s worth a try, though.

    • Coco says:

It sounds like we had a similar non-reaction to Pfizer. Yay!

You have a much greener thumb than I do, I bet your herbs will do great.

  9. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

Thanks for hosting coffee, I was a week early! I got my 2nd Pfizer shot last week and also didn’t have any effects, so that’s great to hear! I know we’re doing brunch on Sunday but I still don’t know what else to do this Mother’s Day weekend! I hope you get to see your mom 🙂

  10. Yay for vaccines and real live coffee and other dates! I’m going to my first inside dinner this weekend for a birthday celebration. I’m a bit nervous but we’re all fully vaccinated and my friends have been to this restaurant before. I’m also running a 10 mile race. It’s hilly. I’m a little scared to see my finish time – LOL.

That Peloton stuff is crazy. Change is hard especially if it’s unexpected or unsolicited!

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you get to see your mom!

    • Coco says:

Oh, wow, I’m not sure I’m ready to eat inside yet. Well, I know I’m not ready, but I’m not sure I’ll be ready in two weeks …. So hard to get used to again

  11. Your mini garden looks enticing! Now I want one! I have a west-facing bay window in our kitchen area, but lots of space in my sunroom, which has south & west windows (also north windows, but they don’t count LOL). The Peloton drama is crazy….

    • Coco says:

The AeroGarden provides its own light so you can put it anywhere!

Pelo-drama is amusing from the sidelines. I even refrain from telling people to get over it. 😉

  12. jenny says:

Wow, you got your second shot already! The Pfizer timeline is quicker than Moderna- I felt like I waited forever between shots #1 and #2. Crazy that you felt fine and I felt like absolute crap after my second shot! I would love to know what’s going on with that. Oh well- we’re both vaccinated and that’s what matters.
Love your AeroGarden. Looks like there may be some pesto in your future!

    • Coco says:

The different reactions are interesting My daughter had Pfizer and did have a fever the day after. I even cleared my work schedule, but ended up working anyway.

  13. Laurie says:

Yay for the vaccines! I am fully vaccinated as of today (2 weeks after my 2nd shot). I had some arm soreness after my 2nd shot, then nothing. For 36 hours. Then I had some profound tiredness and a headache. After that, I felt fine. Definitely worth the peace of mind being fully vaccinated brings!

  14. runswithpugs says:

Wow! Who knew there would be so much drama? Crazy!

I’m glad you didn’t have much of a reaction to the shot. I didn’t either.

Mother’s Day is my birthday. I want to go for a walk, head over to a beachside donut shop, and then go to an art museum and garden.

  15. I had no idea about the Peloton drama. Well, I did hear about the treadmills. I was waiting till I had more room (new house) so I could buy one. I guess now it will be never?

  16. Catrina says:

Your mum will be so happy to see you, Coco!

Congrats on the vaccine – that’s so good to hear.

Just this morning I saw a graph comparing the new confirmed Corona cases in the US with India between January – May. It’s frightening to see what Covid can do when it gets out of control.
How grateful the Western world can be for the vaccine! Hopefully the program can be rolled out quickly to third world countries.

  17. The Peloton Drama sounds like the Les Mills drama at times hahaha! omg! But it’s odd that they are recalling all the treadmills – isn’t the problem really with a lack of supervision and kids getting hurt? To be honest, after I heard about one child dying, I now close the door so that the cats can’t come in while we are using the bike or treadmill. I don’t want my kitties getting hurt and 2 of the 4 are very curious with these machines!

Mother’s Day is a bit of a sensitive subject for me. It’s a reminder that 1) I’m not a mom, I’m “just” a stepmom and it’s been a pretty bumpy ride for the most part. Though I very surprisingly just received flowers from them and Ron didn’t have anything to do with it and 2) I have a rather strained/ superficial relationship with my mother that I don’t know how to repair/. It’s odd because I was able to move on and have a decent relationship with my dad but not my mom… I love her, I truly do. But… it’s complicated. With all that said – I wish you a lovely day with YOUR mum!!

    • Coco says:

Mother’s Day can be complicated for sure! Even when my kids were little, the “holiday” seemed to put extra stress on everyone for a “perfect” day.

On the Peloton Tread+, the design is different from other treads — it sits up higher off the ground and the belt is open, so balls, pets, limbs, and small children can get pulled under by the motion of the belt.

  18. kookyrunner says:

I also had no side effects with my second Pfizer shot and I actually felt guilty about it because I know the second shot is usually the worst one.

OMG! The Peloton drama this week gave me a huge headache. I am part of 5 Peloton groups on Facebook and I had to turn off my alerts because there were so many posts flying around. I do think that the company really messed up with the change they made to the programs – locking people out that were currently doing the programs is crappy.

  19. Denise says:

I’m starting a hydroponics garden (in my post) but that aero garden looks interesting. I might have to try that too.
No plans for Mother’s Day. I’m hoping to relax at home.
