Celebrating My Peloversary

This week marked one year since the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak was a global pandemic. One year later, I’m still working at home and generally trying to stay safer at home. Peloton is a huge reason I’ve been able to cope with all this time at home–the instructors, the workouts, the community I’ve found in supportive Facebook Groups– all make me happy to be celebrating my Peloversary.

Peloton 52 Week Streak

Peloton could do better with that 52-week badge !

Celebrating My Peloversary

I haven’t made a concerted effort to take Peloton classes with “special event” badges, but I have enjoyed theme classes. I like being exposed to different genres of music–and focusing on new songs is a great way to forget how hard you’re working.

Peloton Theme BadgesI do chase after Peloton challenge badges–which explains the one meditation class I’ve taken. 😉

Peloton Challenge Badges

I was a few months into my Peloton subscription before I started doing daily core workouts, but now they are a habit I’ve adopted for the long term. As Robin Arzon says, “core is everything”–developing a stronger core will make you a better runner, better cyclist, and able to lift heavier weights. It also helps me maintain good posture during the other hours of my day I spend in front of my computer.

Year of Peloton Classes

Still no cardio classes-not even for a badge!

I know once I get vaccinated I will return to my studio classes, but I expect to keep my Peloton subscription and celebrate another Peloversary next year.

Weekly Wrap

I was glad to be back to running outside, because we had fantastic spring weather this week–although it cooled down over the weekend. I took advantage of the nice weather and the early morning light before we changed the clocks.

Monday (My Peloversary): Core +  Ride + Full Body Strength
I didn’t realize it was my Pelovesary until I saw I’d earned that 52-week streak badge. I definitely earned it with this strength class.

Tuesday: Core + 5.65 Scooby Miles
I ran to Becs Gentry’s new 45 min Women’s History Month run where she re-told the story of Kathrine Switzer’s ground-breaking 1967 Boston Marathon, and shared that she is competing in the Olympic trials for the marathon for the UK team! What an inspiring way to start the day.

Scooby Selfie

The only day I needed a jacket.

Wednesday: Core + 3.7 Scooby Miles + Upper Body Strength
It was warm enough for shorts, but still called for long sleeves. I really do love my Scooby Do Run tech hoodie.

Scooby SelfieI followed up my run with upper body strength workouts.

Peloton Workouts

Thursday: Core + 5.6 Scooby Miles + Glutes/Legs Strength
It was almost warm enough for short-sleeves, but my hands would have been cold if I couldn’t tuck them into my sleeves once in a while.

Scooby Selfie

You can’t see them but I’m wearing shorts.

After our run I hit my 500th Peloton strength workout with Selena’s killer glutes & legs class–which includes two sets of glute bridges from hell!

Peloton Workouts

Friday: Core + 3.6 Scooby Miles + Arms & Shoulders Strength
With temperatures in the upper 50s, I ditched my scheduled (indoor) ride and took Scooby for a run in a t-shirt and running skirt. It definitely felt like spring!

Scooby Selfie

Scooby promised to sit nicely without his leash on.

Saturday:  Core + 8.1 Scooby Miles
It was time for my first long run in ages. I didn’t expect it to be easy, but gosh those hills felt hard! I didn’t realize I was running so fast until I saw my Garmin data later–I ran four miles at a sub-9:00 pace! All those treadmill intervals are paying off, but I need to dial it back on longer runs.

Scooby Selfie

Scooby remembered the turns to take on this route!

Sunday: Full Body Strength
Started the day with a dark o’clock walk with Scooby and my first Jess Sims workout since my fall. I took the weights down a notch (using 5s/10s/15s) and had to be careful with the 15s, but it felt good to work hard. I also enjoyed Jess’s tribute to Black educators, and the importance of acknowledging and addressing the “opportunity gap” instead of the “achievement gap.”

By mid-morning, the warm sunshine had convinced me to ignore the gale warnings and go for my first bike ride since my fall. It was gusty, but it felt so good to be outside on my bike!

So many people have had great success this year with the Peloton app and community. I’m so glad it was there for you!!!

  2. Cari says:

Opportunity gap. Such a great turn of phrase even though the situation is awful.
Happy Peloversary! Thank you for being my classes “dealer” as the one thing I don’t like about Peloton is how counterintuitive finding things is.
I’ll never get “all the badges” until I go back to the gym and have access to weights and treadmill to do a bootcamp, but I’m not sure I will go back. NO meditation here either. Congtats on a solid week

It’s fun sharing class ideas with you. It’s hard to imagine that in 2-3 months I could be back at my studios — but will I be?

  3. Marcia says:

Happy Peloversary! It’s been amazing watching that company thrive through the pandemic. Wasn’t it so nice to not need to layer up this week? Gorgeous weather for the win!

  4. Happy Peloversary! I am so glad that you embraced the community and have found so much motivation in the classes as well. #togetherWeGoFar

  5. Catrina says:

Yay for the hilly long run! Nice that the treadmill intervals are paying off.

I agree what you say about core workouts. I’ve being doing of them too since last September and I can feel the difference!

  6. Lisa says:

Congrats on your peloversary! It seems like so many people turned to home workouts this year and they are a great option to have. The warmer weather this week felt amazing but I could have done without this wind this weekend!

    • Coco says:

The wind this weekend, the rain/snow forecast for later this week … that’s our spring! But the taste of nice weather gave me hope.

  7. therightfits says:

Wow, what a week and great paces! The treadmill IS paying off! Scooby must be so happy to be back at it.

  8. runswithpugs says:

Happy Peloversary! Look at all those badges! So many milestone and victories!

Peloton has really done an amazing job during this pandemic. I’m so glad you found such a motivating and supportive tribe.

    • Coco says:

It’s really the instructors who make it fantastic — and the community helps me find the “best” classes — although there’s something for everyone.

  9. Birchwood Pie says:

It’s much better to be celebrating your Peloversary than your pandemicversary. Even when you go back to group classes it will still be nice to have access to their shorter workouts, and of course there will be days when going to the gym doesn’t fit into your schedule.

    • Coco says:

There’s not much to celebrate about the pandemic — until I get vaccinated, which I hope won’t be too much longer. I do think I’ll stick with the Peloton app for a while. The price is hard to beat.

  10. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Great job with all the Peloton workouts, and Happy Anniversary!! It felt so good to be back outside in shorts last week! And outside… on the bike (I also had wind LOL). I love the pic of Scooby sitting so obediently 😉

  11. Jenny says:

What a week- your Peloversary, running in shorts, an 8-miler… sounds like you nailed it. Glad you’re having some nice weather and feeling good!

  12. kookyrunner says:

Happy Peloversary!! I agree with you that the 52 week badge could use a little more color – it’s kind of bland lol. As you know, I’m all about the badges too and I love your awesome display of badges and challenge accomplishments. Try a quick 10 minute HIIT cardio class with Jess – I be you’ll like it 🙂

Another awesome week for you as always. Such a great mix of strength, biking and running.

  13. Happy Peloversary! Yes, Core is definitely everything! I have no idea when mine is. I did do a very short cycle class to keep my weekly P streak alive yesterday — since I ran outside all week, no need for indoor classes.

Although of course I’m jealous of your warmer weather on the weekend — Winter came back for the weekend! Literally (well, no snow).

Cool that Becs is doing the Olympic trials. I never do live classes, and pick them depending on time & music, so I’m usually doing much older classes (plus don’t belong to any Peloton FB groups).

  14. Congrats on your Peloversary! While I hit my one year mark I think I had a week or two of no classes so no streak badge for me. I’m really impressed with all of the strength classes you’ve logged – way to go!

It’s nice to see you and Scooby back to logging more miles 🙂

  15. look at all those badges!! congrats lady!! I bet Scooby is loving the miles lately!!

  16. Congrats on the Peloversary and getting all of those badges! And, so fun when a long run turns out to be speedier than expected! Well done.

  17. Congrats on your Peloversary! I an in awe of all of the classes you’ve taken. Glad you are enjoying your membership. Those are great badges too! I looked at mine too. Not too many but still proud of myself.
