Black Friday Runfessions

Now that I’ve actually been running enough to have some running-related runfessions, I’m grateful for this opportunity to bare my soul soles and head into December with a chance to get on Santa’s nice list! Before you head out for Black Friday shopping, join me at the runfessional over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice.

Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.

Make plans to join the December Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend — Deborah and I will open the (link-up) doors on Friday, and keep the coffee brewing all weekend.

Black Friday Runfessions

I runfess that–with encouragement from many of you–I ditched the C25K program and made up my own “come back” plan that seems to have worked pretty well. On my week long business trip to Wilmington, Delaware, I pushed through a few treadmill workouts using 2:1 intervals (it was too hot for the 3:1 intervals I’d planned on), and then braved the cold, dark city streets for a few 4 mile #runrise runs. After that, it was game on!

Wilmington Runrise

Freezing fingers be damned–it felt so good to be running outside!

I runfess that now that I am feeling better, I want to run all the miles. Of course I don’t want to get injured by doing too much too soon, but I’m having a hard time holding myself back. I’m still going to Cyclebar, Corepower Yoga, and Orangetheory Fitness, so I can’t run every day, but I probably shouldn’t add more running to my OTF days like I did last week. Oops!

I runfess that I would rather #optoutside than go #blackfridayshopping, but I did book a 6:00 am OTF class two blocks from my favorite running store so I will be there early to get the best discount! I prefer to #shoplocal and support #smallbusinesssaturday, but I still do plenty of shopping on-line.

Speaking of my local running store,I runfess that I let the first price increase for my favorite spring 10 miler pass without even visiting the registration page. After DNS-ing Richmond and selling my Reston race passes this year, I am hesitant to sign up for a race so far in advance. While I will have to pay more closer to the deadline, this race doesn’t usually sell out, so I have time to figure things out.

On the other hand, I am tempted to sign up for their Jingle All The Way race on December 8. I runfess I even contemplated the 15K for a hot second before I realized the race is next weekend. Isn’t the medal sweet?

Black Friday shopping–yes or hell no?

So glad you feel well enough to want to run all the miles again! That is a very sweet medal! I runfess it felt weird to NOT get a medal at yesterday’s turkey trot.

  2. Wendy says:

I don’t sign up far in advance for races anymore. There were way too many DNS this year!

Awesome job booking your OTF class so early today! I’m not doing any Black Friday shopping in the stores so I woke up early this morning to start my online black friday shopping before heading to my ORF class at 9:15.

If my fav coach weren’t teaching, I might have bailed. A lot of people did becuase we had a 2G instead of a 3G. It was a good start to the day.

  4. Darlene says:

Glad to hear that you are running again.

Yes it’s hard when you’ve been hurt to be patient and not sign up for races and run all the miles.

Unfortunately that’s how you get hurt again.

Good luck. You gave the right attitude.

That Jingle All the Way medal is really cute!
It’s good to be cautious, but if your legs wanna run let them run!
I am in agreement with you, I’d much rather enjoy the outdoors than shop today! Though I am currently drinking coffee and scouting out race sales online!

  6. Black Friday Shopping — only online, but we have plans to go to a long movie & then need to go pick up the dogs (who we left at the pet sitter yesterday when we went to my parents).

I prefer to wait & pay more than sign up way in advance unless the race has a great deferral plan — which is exactly what I plan to do with the half I’m considering for 2020.

  7. I am worried about signing up for things in advance too but I think I have to throw my name in for CB. I am sad to miss the Jingle all the way next weekend. Glad you are feeling so good!

  8. Yes, that medal is cute!
No way, I don’t do Black Friday shopping, unless it is from my house…lol
Our Community has late night shopping next Friday night and we go to that. All the stores are lit up, they offer snacks, wine, discounts, it’s such a fun night! -M

Sorry I got the Friday link up up late.

    • Coco says:

That late night shopping sounds fun, although after being on my feet in the kitchen all day Thursday, I crashed early on Friday!

  9. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

That medal is adorable!!! I got my #runstreak run done, and am gonna head out with my sister for “just a couple hours” for some BF shopping. I have several things I plan to get online, but I can’t resist checking out a few stores. Glad you’re back in the running shoes and going strong!!!!

    • Coco says:

I hope your Black Friday shopping went well! After having to wait 1/2 in line to special order my size running shoes at the running store, I was DONE with Black Friday, but did a lot of on-line shoppping.

  10. Laurie says:

That medal is really pretty, but I don’t think even a gorgeous medal would tempt me to register for a race. They just wind up hanging on the corner of my mirror. So glad to hear that your on the mend and thinking about running all the miles!

  11. runswithpugs says:

Hell, no! To Black Friday shopping! Even if I wasn’t confined to bed, I can think of nothing more awful.

It’s so hard to see all the race emails come through my inbox. I have to just keep deleting them because it makes me so sad right now.

Love that you have your own comeback plan!

  12. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

I think my comment disappeared (?)…anyways, I’m SOOO glad you’re back running the miles 😉 Keep up the great work 🙂

  13. Elaine D says:

Congrats on the comeback! It’s so easy to get caught up with pushing yourself once you start to feel better but it sounds like you have a plan in place to prevent further injuries. We just went to our local Target to see their sales but nothing spectacular.

  14. Cari says:

    That medal is awesome!
Boo on the Parkway date. Wanted to do it with a friend, but doesn’t work schedule wise. I have the worst luck with that race
    Yay on shop local.
