Mighty Fine March Runfessions

I’m recovering from back-to-back business trips, but didn’t want to miss out on March Runfessions. It is the middle of Lent, after all. It always feels good to bare my soul soles and come clean at the runfessional over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice.

Mighty Fine March Runfessions

runfess that now that I am feeling mighty fine (my sprained ankle is 100% better and my hip issue seems to be resolved), it’s hard to make myself keep up with my stretches. With apologies to the confessional prayer at the beginning of the Daily Prayer podcast I’ve been listening to, “If I say I have not skimped on my stretches, I deceive myself.”

Speaking of confessions, I runfess that last weekend I skipped church to go to Cyclebar before my flight. It was a matter of choosing mental health over spiritual enrichment, and taking care of the need I was feeling most deeply at the time.

I runfess that between conferences and business trips, I’ve eaten dinner out more than 15 times this month, including most weeknights over the past two weeks. I’ve done pretty well sticking to vegetarian and fish options for Lent, but that doesn’t mean my meals have been healthy. I’ve had as much cheesy pasta, french fries, and pizza as I’ve had broiled fish and salad. I runfess that I’ve had the office gym locker room to myself since before our last runfessions. Does the other woman have a different schedule? Did she get a different job? It sure has been mighty fine to not have to deal with her b.s. in the morning.

Have you had a mighty fine March?

Looks like you did have a mighty fine March once that ankle injury resolved! I have been really skimping on my stretching/yoga the past couple of months and I need to get back at it.

  2. Laurie says:

So glad to read that your ankle and hip are behaving! Running when you feel good makes all the difference in the world. Ever since I have recovered from the hamstring injury that plagued me for almost 2 years, I have become a stretching FANATIC! If I go to bed, then realize I forgot to stretch, I get out of bed and stretch in my jammies!

  3. March has been good and I can’t believe it’s almost over! I traveled a ton in January and February and it really messed with my usual eating habits. It’s so hard to stay on track when traveling.

  4. I mostly try to make healthy choices when I have to eat out a lot but it’s still hard! I almost always gain & it never comes off as quickly as it goes on.

It’s really hard to keep up with PT when we feel good. I’m still at it sometimes because my foot still aches . . . sometimes. Probably will be ongoing the rest of my life but it is much better.

I guess the trick is to have enough twinges to keep up with the stretches, but not so many to hold you back from doing what you want!

      • I suppose — but seriously, who wants twinges?

A couple of years ago I had that ankle pain, and that’s one that, knock of wood, hasn’t come back.

The foot ache (not so much pain) is an ongoing thing. There are times it doesn’t bother me, but it never seems to completely go away. I’m still hopeful one day it will!

Totally understand what you mean about eating out. I was in Minnesota for work and we ate out for almost every meal. After about 2 days, I’m over it, lol

  6. pglooney says:

I have had a mighty fine March as well, glad you got the locker room to yourself. LOL

  7. Everyone needs a cheesy pasta or pizza sometimes! So glad that your ankle is feeling better. I thought mine was but it’s back. Ugh! Can’t wait to see you next weekend at the coffee date and in person

  8. I’m glad your ankle and hip are on the mend! I had a lot of eating out with my March travels, too! I did pretty well but had some splurges, too! Love the new graphic and all of your cartoon Cocos!

    • Coco says:

Luckily I had time to go to the gym most days, and my breakfasts were pretty healthy …. Some of the Bitmojis are just too perfect!

  9. Chaitali says:

That’s great that you’re feeling so much better with no pain! But yeah, I’m the same way. I’ve been skimping on the PT exercises too now that I’m feeling better and have no big races coming up. And yay for having the office gym to yourself 🙂

  10. Great to hear that you’re feeling 100%! It is so hard to feel motivated to keep up with the PT when everything is feeling good – I know I totally struggle with that!

Allelujah for having the office locker room to yourself 😉

By the way I’m loving the graphics – how did you create them? Bitmoji?

  11. I’m loving all of your mighty fine Bitmojis 😉 It’s great you’re back to feeling so good, hoping all the aches/pains stay away!!

  12. Smitha says:

    Bitmojis for the win!

I often wonder about other “buddies” when I don’t see them at the gym or my running place or whereever. When I took time off injury and went back to my usual spot, I literally got a running ovation from this group that also runs there at the same time as me. lol.

  13. Haha, that is good news that you have the locker to yourself. But now I’m sure we are all curious about the other lady. Please keep us updated when you find out where she’s been….lol

  14. Renée says:

yay for ankles and hips back in line again! when I’m feeling fit I also tend to skimp on things. bad. we know better!

you know, I’m not religious but I was raised with religion; the God that I learned about I think would be pretty understanding on your choice. Church is just one place that you can worship and appreciate and be grateful. Taking care of YOU is important too.

March was good and I’m glad to be near the end of it. It was all about training, running and getting ready for surgery. Now I’m all about recovery.

(my blog is finally updated and moved – I’m over at runlaugheatpie.com now!)

    • Coco says:

I’m glad your surgery went well! I don’t really feel “guilty” about missing church, but I don’t like to miss because I do find it meaningful and enriching.

  15. Marcia says:

Hallelujah to Ms Pigpen being MIA from the locker room! That must feel wonderful! I share your pain on the eating out thing. Spending this week in Atlanta had me eating #allthefood. Wow it adds up fast. Thanks for runfessing!

    • Coco says:

I’m sure the food in Atlanta was delicious! At least I got to workout on my trip, but the rest of the time I was sitting in meetings. :-/

  16. angela@marathonsandmotivation.com says:

I’m so glad your ankle is better! I have just gotten back into yoga and stretching…it has been a game changer for my running!!

  17. Oh jeez I’m horrible about eating out. I’ve been trying to cook at home more, but I’ve also done a lot of traveling this month and haven’t really had much time to cook. So I do need to get back on track in April…

  18. Glad to hear your ankle is feeling better!
I think that sometimes a good workout can help with spiritual growth! I know I say a lot of prayers during some workouts!

Glad to hear your morning ‘friend’ has not been around so you can have some peace!

Hope the rest of Lent goes well for you!

    • Coco says:

Thanks! I think I spotter her car this morning, so my fantasy of her getting a new job probably sin’t right. She wasn’t parked near the gym entrance, though, so maybe she has a new fitness routine.

  19. Organic Runner Mom says:

Sometimes you’ve just got to eat out and that’s ok 🙂 So happy to hear your ankle and hip issues have resolved!

  20. rach says:

I’m glad you are feeling better! I ate out this month way too much as well..sometimes life just gets busy.

  21. Cari says:

Glad your hip & ankle are on the mend. May we all spring into good health
