Wrapping Up 2018

We are down to the last hours of 2018, and I am taking Holly and Wendy up on their offer to use this week’s Weekly Wrap to spend some time wrapping up 2018. It’s fun to look back and remember the races, bike rides, hikes, and Scooby Miles that made the year so special.

In case you missed it, I also did some looking back in my December Runfessions.

Wrapping Up 2018

Running in 2018

I participated in seven races this year: one 5K, four ten milers, one 15K, and 1 half marathon. I placed first in my age group in the 5K, third in one of the ten milers, and fifth in the 15K. Not bad for a year when my only “speed work” was at Orange Theory Fitness.

You can find links to all my race recaps here.

Garmin Connect Running Miles: 670
(including < 2 miles per OTF class I remembered to track)

Cycling in 2018

My husband and I rode in two organized bike rides, the Farm To Fork Fondo–Pennsylvania Dutch and the Reston Metric Century.

We also participated in many group rides out of the Conte’s bike shop in Falls Church and the new Conte’s bike shop in Alexandria.

Garmin Connect Cycling Miles: 1668
(including 13-14 miles per Cyclebar class I remembered to track)

Fitness Classes in 2018

I attended 45 Orange Theory Fitness classes (with one more on the calendar for tomorrow), 44 Core Power Yoga classes, and 37 Cyclebar classes.

Hiking in 2018

It should come as no surprise that my favorite outdoor activity this year was hiking in Yellowstone.

Is it any wonder why?

#ScoobyMiles in 2018

My second favorite outdoor activity of 2018 was walking and running with Scooby. When we first got Scooby, I usually took him on two of his three daily walks (each about 1 mile). Now that his routine is down to two daily walks, I usually take the morning shift.

I didn’t track my #ScoobyMiles separately, but I know there were a lot of them!

And that’s a wrap!

What was your favorite fitness-related activity of 2018?Β

Make sure you mark your new calendars and join Deborah and me for the January Ultimate Coffee DateΒ next weekend. I’m sure we’ll be talking about goals, resolutions and things we’re looking forward to in the new year. We’ll open the (link-up) doors on Friday, and keep the coffee brewing all weekend.

You had a great year! Wow to all those classes. I loved seeing your Yellowstone pics. And of course Scooby! πŸ™‚

  2. That’s a lot of classes! It’s crazy when you tally up the count how many there were that you took advantage of…good for you! You mentioned Scooby miles…that makes me wonder how many miles Max has done? He never runs with me, but we walk him everyday, often times 2-3 times each day. You’ve had a great year!

    • Coco says:

I was glad all my apps had all my classes back to January. You can tell how much I love my yoga instructor! If you tracked your walks, and tagged Max as your “equipment” you could get a tally for next year?

  3. Wendy says:

Super impressed with all your cycling miles! And OTF totally counts for speedwork. I’ve stopped doing speedwork with the bootcamp and the run/walk intervals that I do. At this point, I don’t think it would make a difference!

  4. deborahbrooks14 says:

You had a really great year of running and cycling, I am always amazed at how you crush it on race day. Hope to see each other more this year

  5. kookyrunner says:

Wow that’s a lot of classes! Congrats on another get year of running, including all those fun ScoobyMiles!

  6. You had a great year — especially with the addition of Scooby, of course. Hiking is one of my favorite things, but our weather sucked so much this summer, there was little hiking to be had. πŸ™

    • Coco says:

I do remember all the hiking you used to do. Hopefully 2019 will bring better weather for it.

      • The weather this summer was just so horrible. If it wasn’t raining, it was hot & very humid. And while many hikes are nicely shaded, the mosquitoes . . . ugh!

I’d definitely like to get back to it this year! We’ll see what the summer brings.

  7. Liz Dexter says:

A great year and I love the variety of things you get up to!

  8. Darlene says:

    O f course I think I responded on my phone but it’s gone so…

Congrats on a good year – a lot of variety. I wish I had a dog as a companion but I have been lucky lately to have company from some friends.

    Hope your 2019 is injury-free.

  9. Organic Runner Mom says:

yellowstone must have been sooooo cool! On my bucket list for sure! Way to go with the races that you completed this year. And that Farm to Fork Fondo sounds like such an incredible event!

  10. RenΔ—e says:

RunnIng, cycling, orange theory, hiking, Scooby miles… when did you actually sleep?! Ha! Fabulously active year!

My favorite fitness related activity? That’s toug!h! Parkruns in Poland and Italy, and biking up in leeuwarden would probably top the list!

    • Coco says:

LOL, I really do sleep, I just do a little bit of everything fitness in between. πŸ™‚
All of those activities sound good to me.

  11. Elle says:

Looks like a great year! Here is to a happy and healthy and active 2019.

  12. I loved training and racing my first half. I loved the whole process and I can’t wait to get back to it!

  13. What a fantastic year with so many different activities! I really want to up my cycling game in 2019. My husband doesn’t run, so cycling is a fun way we can stay active together. Happy new year!

  14. therightfits says:

Oh that would be a fun stat- miles with the dog πŸ™‚ I should try to figure that out….though this year wasn’t good for me with the broken leg.

I’m so impressed with all you fit in, particularly all those fitness classes! What a fantastic mix.

  15. Congrats on an active year, lots of fun activities! I hope you have a Happy New Year!

  16. Cari says:

Wow, what an amazing cycling total.
Surprised our running totals are so close — seemed you ran so much more.
Scooby miles may be your most entertaining

    • Coco says:

I really don’t run much — only 1-2x/week. πŸ˜‰ Scooby miles certainly are fun — as long as there aren’t too many squirrels out.

  17. runswithpugs says:

I absolutely love all your cycling adventures! I wish there was a way for me to branch out a little more in that discipline, but Florida is tough for road cycling. Our rail trail is expanding though, so maybe that will open up more opportunities.

Another great year for you! Congratulations!

  18. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

Congrats on a great year! You were extremely active and had such a great mix of workouts! I would love to get into cycling but I’m soooo intimidated!

  19. Karen :0) says:

What a great year of running you had! Congrats on placing in some of your races. I also cross trained with Orangetheory this year (our studio opened in June) and I love it!!

  20. What a solid year and I just love the variety of all your fitness activities. You remind me so much of my husband who gets bored if he just does one thing. But he says he has to keep varying things to keep it interesting and fun! Can’t wait to see how you do in 2019!

  21. HoHo Runs says:

Wow! You killed it in the Fitness Class category. And obviously, it makes for great results on the road too. I hope I get to ride my bike more in 2019. After all, I’ll have new roads to explore. Happy New Year, Coco, and thanks for linking with us this year!
