Sweaty Summer Workouts

No matter how you measure summer, we are in the midst of it. While I always enjoy a good sweaty workout, I prefer to earn my sweat–and not from just taking a step outside. That’s why I spent the first week of July trying to hide from the oppressive humidity, and took my sweaty summer workouts inside.

Then the humidity broke and I couldn’t resist the cooler running weather–even though I still got sweat in my eyes.

Sweaty Summer Workouts

Since I dedicated last week’s post to my Farm To Fork Fondo recap (did you see it?), I’m going to squeeze in two weeks of sweaty summer workouts for the Weekly Wrap link up hosted by Holly and Wendy:

Monday (July 2): Orange Theory Fitness
After a rest day on Sunday, I was ready to workout with Brandon at OTF. It’s always a sweat-fest at OTF, even if I don’t earn many splat points.

Tuesday (July 3):  Cyclebar
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Aimee’s Tuesday class but it was a great ride, and definitely got me sweating despite the air conditioning and overhead fans.

Wednesday (July 4): Orange Theory Fitness
It was still so humid, I skipped all the July 4th runs and opted for an air conditioned workout at OTF. There was a “choose your own” theme, and I opted for distance intervals on the rower and incline intervals on the treadmill–the only way to get my heart rate up in a short period of time.

Thursday: (July 5): 4 Scooby Miles
I thought the humidity was going to break by Thursday morning, but I was wrong. At least Scooby didn’t mind it.

Friday (July 6): CPY2 @ CorePower yoga

Saturday (July 7): 41  miles

Finally relief!
The weather was so fantastic
we did a 20 mile out-and-back on
the W & OD trail after the Conte’s hill ride.

I wear a headband under my helmet to keep sweat out of my eyes!

Sunday (July 8): 9 mile run
I couldn’t drag myself out of bed in time to squeeze in a run before church, so I opted for a shady route along the Custis Trail for a mid-morning run.

The hills were no joke, but at least the last mile was easy!

Monday (July 9):  4 Scooby Miles
The weather was still nice when I took Scooby out, so I decided to take him on a 4 mile run instead of a walk.

Tuesday (July 10):  Cyclebar with Aimee again!

Wednesday (July 11):  Strength Workout
I’ve been having so much fun running with Scooby, I’ve been neglecting my strength workouts, but I know that’s a surefire way to end up injured again.

Thursday: (July 12): 5 Scooby Miles
It was still so nice–dew point of 54F!–I decided to see if Scooby was ready for a 5 mile run. He finished strong and didn’t even seem that tired later.

Friday (July 13): CPY2 @ CorePower yoga
Hot yoga always means a sweaty workout–my yoga clothes always are the sweatiest. This week my mat towel was so gross I had to do laundry as soon as I got home.

Saturday (July 14): 5 Scooby miles + 3 solo miles

It was another glorious summer morning, so I took Scooby out for 5 miles and then did 3 more on my own–after grabbing a hat and sunglasses for my second run. I’m surprised at my similar pacing.

Sunday: 40 mile bike ride, includng 20 with Deborah and Deb to check out the Velo Love sign in Leesburg!

Everything I do feels super sweaty these days! A Cyclebar just opened up near me. I’m thinking I want to try it in the winter. I love the variety in your workouts. That’s where I’m heading too!

  2. My favorite sweaty workout in the summer is SUP 😉 I’ll be back in the US next month and I’m looking forward to logging some bike miles while I’m there. I don’t think I could do 40 miles though!

  3. Marcia says:

You sure are keeping Scooby busy! My fave workout when it’s really hot is either cycling or swimming.

  4. therightfits says:

Scooby had fun week! So cute. Dogs make great exercise companions!

  5. Cari says:

I feel you on earning the sweat, so true.
Love the pic of you & Scooby, he seems to be adapting well to your routine

  6. That LOVE sign is so neat (as are the lovely ladies posing in front of it) 😉 Scooby sure has built up his mileage quickly…too bad us humans can’t quite do it that way.

  7. Liz Dexter says:

Scooby looks like he had fun on his miles, how lovely to have him along with you! I don’t like getting massively sweaty but I somehow prefer it in a spin class than out running!

  8. kookyrunner says:

Awesome week of workouts! It also looks like Scooby is quite the great running partner!

  9. Organic Runner Mom says:

Scooby is so cute! CycleBar looks awesome! I wish we had more choices of places to workout here where I lived. Nice jobb with all of your great workouts!

  10. Nice week of workouts! I like to take classes inside in the air conditioning when it is so hot and humid out! I have yet to take an Orange Theory class, but do spin quite often.

  11. Lesley says:

I’ve been a sweaty mess whenever I’ve been outside this summer. It doesn’t matter if I was running or not. Thankfully we got a good rain storm yesterday to cool things off a little bit.

  12. Chaitali says:

Sounds like a great couple weeks! The lower humidity days we’ve had definitely were a nice treat 🙂

  13. Running is my all the time favorite workout. Although I do love to do cross training now and then and I also really enjoy a good walk!

  14. I’d certainly much rather opt outside but it’s great to have so many indoor options! You really packed a lot in to these past two weeks!

  15. Super sweaty is definitely a great description for how I’ve felt during my recent workouts. My husband wants nothing to do with me when I arrive back home after a run. Thank goodness my son doesn’t care whatsoever and wants hugs no matter what.

  16. Darlene says:

It sure was a sweaty week and this one as well so far.

Good for you getting it done everyday.

I run that it and occasionally tennis.

  17. runswithpugs says:

Oh, girl. I earn that sweat every time I choose to walk out the door! There is no avoiding the heat and humidity here. It’s like running through Jello!

You had some great workouts! And Scooby is just the cutest thing!

  18. Love all the miles you’ve been logging with Scooby – doesn’t sound like he ever tires out!

  19. debolton says:

Gurl, you know how to sweat. I love the variety in your training. Keeps it fun!

  20. Heat/Humidty 0 – Coco 1! You are killing it out there! Well done on some great (and very sweaty) workouts! I love how you mix things up and Scooby is definitely a loyal exercise companion!

  21. I’m not sure I’d ever put together the words “favorite” & “sweaty”. 🙂

You had a very solid week & so did Scooby, LOL!

  22. Denise says:

Scooby has been getting some miles in, he must love it! I want to try a Cyclebar class, I have a friend who loves it. Looks like you had a great couple of weeks with a variety of workouts. Glad your weather has eased up a bit. 🙂

  23. Farrah says:

Definitely looks like you’ve been getting some good workouts in! Scooby is so cute! <3! Those would be my favorite miles! 😛
