Running Gear Runfessions

There are still a few days left in March, but it’s time to gather at Marcia’s runfessional. This month I’m sharing some running gear runfessions, so it really is my soles that need cleansing!

March Runfessions

Also join me in the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.

Deborah and I will be hosting the April Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday April 2nd, and keep the coffee brewing.

Running Gear Runfessions

My March runfessions are all related to my running gear.

As much as it sucked to fracture my rib and my hand, I runfess I was almost equally bummed that I put I hole in my new mitten/gloves. They have cozy Smartwool fabric inside and a mitten flap for colder days, and are just the right weight to keep my fingers warm without making my hands sweaty.

I runfess I still wear them, even though they aren’t quite as warm with this hole!

Transitioning from much-loved gear to un-loved gear, I runfess the SkirtSports skirt/capri combo I bought to keep my bum warm on cold runs is still in the packaging. Being sidelined from outdoor running for 6 weeks in January and February, I missed the coldest weather.

Hopefully they will still fit next year.

On the other hand, new running shoes never go unworn for long. Brooks had a sale a few weeks ago, so I ordered a new pair of Ravenna even though my current pair should be good for 50 more miles. I runfess I broke the new ones out of their box this week because I had left my current pair upstairs.

Scooby and New Running Shoes

I couldn’t keep Scooby waiting!

I runfess I was a bit embarrassed when after last month’s runfession about my water bottle hygiene the folks from Super Sparrow offered to send me some of their water bottles to try. They have two main styles in several sizes and a rainbow of colors. I really needed a one-touch flip top bottle in a size that fits in my car’s cup holder.

Super Sparrow Water bottlesI love the carrying straps!

The 750 mL blue bottle on the left (made of BPA-free plastic) fits perfectly. The flip top is easy to use and drink from while still being leak-free when closed. My husband will use the stainless steel bottles on his hikes–and will appreciate the insulated carrier with a shoulder strap. The stainless steel bottles can be used with a twist-off cap (on the right) or a sports cap (second from left), and come with reusable straws and brushes for cleaning themahem!

Do you have running gear you haven’t gotten around to using yet?

Ooooh love that those bottles come with the cleaning brush! So important. I had to buy a brush separately because as you know….you need it. Bummer about the mitten hole! Thanks for linking!

  2. I’m usually pretty excited to use something new, although I often buy the end of season sales and don’t use something to the next year.

I had ordered a pair of fleece lined leggings a while back — Black Friday, in fact. When they finally came this month I washed them and wore them the next day because I knew it was probably the only chance I’d get to wear them this year, LOL!

Oh no on the hole in the gloves!

  3. Wendy says:

I would have done the same thing with the shoes, which is actually a problem I’m having right now. I’ve lost track of the mileage on my 3 pairs of Adrenalines. What to do?

I love that that company sent you waterbottles, lol! You never know who is reading our posts!

    • Coco says:

I’ve got good at tracking them in Garmin Connect, but it’s a PITA if I forget and have to try to remember which shoes I wore a few days ago.

  4. Coco says:

I missed my chance for fleece this year!

  5. Darlene says:

I had mitten with a hole in the thumb for years…finally replaced them.

I order water bottle and holders for my belt to use when training for my marathon….never used them. Never will lol.

I have so many water bottles. Guilty on washing them. I just throw them out…but they are free ones.

    • Coco says:

Oh, that gives me hope that my mitten will survive despite the hole. At least it’s not on a finger tip where it would tend to grow.

  6. I admit I found a running skirt and a running jacket with the tags on them! I have used the jacket but don’t like the skirt on me,. I also just sold 6 skirt sports items (used) there is a fb group for that! People just snap it up

  7. jenny says:

That’s funny that your water bottle hygiene confession got you some free bottles! And those brushes for cleaning them should come in handy. They also sell brushes at Bed Bath and Beyond- it’s a set of two, a bigger one for the bottle and a skinny one for the straw. After all this you’ll have the cleanest bottles around!

  8. I love that Super Sparrow sent you a few bottles to try – especially with the cleaning brush!

I’m bummed I snoozed on the Brooks sale. I would have taken a run in them right away too…you can’t just let new shoes sit there, right?! 😉

  9. I runfess that I bought new shoes this week even though I don’t need any right now! I did donate shoes last week so thats a good reason to buy a new pair, right?

  10. That’s great the bottles come with cleaning brushes! I have soaked some of my straws in water (with a denture tablet LOL), and that helps some, but there seems to always be a bit of a film remaining. I have a hard time finding bottles that work conveniently with my bike, so I often just wash and re-use bottled water bottles that have flip-tops.

    • Coco says:

Oh, I hadn’t thought of using denture tablets for cleaning. Great idea. The water bottle holder on my bike grabs the fat water bottles pretty well.

  11. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

Ugh that stinks about your glove! I guess sewing it together isn’t an option?

Those bottles look great! There are so many nice options these days, very nice upgrade.

  12. Laurie says:

Those Smartwool mitten gloves look like something I must have. I have the glove liners, which I wear all winter. They are good for most temperatures, except the really cold days. These mittens could be used for those 10 – 15 days when the liners are not warm enough.

Cool that the bottles come with a cleaning brush. I like that!

  13. runswithpugs says:

I intended to save my new Adrenalines until next week, but then I woke up and somehow started running in them. Oops.

I can’t help myself when I have new gear.

    Those water bottles are cute!

  14. That is awesome about the water bottles! Now you have no excuse not to clean them. 🙂 Bummer about the mittens/gloves. How about sewing up the hole? Too funny about the shoes. I have a few new pairs that I want to wear and have been doing good about waiting.

  15. Not sure if my other comment went through. Let’s see if I remember what I wrote. That is cool about the water bottles. Bummer about the mittens/gloves. Perhaps you can sew the hole? I have a few new pairs of shoes and am surprised I am actually waiting for when it is time to use them. 🙂

  16. run.laugh.eat pie says:

I runfess that I actually bought some new running gear and spent a small fortune on it. Had it not been for 1) not buying anything at all new last year (except my parkrun top and a shirt that was supposed to be used for Chicago) – especially NO procompression socks and NO inknburn and 2) also not being able to go anywhere so still having a considerable amount in my savings from my vacation money, I wouldn’t have done it. But If I think about the money I spent on two new pairs of shoes and FIVE items from InknBurn and I go into shock. That needs a runfession post on it’s own…

I need to chuck all my water bottles. I think they are all petri dishes in the making!

    • Coco says:

We must have been bitten by the sane InkNBurn bug. I think the fact that items sell out encourages impulse buying. 🙂

  17. I love stocking up on brooks when they go on sale. I love the launch.
