This was my first week back in action after being sidelined with DVT blood clots. It was so good to see my favorite fitness instructors again, I don’t even mind the additional sweaty laundry.
I used my hrm to keep things on the easy side.
Diagnosis: Grave’s Disease
I saw an endocrinologist on Friday about my over-active thyroid, and he diagnosed me with Grave’s disease, which is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism affecting 1/200 people. Grave’s disease is an autoimmune disease where antibodies target your thyroid and make it produce too much thyroid hormones.
I will be treated with methimazole for several months, although I should start feeling better in 6-8 weeks. He offered prapanalol (a β-blocker) to relieve some of my symptoms in the meantime, but since I’m still on Xaralto and used to the symptoms, I declined. My pharmacy didn’t have methimazole in stock, so I have to wait to Monday to start treatment. Hopefully I won’t experience side effects or get too fatigued as my thyroid slows down.
The highlight of my week was a pre-MCM meet-up with Kim, Rachel, Deborah, Tamika, and Lexie. We met at Unconventional Diner which was a fantastic choice. I noshed on matzo ball chicken noodle soup and corn bread muffins.

Back In Action
As I runfessed, I took my workouts from 0 to 100% this week. It felt so good to get back to my studios and get sweaty!
Monday: C25K Week 1, Day 2, with Scooby
Tuesday: Cyclebar
I hadn’t been to Aimee’s class since September 10!
I ranked next-to-last, but I had fun.
Wednesday Orangetheory Fitness
I signed up a few weeks ago when I thought this would be the first class of Hell Week, which didn’t start until Thursday. It felt good to be back, although I walked the “base pace” segments to keep my hr in check.
Thursday: Corepower Yoga
Our peak pose was Baby Crow–crow with your forearms on the mat. I could do it for a second before my leg rolled off my arm!
Friday: Orangetheory Fitness
This was my first HeIl Week class. on the treadmill we increased the incline by 1% every minute up to level 15, so I did a lot of walking–once we got to 6%.

Saturday: Orangetheory Fitness + C25K Week 1, Day 3 with Scooby
For this workout, the treadmill block was sort of the opposite of Friday’s. We started at incline 15, walked .08 miles, got off the treadmill to do increasing reps of squat-to-shoulder press, decreased the incline by 2%, etc. Once we could run, we were supposed to go 0.15 miles before stopping to do the strength move.

Since I only ran for a few minutes at Orangetheory, when I got home I took Scooby out for Week 1, Day 3 of the C25K program.
I think I’ll start Week 3 next week.
Sunday: Orangetheory Fitness
The theme for today was Crawl–as in, you will need to crawl out of the studio when you’re done! We did a run-row boomerang for the rower and treadmill blocks. My first round I did 6.0 for most of the intervals (2:30, 3:30) and 6.3 mph for the last 30 seconds. My second round I did 6.1 mph for most of the intervals (2:00, 3:00) and 6.3 mph for the last 30 seconds.

Oh my gosh, Coco, I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis with Graves disease. I think we need to start an autoimmune sisters club for all of us! I hope the new med gets things under control for you. Hang in there–you can always reach out to me privately if you need to talk!
Yes, we with rogue antibodies need to unite! My pharmacy finally had my Rx, so now it just has to kick in.
Ha ha the only good thing about not working out is less stinky laundry. Those OT classes sound legit. Sorry about the Graves and the long time for meds to work but glad you’re back in the game.
The endorphins are worth the laundry. 😉

Coco, I’m sorry about the Graves diagnosis. Hopefully the new meds will help to get things under control without making you feel too tired. Looks like you all had a great blogger meet-up – always fun to catch up IRL!

So sorry to hear about the Graves dx. Seems to be the season for autoimmune systems to go haywire. A good friend of mine (who is an OTF trainer BTW) has Graves and does well with managing it. I hope that is your experience as well.

I’m glad you have been able to get back to your workouts, but I’m sorry about your diagnosis! Hopefully though you can get the right treatment and minimize any symptoms. Great job getting back out there after your time off!

That Hell Week really sounds like Hell on steroids. UGH! As I told Kim, I’m glad it’s you (well, and her LOL) and NOT me. So great to see you this weekend, especially on the MCM course. I was so close to crashing and burning by that point, you gave me a grand dose of mojo to soldier on to the finish (albeit much slower than I wanted LOL). Weren’t those corn muffins the best???
All the food was great — but maybe because it was enjoyed in great company. 🙂
