October Runfessions

You might think that with as little running as I’ve been doing lately I wouldn’t have anything to runfess, but my soul soles always need a good cleansing! I’m making my way to the runfessional at Marcia’s Healthy Slice and hope you join me!

Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.

Make plans to join the November Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend — Deborah and I will open the (link-up) doors on Friday, and keep the coffee brewing all weekend.

October Runfessions

I runfess that I don’t know if I’ll have the patience to complete the C25K program. I’ve already been extending the running intervals and shortening the walk breaks.  I feel like I do almost as much running at Orangetheory.

I may have to skip a few to get to a level that I’m ready for.

I runfess that I went from 0 to 100 mph with my workouts this week. After being sidelined from cardio for 3 weeks (plus one more week when I didn’t workout in England), I was eager to get back to spinning and Orangetheory.  Hopefully I am taking it easy enough so I won’t get injured.

I runfess that one reason I already did two Orangetheory classes this week is because I thought Hell Week started on Wednesday.  It wasn’t until I grabbed this photo that I realized that Wednesday class would not count towards the 5 that will earn me a t-shirt.

I runfess that while I have a few more days to defer my Richmond Half Marathon registration to next year, I am inclined to just let it go. I just don’t want the pressure of a half marathon hanging over me when I’m still in week one of the C25K program.

I runfess that I am not jealous of my friends running MCM this weekend, although I do hope to cheer them on. The weather is looking wet, but I think that’s better than hot.

Rachel, Kim, Erika, I’m rooting for you!

What’s your favorite Halloween candy?

  1. I’m a little confused — why not defer Richmond to next year? Either way you’re going to have to pay for it, right? So why not just defer and then if you decide it’s not for you next year, no big deal really. Anyway, my $.02.

I tend to take it pretty easy with returning to running if I’ve been out for a while. But that’s me, you know your body best.

Favorite candy is Snickers (and it doesn’t have to be on Halloween). Actually, haven’t had one in years, but a local chocolate shop makes a pretty good Snickers-like candy. Haven’t had one of those in a while either . . .

    • Coco says:

Oh, have you had the snickers ice cream bars? Those are yummy! On Richmond, there’s a charge to defer, so I feel like it’s throwing good money after bad. The whole appeal was that it’s on my birthday, which it won’t be next year ….

      • That’s too bad. Although it would still be near your birthday, right?

No, I haven’t tried the Snickers ice cream bars. Most of the time I don’t keep ice cream in the house, and go out for it if I want it — our local place has a chocolate pb ice cream — or moose tracks, which even though it’s vanilla, it’s still got plenty of chocolate & I really like that, too.

I often mix nut butter with some cacao (or chocolate protein powder, or some sort of healthy chocolate mix), and then mix that into greek yogurt. And top it with cacao nibs. It’s really yummy (although not ice cream, LOL).

I am not surprised that you’re getting frustrated with the C25K program. Your fitness level is way too high for that!

I agree with Judy–don’t just let Richmond go. Defer and if you don’t want to run it next year, then let it go!

    • Coco says:

I’ve lost so much endurance and my over-active thyroid has my hr sky-high, so I need those walk breaks, but I can run longer.

  3. Marcia says:

I feel your pain with low endurance and a sky high HR. That’s probably why I love trails so much. I forget about pace and walk whenever I need to. I do think your fitness will come back faster than C25K will expect it to. Too bad about a rainy MCM. Hopefully it’ll be warm enough so being wet won’t matter that much.

  4. kookyrunner says:

I really hope that the rain holds off for MCM this weekend. Nothing worse than running that long and being soaked the whole time 🙁

I did my first Hell Week workout yesterday. It’s crazy the things we’ll do for a shirt, lol.

  5. I would imagine you would get frustrated with the C25K. Even if you took a few weeks off, your fitness level is higher than that. I would just move to run walk intervals. I will talk to you about it tonight. Looking forward to seeing you all

  6. My favorite Halloween candy is reese’s peanut butter cups! I am happy to hear you are back to working out. Try not to overdo it! I’ll be cheering all of the MCM runners on too. I love that race!

  7. I get that it would be frustrating to start that c25k program. Even starting a marathon training plan off super easy sometimes leaves me frustrated and wanting to do more. Hopefully the rain isnt too bad this weekend!

  8. Chaitali says:

Good luck with the c25k program. I can see why it would be easy to get frustrated with it. Hope the meds help with the high heart rate. Fingers crossed that the rain somehow misses us by for MCM.

  9. So, you’re doing Hell Week, too! Have fun! Looking forward to seeing you this weekend…and I’m crossing my fingers & toes the rain isn’t too crazy 🙂

  10. I can see how C25K would feel frustrating given your current fitness level. I vote for deferring Richmond so you still have it available to you – I’m hoping to run that one next year! Good luck with Hell Week!

  11. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

It must feel great to be back at it in classes after such a long break! I have never done OTF – I wish I had a studio nearby that I could just check out!

I LIVE for Reese’s cups – any size will do!

  12. Cari says:

Peppermint Patty, but I’ll do a Reese’s in a pinch. Especially the white chocolate ghosties. I think C25K is a better guide than an absolute prescription. Good luck with Hell Week!

  13. Renée says:

I runfess I have nothing to runfess that doesn’t sound like sour grapes. But I don’t really understand (and obviously I missed it) – why do you have to do C25K? I mean if you have to build up, can you start in like week 4 or something?

I can’t wait to go from 1 to 100 with my workouts. Or actually, I may be up to 20 by next week 😉

Halloween candy – well it’s all candy to me, since I don’t know specifics for Halloween. I did buy some sweets in Chicago for my colleagues that were Halloween themed though. I’m a chocolate girl at heart (and hips) but I also love those sour-sweet gummies you can get in all shapes and sizes.

    • Coco says:

Ah, those gummies! My kids loved the Sour Patch Kids brand. I think I’m going to try Week 3 of C25K next. It has 90 ec and 3 minute running intervals.

  14. Laurie says:

I think I would be the same as you, Coco – once cleared for aerobics, I think I would be tempted to go from 0 to 100 too! Too bad you can’t transfer the Richmond bib. I would definitely be tempted to take it. I love Richmond, both the city and the race. It was hubby’s first full marathon. Hope to see you this weekend in the rain!

  15. Did I miss something? Why are you doing C25k?
That’s too bad about Richmond. I do hope it works out for you next year if you choose to run it.

  16. Never Too Old to Lift says:

I recommend couch to 5km to many of my patients coming back from injury as a great way to gradually increase their mileage without going all out and flaring the injury back up. Given I recommend it so much I thought I should go through it to see if I’d find it as frustratingly slow as I thought. It was quite the opposite, I found I ran a lot faster in the ‘run’ interval that I needed my ‘walk’ intervals to recover. My 5km time improved as a result. I say you should stick with it!

  17. runswithpugs says:

All that rain was pretty miserable looking. Rain is absolutely my kryptonite.

Hell week sounds amazing and terrible all at once. I wish we had something like that at 9Round. I think it would be fun! And awful!

Favorite candy is Twix or Take5.
