Nearly Run-Less Runfessions

There are still a few days left in September, but I’m ready to make my way to the runfessional at Marcia’s Healthy Slice to bare my soul soles and get October off to a fresh start .

Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.

Make plans to join the September Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend — Deborah and I will open the (link-up) doors on Friday, and keep the coffee brewing all weekend.

I runfess that I barely have been running enough to be runfessing.

I runfess that I never touched the running clothes I took on my trip to England. It was too dark to run before our workday started, and we worked late into the night. I was hoping to run on our last morning, but woke to pouring rain. I did squeeze in a walk one morning, and lucked out when the gates to Vivary Park were opened early.

I runfess that it never crossed my mind to  do a hotel room workout, even though I had just used the J&J 7 Minute app in my hotel room in Chicago. I didn’t even do a single plank.

I runfess that while I enjoyed running from a different end of D.C. when I was at a conference this week, I welcomed every red light for a short break during my 3 and 4 miles runs.

I also made a few photo stops.

I runfess that I decided not to run the Reston Perfect 10 this weekend. I was going to sign up for the 10K, but decided to sell my (discounted) race pass to someone who’s more excited about it.

I runfess that I am on the fence about the Richmond Half in November. I’ve already registered and paid $$$ for VIP access for me and my husband (so he won’t have to be freezing while I run), but the prospect of running for 2+ hours seems daunting when I am struggling with 3 miles these days. I’m goign to give training a seroius effort for the next few weeks and see if I can get to a point where running sucks less.

How have you gotten over a running slump?

As I am also in a running slump, I feel you! The idea of running a half right now is overwhelming. Also, I just don’t have the desire to run that far anymore. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO US?! :p

Personally I think it’s A-ok to not run if you’re not feeling inspired. A physical and mental break from it isn’t the end of the world and will likely be beneficial. Since finishing out the Majors I’ve been in much the same place. I’m all about shorter distances and no pace pressure these days. Vivary Park looks so lush and gorgeous! Thanks for linking up!

  3. You know I am in a running slump too. I also have a sigh of relief when we hit a red light on a 4 mile run. My next big one is Jingle all the way so 2 months to get my but in gear. If you decide not to do Richmond, I am going to do a big birthday run/breakfast that weekend. Hard to imagine it will be cold then!

I think we always have the best intentions to run/workout while traveling for work, but sometimes its just not possible 🙁

I think that the super humid summer definitely could be part of your running slump. I say don’t worry about it too much – when you want to run again, that passion will come back. Also it’s good to take a step back sometimes. See what October brings – you may get back your mojo and have a great time in Richmond!

  5. Well I’m glad I didn’t sign up for Richmond since it seems the two people I know doing it may not do it! Can you defer it?

There hasn’t been a whole lot of running here, either, for obvious reasons, although I’ve still managed to maintain a short long run, LOL.

That park looks amazing! I had plans to walk yesterday while visiting my parents, but yup, rain. I still managed to get in about 9000 steps despite almost 5 hours in the car, partially thanks to a dogwalk before I left.

  6. Oh no! I’ve totally been there. I’d say skip the half if you don’t feel up for it. Maybe you can defer it to next year. Hopefully the break will do you good and you’ll feel energized for some great winter running!

I think we all need a big break at some point. I was in a major slump for the majority of this year. Just lately my mojo has returned and I’ve been more consistent with running. But my gosh…it’s still 100 here almost every day. It that doesn’t change soon, I’ll be slumping again.

  8. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Sorry the slump has continued ;-( I bet the mojo will return when the time is right; probably best not to force it. You do such an amazing job with all your cross-training, though, you’re probably in better ‘cardio” shape than you realize 😉

  9. I’m sorry to hear you have been feeling that way about running. I hope it gets better. VIP is such a great experience. I wouldn’t want you to pass that opportunity up. Goodluck in your training within the next few weeks.
