Stressed For Success

As I’m writing this, I’m decidedly not stressed, but this was one of those weeks when my stress level was running high. Luckily it was all work stress–which I’m pretty good at compartmentalizing–but I’m blaming it for the knots in my back that kept me from doing Conte’s bike ride.

If you saw last week’s Weekly Wrap post, you know last week was a busy week too. This week wasn’t quite as eventful, but it had its moments.  Continue reading

Five Summer Workout Tips

Summer weather arrived with a vengeance this week, and along with the change of seasons I am making changes to my workout schedule. Last week I ran my last race until September (did you see my Lawyers Have Heart recap?) and now I am turning my full attention to the hills I will face in Lancaster, Pennsylvania when I do the Farm to Fork Fondo at the end of July.

Summer Workout Tips

Today’s Friday Five theme is Summer Running Tips, so I’m sharing five ways I’m changing things up for summer and my summer workout tips. Visit the link up at Running On Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for more great ideas.

2017 Lawyers Have Heart Race Recap

This weekend I wrapped up my spring (?) racing season with the 2017 Lawyers Have Heart 10K. I was feeling run down after my week of tough workouts last week, and really cut back in the days leading up to the race. I think that paid off since I ran my second-fastest Lawyers Have Heart ever!

2017 Lawyers Have Heart 10K

Although I was able to ease up on my workouts, the rest of my week was not easy. Monday I had an oral argument. Tuesday I got my son and his girlfriend off to Germany for two months of “studying” abroad. Wednesday I spoke on a legal panel hosted by The Atlantic and filmed at The Newseum. Thursday I had an all-day meeting with an expert witness from England. Friday I had to say farewell to a colleague who is moving to North Carolina. And then Friday night I realized that the race started at 7:00 instead of 7:30!

Getting My Head In The Game

I’ve heard all the sayings and pinned my favorite memesThe Body Achieves What The Mind Believes, She Believed She Could And She Did, Determination Makes The Impossible Possible–but it’s only recently that I’ve really appreciated the importance of getting my head in the game. It came to me after my first attempt at the hilly Conte’s group bike ride, as I was reliving my fall going up the N. Quincy Street hill.  I realized that the moment I looked up and thought there was no way I would make it to the top was the moment my legs just stopped, causing me to fall over.

getting my head in the game
A rainy weekend and a trip to Colorado kept me off my bike for a few weeks, and as the days went by, the ride got scarier, the hills got steeper, and the climbs got longer. I wasn’t even sure if I would show up again.

A Week Of Tough Workouts

These past few days have been busy around here. I joined the Friday Five Link Up to explain why I am supporting the American Heart Association in the Lawyers Have Heart 10K this weekend. I hosted the Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up and shared my overseas Starbucks sightings. Today I’m joining the Weekly Wrap Link Up (guest hosted by Mary Beth at TutusAndTennies), and in a few days I’ll be joining Deb’s Wednesday Word Link Up. After that, it will be almost time for the Friday Five again! Despite all this blogging, I also managed a week of tough workouts.
