Jumping Into July

Even though my hip really isn’t any better than it was last week, knowing that it’s probably just a soft tissue injury that will get better without surgery has me nearly jumping with joy. Now I just have to be patient, which we all know is hard, but not as hard as post-op rehab.

Happy July 4th!

The last two weeks of June were exhausting, with three business trips and a family trip to Florida. I didn’t do a lot of exercising, but I also didn’t do a lot of relaxing—or get much sleep. My hotels were fine, but I never sleep as well as I do at home in my own bed. I am ready to jump into July with a more normal routine—once I get through my quick trip to SFO this week—if a cross-country trip can ever be “quick”.

Jamming Out June

Monday was the only day of my Florida trip that I had time for a hotel gym workout. When I first checked out the gym the smell of air freshener was overwhelming, but after a few minutes, I didn’t notice it.

This gym has a full set of weights, so after I warmed up with a 10 min treadmill walk I did a few short strength workouts.

That second walk was to and from the Starbucks!

Tuesday I kept my Pel0ton streak going with an airport walk. I had visions of walking Scooby later, but once I got home I was sucked into some work things, so airport walking was it for the day.

Jumping Into July

Wednesday I was glad to be back to my Scooby walks and basement gym time. I did have to go into the office, but had time for a stack of short workouts and 20 min Peloton ride.

Thursday I was working from home around my orthopedist appointment so I had a bit more time. I have not taken any of Greta Dopp’s yoga or pilates classes, but after taking the two-for-one 🇨🇦 Canada Day 🇨🇦 ride with Greta and Emma I might check them out. I liked Greta’s fun, bubbly personality and her honest revelation that she finds Tony Horton’s coffee to be “mid”. 🫢

Friday I decided to get back to PT exercises with Tunde’s glute bridge/clamshell/leg lift class, and then hopped on my bike for a 30 min CVV class — I always love his playlists. OTOH, while I liked the format of Ben’s Arms + Light Weights class, I did not like The Prodigy, so I probably won’t take it again.

🇺🇸July 4th 🇺🇸 started off warm and humid—I was even sweaty after just walking Scooby! I  took Peloton’s special July 4th Summer Blast strength class and finished that just in time to take Matt Wilper’s ride live.

I don’t like the format of the holiday strength classes—10 min AMRAPs are too long. I compromised by doing each of the three AMRAP for 1/2 the time, and then finishing out the block with one of my PT exercises. I honestly think I ended up with a more well-rounded workout. 🤷‍♀️

Since we are in the midst of a record-setting heat wave, it’s not the worst time to be sidelined from running, but I am going to have to dig deep to stay patient. Hopefully next weekend will be cool enough to go hiking. 😎

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Do you use air freshener at home?

Oh a hike! Yes, let’s hope you will get cooler weather for that!
10 minute AMRAPs can be very long! Yesterday, I had an 8-minute squat session and I thought I was going to scream!
