Some September Runfessions

Forgive me runners. It’s been two months since my last runfession. Thank goodness Marcia always welcomes us back to the runfessional. I am more than ready to cleanse my sous soles before we head into October.

Doesn’t this track look so inviting?

I’m also joining the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.

Some September Runfessions

runfess, I am not loving running in the dark. Even though I have a good headlamp, I am lucky if I complete a run without stumbling over random debris on the sidewalk or having to stop and peer into the shadows to figure out what Scooby has spotted—a fox? a person? do they have a dog? Will I get used to it? Will I opt for my tread for the next few months?

I runfess, exacerbating my o’dark-thirty running woes is mounting pressure to go into the office more frequently. I get it, but I still don’t wanna, especially now that I have to leave earlier to beat traffic—which cuts into my morning workout time.

I runfess, a few weeks ago I started experiencing pain in my left hip (?), mostly after running, but I also feel it after sitting too long at my desk. It doesn’t hurt while I’m running, although sometimes I notice a slight tightness in the same area. It got really acute last week, but before I had time to call Deborah’s orthopedist, it got better overnight—mostly. Since then it’s flared up after a run, but then been better by the next day. Do these things every really go away as quickly as they arise? A runner can dream ….

This one hit close to home.

I runfess I have not been interested in an Apple Watch since they first came out, but now ….

It’s really the new GPS features that have me intrigued—asking what lane of a track you’re in to improve accuracy? Wow! I runfess, with all the reports of women being harassed and attacked on their runs, the siren button is a selling point too. Maybe when they come out with a smaller model—hopefully with a smaller price.

Deborah and I will be hosting the October Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday, October 7th!

Are you intrigued by the Apple Watch Ultra?

I don’t run in the dark. It is a bummer because I will no longer have time to run before work.

My lower back aches and I know it’s from sitting all day. I have no choice since I’m tied to a computer.

I hope yours is not an injury.

I have one of the first Apple watches. I love it. But still I prefer my Garmin for running.

  2. Marcia says:

I don’t envy you with that dark running one bit. Not my fave at all. I agree about the Apple watch. I’ve never been interested until now. I’ve been thinking that when my Fenix bites the dust I may replace with with an Apple. We’ll see.

    • Coco says:

My Fenix is still going strong, but I mostly wear my Venu Sq, which is an Apple look-alike. It could be a while if I waited for them to die.

  3. Jenny says:

Nope, not a fan of dark running. I’ve been able to avoid it lately, for the most part- I’m usually out just as the sun is rising (although that will be later and later, until we turn the clocks back.) At least you have Scooby to keep you company!
Ha ha, that cartoon is HILARIOUS. I think September really has been the “curse of the glutes” (as Kim said in my comments one day) for a bunch of us. It sounds like yours is getting better… I hope so!

    • Coco says:

Scooby is a mixed blessing with running. He might keep people away, but he also might try to drag me after a cat or group of deer.

  4. Catrina says:

Haha, that cartoon speaks to me, too! I think I will never learn.
I hope that the hip pain will disappear again.
Maybe you should see that orthopedist all the same, just in case?

Home office is so convenient! I hope you don’t have to go in every day, that would be really cumbersome.

    • Coco says:

They are pushing for at least 3 days a week. I’m trying to commit to 2 — I’ve always got such good reasons to WFH. 😉

  5. Michelle says:

Ugh I hope your hip pain goes away quickly – seems to be a trend lately 🙁

I’m not a fan of running in the dark either and am also facing the need to go into the office more…sigh.

  6. That cartoon is golden…and I’m pretty sure all of my job-runner friends couldn’t agree more. Yes, the o’dark running is back for the next seven (?) months. Unfortunately, it’s my reality during the work week.

  7. Wendy says:

I just got a new Apple Watch–the SE, which doesn’t have the features that intrigue you. My old one died. I am a loyal Garmin user and don’t care for the Apple fitness functions. So there you go…

I sure hope your hip calms down!

  8. Renée says:

Never used to have any issue running in the dark. but now…? since we moved (almost 2 years ago now!!) I don’t have a “regular” round that I feel super safe/ familiar with. Where we used to live I used to just do the “big round” around the park two times, so not in the park but on the streets around it and that would be 6KM. Where we live now it’s too dark, too hilly and in some places a little dodgy. Or maybe I’m just spooked by all the bad stuff that has happened to women on a run in the last couple of years?

I don’t think I could get an Apple Watch, simply because I cannot justify the cost. Though I did just buy a new Garmin 245 when my Vivo is still in perfectly good working order… I don’t know… I can hardly justify that either haha!

really hope your hip thing doesn’t turn into something worrisome!!

I have a fun runfession for you specifically :). I’ve been listening a lot to an 80’s playlist on Spotify and there is a song on there by the Stranglers (you know, of Golden Brown fame?) called Skin Deep. And the line goes “Better watch out for the skin deep” – BUT, I swear EVERY. DANG. TIME. I hear “Better watch out for the Scooby” haha! And apparently I’m not the only one! Many people have misheard “Scooby” or “Scoobies” instead of Skin Deep. Now you have to go listen to it 😀

  9. Jenn says:

I am with you. I never really cared about the Apple watch, but I kind of want one. Hmmm.

    I’m sorry you’re hurting.

  10. I don’t think I’d be running in the dark even with a headlamp; I’m sorry that you have to!

I have some high hamstring ache that comes and goes (only on one leg). I often feel it towards the end of the run. Thankfully on my 10 miler it was completely AWOL — and I don’t know why! I hope that your hip calms down soon.

I’m a Garmin girl through and through. I’ve been wearing Garmin since I first got a GPS watch. So all my data is there! Really never even looked at an Apple watch.

    • Coco says:

I’m a Garmin girl too, but the GPS does suck in NYC and Chicago with the tall buildings. If I lived in either of those cities I’d be really tempted to get this Apple watch.

  11. With the sun setting so much earlier, it seems that once I can run again, I’ll be out there at night! I don’t mind it, but I probably should start wearing a headlamp for extra safety!

I’m not an Apple person, BUT I hope they make some watches in smaller sizes! I just think a lot of the smartwatches are way too bulky!

I hope your hip feels better! That cartoon is telling too much truth!

  12. yes, running in the dark would be a no go for me! I hear the new apple watches are much better for running data. Go for it
