I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving, scored whatever deals you were looking for on Black Friday, and also found time to #optoutside. I did a little bit of everything over the holiday, except for eating, which I did a lot of. 🙂
Celebrating Thanksgiving
We had a relatively quiet Thanksgiving. My son was home for the weekend, and my Mom and sister-in-law came over for the day. I don’t always go to church on Thanksgiving, and almost changed my mind about going this year, but luckily I went because apparently at some point I’d agreed to be a reader!
The reading from Joel was fitting for Thanksgiving.
My son and his girlfriend wanted to do most of the cooking,
but I couldn’t resist adding my touches to the top crust of the apple pie.
We enjoyed quite a feast.
But missed my daughter, who stayed in Colorado
and cared for the animals at Luvin Arms.
Maybe we’ll face a traditional vs. vegan menu showdown next year.
I started Black Friday with my favorite post-Thanksgiving breakfast, and then bundled up to take Scooby for a run to #optoutside.
In the afternoon, I did more errands than shopping, but took advantage of a few on-line deals. Is there really a difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday these days?
Wrapping Up Thanksgiving Week
So, what did I do this week to burn off some of my Thanksgiving feasting? I’m not doing the math, but here’s my recap for the Weekly Wrap hosted by Holly and Wendy.
Monday: Orange Theory Fitness
I debated making Monday a light day, but it was my only chance to workout with Coach Brandon this week, so I sucked it up and set that 4:15 alarm . The treadmill block was another tough one: 6.5 minutes of coached running (2 min at push pace, 2 min at base pace, 2 min at push pace, 30 sec at all-out pace), and then after a 2 minute walking recovery break, 6.5 minutes of running at your own pace, but trying to match the distance from the first block.
The unauthorized Garmin app is based on the old heart rate zones,
so it shows fewer splat points than my OTF data.
Tuesday:Â CycleBar with Aimee.
Wednesday: 5 Scooby Miles
Working at home meant I could wait for daylight to take Scooby for a run. I thought we were running pretty fast, but was too bundled up to check my Garmin until we were done.
Thursday: Strength Workout + many hours on my feet
I didn’t do much cooking, but still managed to spend all day puttering in the kitchen and keeping up with the dishes.
Friday: 6.5 Scooby Miles
It was in the 20s when I got up, and it took coffee and breakfast to muster the courage to bundle up for a run. Once I was outside, I was fine, though. I wore the right layers, there was no wind, and the sun even peeked out a bit.
Scooby was even faster on this run!
Saturday: Core Power Yoga
I was debating another run, but a fierce charlie horse Friday night told me my legs needed a break–or a different type of workout. This class focused on back opening moves–starting with supported fish pose–but included plenty of downward-facing-dogs to stretch out my calves.
Sunday: 27.5 mile bike ride
I knew it was supposed to be warm on Sunday but didn’t expect it to be 60F after we had a high of 28F on Friday. We took advantage of the balmy weather and prioritized a bike ride over our weekend chores.
And that’s a wrap!
We seem to be leap-frogging on weather LOL After a few days of “warm” weather, we’re back to the winter yuck. Reality bites. Your Thanksgiving food looks amazing. I’ve been fueling on leftover turkey and bread the past three mornings 😉
Yes, I do think you pass your weather on to us! I love Thanksgiving leftovers! Give me all the stuffing!!
So glad that you had a nice Thanksgiving. Your pie does look very pretty and I am not a pie person at all! I also had a great C2 class this week on Friday. It was a perfect day for a ride today I should have gone out. Have a great week!
I really didn’t want to go out, but I’m so glad I did. It was amazing, especially after our frigid weather on Thursday and cold rain yesterday.
What a lovely pie! And I really like your shadow bikie!
Thanks! The photo was a fun way to pass my time while my husband adjusted his bike seat. 😉
I’m so jealous of your warmer temps. We were warmer . . . a very dreary 40. But at least the dogs got walks again!
I was kind of amazed at how many miles I ended up racking up just in my home (not on the treadmill) on Thanksgiving.
I know I have to “seize the day” when we get nice weather on the weekend. Yesterday was miserable!
I hear you. I’m not sure we’ll really have a nice day until spring, assuming we get one this year, but one can hope. 🙂
I’m pretty jealous of your warm temps. We’re having a good old fashioned blizzard with projected totals of 10-12 inches. We’ll see. But it’s only November. Climate change anyone?
Oh my gosh! That is crazy. No, you know there can’t be global warming if it’s cold (jk).
Wow! You and Scooby had some very impressive paces this week. It is awesome that your son cooked Thanksgiving dinner. What a treat! I was happy mine did chores and decorated. I’m very jealous of your balmy bike ride. My bike is still put away as we show our house. Sigh. Thanks for linking!
Well, he won’t be around for the tree decorating, so I think we’re even! I hope your home selling stress is over soon!
That looks like a great meal. I had a little bit of everything and didn’t need seconds.
I had to have more turkey. 😉
You had a nice variety of workouts this week. Isn’t it great when our kids take over the cooking chores for holidays? My youngest son cooked Thanksgiving dinner this year. All I had to bring were the pies. What a relaxing treat! Hubby and I got to run Thursday morning, rather than frantically trying to get everything put together.
That’s great! It was so cold I didn’t want to run, but Scooby had his walk of course.
What a lovely week you had! And that pie looks delicious. I always love the variety of classes and workouts that you fit in, such a great balance!
Thanks! I think the variety keeps me motivated. And the pie. Need to get hungry for more pie. 😉
Sounds like a very nice Thanksgiving! You had a great mix of workouts – jealous of your “tropical” temps!
Black Friday, Cyber Monday, it all blends together. Especially some stores like Kohls that just need an “Hey, the day ends in Y” reason for a sale.
Your breakfast looks amazing — and yay for not having to read at church via FaceTime or some such
Great job with all your workouts! Glad that the Scooby miles are going so well!
I forgot all about Cyber Monday, now I’m getting all these “damn emails”, haha! I didn’t really see any good deals on Black Friday.
A vegan/traditional Thanksgiving showdown would be very interesting…I get side-eyes just for cooking veggies period!
LOL. My husband doesn’t like vegetables, which makes vegetarian menus difficult!
Glad that you had such an awesome Thanksgiving! I love how involved you are in your church. It really makes me hope that I find a church home soon. It’s so hard to find a church that’s a perfect fit when there are so many to choose from.
It is hard to find a good fit but I got lucky. I’m not really that involved in my church, but I do attend regularly, love reading lessons, and am in the group that serves dinner at the homeless shelter.
Wow I’m coveting your 60 degree temps. I was thrilled with 35. That is one fine looking pie. I fought hard to not make an apple pie for Thanksgiving but I went with MIL’s cookies. ; )
I love cookies, so I’d probably be OK with that.
Sounds like a great week! That’s nice that your son and his girlfriend wanted to do most of hte cooking 🙂 The food looks delicious.
It was scrumptious!
It’s crazy how much the weather fluctuated this week! Looks like a nice Thanksgiving. I agree there doesnt seem to be a difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday anymore. Although I do more online shopping on Black Friday since Im back to work on Monday!
And by Monday I’m just annoyed by all the SALE emails!
Sounds like a great holiday! I wish I had a son who wanted to do most of the cooking! Apparently no one in my family except me can cook!
Funny, when you said your daughter was staying home to care for animals, my immediate thought was that I wondered if she was vegan. I’d love to see your vegan showdown results next year!
My son loves to cook. My husband, not so much! Yes, my daughter has been vegan for 2 years now. She’s very dedicated to it!
