Good Friday Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month and the last Friday of Lent, so I ‘m grateful for the opportunity to cleanse my sweaty soles before heading to church for Good Friday services.

March Runfessions

Link up your own Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice  and don’t forget to check out the Friday Five link up hosted at Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness  Also, Deborah and I would love to see you at our Ultimate Coffee Date link up next weekend.

Good Friday Runfessions

I runfess that when I heard the Cherry Blossom race directors had to make some course adjustments due to construction, I was hoping the Hains Point loop would get cut out–or at least cut short. That’s not to be, but now that the peak bloom prediction falls around race day, I am hoping those three miles will at least be pretty next weekend.

They were in peak bloom for the 2015 race

Speaking of the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile run, today at work I’m sponsoring a “jeans day” to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through my Cherry Blossom donation page. If you get to wear jeans–or yoga pants–today please consider making a donation to this great cause.

I runfess that I am getting bored with my PT exercises and stretches. Holding each stretch for 45 seconds takes a long time. Even some of the exercises involve 10-30 second holds, which get tedious. But, I’m sucking it up and sticking it out because they are working.

my 15 minute stretching routine.

I bikefess that with all my talk about participating in the Contes Hill Ride for the past few weeks, I still haven’t made it. It’s either been too cold (I’m holding out for the low 40s ) or I’ve had other things take priority on Saturday morning. I really hope I can make it tomorrow, because I need to get ready for those Lancaster hills of the Farm to Fork Fondo–Pennsylvania Dutch at the end of June.

I OTFfess that I never intended to give up Orange Theory Fitness for Lent, but it almost worked out that way. Between my business trips, grueling work schedule, getting sick, and then our spring snow day, I only went once since Ash Wednesday. As much as I missed the workouts, I didn’t miss that 4:15 am alarm ….

Speaking of Lent, I confess that while it was inconvenient giving up meat for Lent,  I’m not sure I’m ready to have ham for Easter supper–or even bacon for Easter brunch. My perspective has changed since my daughter started working at an animal sanctuary.

As much as I love bacon …

What are you runfessing today?

Are you experiencing spring weather yet?

    Happy Good Friday!!

Sometimes I feel the same way about my stretching routine, but like you said, it works!

Totally understand what you mean about giving up meat. I have been meat-free since the new year. While my perspective has definitely changed, Iโ€™ll be going back to eating meat starting Sunday, but I will be eating it in way less quantities, thatโ€™s for sure.

  2. I’m glad the stretching routine is working, but those holds can definitely take a long time! Hopefully as you improve you can cut some of those things out and only do them when you need them.
I think it would be really hard to give up meat completely just because I’m so used to it. During Lent I didn’t eat it on Fridays and my husband and I struggled to figure out meal ideas. I give you alot of credit for being able to do it all through Lent!

  3. Wendy says:

I don’t eat a lot of meat, but I do need it in my diet for protein! I’m not good at sacrificing anything….

I’d love to do Cherry Blossom! Looks so pretty.

    • Coco says:

I ate a lot of fish, a bit of tofu and tons of legumes …. The timing on the race is always a gamble but this year looks like we might hit the jackpot.

  4. I am not a big fan of ham but I do like bacon. 15 minutes does sound like a long time to do some stretches. Maybe that is why I am so bad at doing them. I am not that patient…haha.

  5. Oh the Cherry Blossom 10-miler! I hope to someday make an appearance there! The blossoms were coming to life a year ago when we were in DC for that one fast-paced day over Spring Break, and it was so beautiful!

  6. Rachel says:

    Aww, that’s a cute piggy!

Why don’t you like Hains Point? I might be one of those rare people that doesn’t mind it. Lol. People complain about it with MCM, too. I guess the first year I ran it it was fairly boring. But the second time around I rather enjoyed it.

    • Coco says:

I think it’s a mind game at this point. It’s three whole miles with not much change in scenery and sparse crowd support? I need to figure out a different approach to it!

  7. Spring weather = major fail in these parts. We have had a nice day here & there, but it’s actually been seasonable — which means it’s still on the chilly side.

I would probably be a vegetarian if it weren’t for my husband. I keep making vegetarian meals for him, too, on occasion. Some he likes (but it would be better with meat according to him) and others he eats out of desperation . ๐Ÿ™‚

Running a race with actual cherry blossoms in bloom sounds really pretty! I plan to run a race at the end of the month which is named Cherry Blossom, but I’m not sure what that looks like up here.

I just can’t wait until actual cherries start arriving in stores . . .

    • Coco says:

Yeah, my husband is ready to get back to normal meals. Although I learned this week he’d rather eat tofu than most vegetables. :-0

  8. I am sensing a vegetarian in the making ๐Ÿ™‚ I am getting psyched for Cherry Blossom but I have no idea what to wear bc our crazy weather keeps flip flopping!

    • Coco says:

I’m pretty sure my race outfit will be a game-day decision. Can you believe we got my husband to eat tofu this week?!

  9. Not really spring yet – but I feel confident we are getting closer! I have abandoned my bike too lately if it makes you feel better. I miss it! Will do better next month (I hope)

  10. Oh I runfession I’m really tired of my PT exercises as well but if I don’t do them I feel like I’m heading right back to my injury!!!

  11. Its supposed to look like spring this upcoming week, but I am doubtful. Enjoy your ham on Easter and have a great weekend.

  12. Eating meat is something I do every day and something I feel extremely guilty for. I try not to think about it, which is a good strategy for me. (I’m not telling you this to give you advice, not at all! I feel very hypocritical about my feelings and still eating meat.)

I wonder if some day I will give it up.

    • Coco says:

That’s what usually works for me, but my daughter’s values are rubbing off. I’m still torn on what to do come Sunday …

  13. I hope the blossoms cooperate for CBTM! PT exercises can be so tedious, but I’m really glad they’re working for you. I’m really tired of doing my exercises too – but my pain-free runs are making it worth it!

    Happy Easter!

  14. I need to do your PF stretches, I’m glad they are working for you! I will runfess that I haven’t been working as hard as I should to get rid of my knee and foot pain :(.

I’m so thankful for some warmer weather at last! This has been the longest winter ever!

  15. Andrea says:

Happy Good Friday!! Can I weightfess? I’m in full sabotage mode as far as my nutrition and weightlifting go… My kids are sick and I’ve been up at night taking care of them, so I’ve skipped my workouts. Because I’m so tired, I am eating whatever is easy to grab, which is junk food. And instead of buckling down and focusing on what I need to do to move the needle forward on various blogging and professional projects, I find myself doing extra cleaning and tedious tasks that fill my time, but do little or nothing to fulfill my goals. Le sigh…

    • Coco says:

Oh, gosh, I know just how it is to be tired and crave junk — and give in to those cravings. I did go on a cleaning spree when I was avoiding doing our taxes ….

  16. Chrissy says:

That cherry blossom race looks incredible. It’s definitely a bucket list race for me to do at some point.

I start PT next week for a slipped disc issue in my back. I’m not looking forward to all the repetitive exercises but I AM looking forward to getting back to a normal training routine again! Esp since I might have a race at the end of this month to do.

    • Coco says:

Oh, I hope PT has you feeling better soon. I don’t mind doing the exercises there – it’s the discipline to do them at home that is waning.

  17. I think it would be so fun to run amongst the cherry blossoms! I’m glad the timing worked out for the race. As for the meat issue, I would eat a 20 ounce steak every day if I could!

  18. Jenn says:

    OMG THAT PIGGY!!!!!

I’m not a vegetarian, but I could be. Unfortunately, the older I’ve gotten, the more my body seems to need the meat, and I just can’t make up for the iron and protein in other ways. It would be hard if I worked at an animal sanctuary, though.

I would love to run Cherry Blossom. I have yet to see the blossoms in peak season, and it’s on my list of things I need to do.

45 seconds is an excrutiatingly long time to have to hold a stretch. I don’t know how you’ve been doing it!

    • Coco says:

I know, isn’t he cute! I don’t think I’ve missed the protein, but I do eat a lot of eggs, fish, and legumes. I probably should watch my iron levels if I keep it up though. I have to use a timer on my phone to make sure I don’t skimp on the stretches!

  19. We’re getting some spring weather finally in San Diego and I’m so thankful!

Cherry Blossom is definitely on my bucket list!

  20. Chelsea says:

Happy Good Friday!!! We’ve been having Spring weather for a while now. I live in Arkansas and I think it forgot what Winter even was this year…we had one snow and that was it! I’m not complaining though, BUT our Summers are brutal so it just is what it is! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Have a great weekend girly!!!

  21. Renรฉe says:

My husband does a lot of stretching routines for his back and piriformis. Sometimes he is just totally over it but, like with you, it works so you do kind of have to suck it up I guess. 45 seconds holding a stretch is reallllly long.

in the Netherlands we have spring one day, then fall, then winter and then back to spring but with monsoon winds ๐Ÿ˜€ Today is good. We just always hope to wake up and have the weather be decent! I ran in a short sleeve top today! was cold at the start but during intervals FABULOUS, perfect temp for running. And the tulips and daffodils are coming out everywhere. I love spring here ๐Ÿ™‚

We don’t eat a lot of piggies anymore. Usually only from the bio-butcher where we know the animals have been treated humanely. And the price is much, much higher than the supermarket. So we have to have it less. It’s fine. For me bacon is now a treat and we don’t do anything for Easter, my husband and I, so I’ll have a few chocolate eggs and we’ll call it a day! haha!

    • Coco says:

I bet it is so beautiful there!

45 seconds is long. but I think Rachel explained that 30 seconds is the minimum time to hold a stretch for it to be effective, and my PT says 30-45 sec, so I’m trying to do it right!

  22. Marcia says:

Awww what a sweet pic of your daughter! For years my 12 yo daughter has eaten very minimal meat and has always asked the tough questions like “what animal is this? Was it killed to eat?” etc. I know she’s a vegetarian/vegan waiting to happen and I totally get it. I feel you on PT exercise fatigue. They get really old! Thanks for linking!

    • Coco says:

Yeah, those same questions cross my mind. I can compartmentalize, but …. Always love to participate in runfessions!

  23. Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says:

I love your stretching routine! I am trying to be better about doing mine too as it is so helpful!!

  24. Esther says:

I also saw they changed the course for the Cherry Blossom race. I ran it a few years ago and although the weather was beautiful, I always miss the blossoms! My dad lives in the area and I always happen to visit a week before or after they bloom!
I hope you are able to get your rides in. I used to bike often in the hills of PA, and they are no joke!
    Happy Easter!
