Hotel Gym Physical Therapy Workouts

It seems like once a year I have a business trip from heck, and this week was that week. I would be just landing in one city when I got a check-in alert for my next flight the next day. And, while my itinerary included great cities for running, my hotels were in business districts along freeways, so I mostly stuck with hotel gyms.

The view out my hotel window of the office I was visiting.

Being in a running desert was frustrating, but probably good for my plantar fasciitis. I finally feel like it is getting betting for real–fingers crossed!

Weekly Wrap

Monday: 6 mile run, Physical Therapy
Monday I was still at home, and went out for a 6 mile run before physical therapy.

I didn’t quite beat the rain, but it wasn’t too bad.

Tuesday: Rest Day
I’m so bad at rest days, I was stressing over how to fit in a quick workout before my cab came at 5:45 am, but realized that a rest day really was the right option.

Wednesday: Strength workout focusing on my physical therapy exercises

This hotel gym in Palo Alto had some fun equipment.

Thursday: 30 min treadmill run + physical therapy exercises
I did a progressive run on the treadmill, including 1 mile at 7.0 mph, 1 mile at 7.5 mph, and 2 min at 8.0 mph.

This summary doesn’t tell the story!

Friday: Strength workout focusing on my physical therapy exercises

Hotel Gym Physical Therapy Workouts

The fitness center in the Salt Lake City Hilton City Center takes up a huge corner of the building, but is divided into two small workout rooms on different ends of the pool. Since the “weight room” was busy, I did my physical therapy exercises in the “cardio” room, and rounded out my routine with some core moves.

Saturday:  Strength workout focusing on my physical therapy exercises
The hotel gym was a lot emptier on Saturday morning, so I did my working in the “weight” room, although I still spent most of my time on my physical therapy exercises.

Hotel Gym Physical Therapy

My exercise bands fit easily in my carry on suitcase.

Sunday: 8 mile run
I finally put all that running gear in my suitcase to use. I wasn’t psyched about running from my hotel, but after I realized I could plan an 8 mile run to this park and back, I sucked it up, bundled up, and headed at the door. Of course it was worth it!

It felt like I was risking frostbite to take this picture!

My travels will continue this week. Although I will be home for a few hours (literally) on Tuesday, I won’t be sleeping in my own bed until Thursday.

I’m linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap

I’m also participating in the Cherry Blossom Training Link Up that Heather is hosting.

Do you take any fitness gear with you when you travel?

I don’t know how you do all that traveling. I bet working out helps keep you sane.

Oh hell yeah, that cold run was worth it! Gorgeous.

  2. Every time I travel I always bring work out clothes with me. I feel so guilty when I don’t end up using it. Like it was a waste of space since I always carry on. I bet that 8 mile run felt great afterwards.

  3. You are great for staying so active no matter if you’re at home or traveling. Your 8-miler sounds fun, despite the temps.

  4. HoHo Runs says:

Great job staying active with all your travels. I’m curious, do you base your hotel selection on the gym? Or does the corporate world decide where you stay? At least you were rewarded with a gorgeous view on your cold 8 miler! I hope your PF settles down for real now. Thanks for linking!

You really did an awesome job of getting in workouts while traveling. It looks like the hotels had pretty good gyms which is always super helpful!

  6. All of your travel looks exhausting! My husband has weeks like that it’s exhausting. You really kept up your workouts despite being everywhere. Glad your PF is better and hope you have a better week

  7. Stay strong with the travel – you know I understand! It is so stressful and makes all the workouts harder but you are doing great!

  8. Lesley says:

Great job keeping up with your workouts. I do pack workout clothes if I have to travel for work. it’s a great way to unwind from everything.

Looks like you had some fancy hotel gyms to work out in! Hopefully the rest of your travels will be smooth sailing. Take care while you are out on the road!

  11. Hello Coco, your exercise schedule is awesome. Exercise is also a kind of physical therapy. If you workout daily without failure then, your joints and body muscle will definitely stay fit. Thanks For sharing this blog.

No matter where we are the possibilities to work out is endless. When I travel, I mainly do bodyweight exercises such as push-ups or squats in the hotel room.
