Summer Running On The Treadmill

Why I Love My Treadmill In The Summer

This is what I call treadmill weather.

This was the weather report at 5:30 am Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. If you think the weather got better because the temperature went down, please read the fine print. The humidity went from 67% on Tuesday to a whopping 84% on Thursday. That is just plain miserable.

On days like this, I am glad to have the option of running on the treadmill.

Saucony VirrataOn Tuesday, I did the 45 minute “triple threat” treadmill workout from Phase 3 of Tina’s BestBody Bootcamp. Keeping with the theme of 3s, it includes 3 minute intervals, which are that much harder than the 2 minute intervals I usually do!

On Thursday, I did a 50 min treadmill workout of my own, using my usual 2 min/1 min ratio. Since I let my husband walk the dog, I did a longer warm-up than usual:

Warm Up
3 min @ 3.7 mph (walking) (incline level 1.5)
3 min @ 5.7 mph (incline level 1.0)
3 min @ 6.0 mph (incline level 1.0)
3 min @ 6.2 mph (incline level 1.0)
3 min @ 6.3 mph (incline level 1.0)

Intervals
2 min @ 6.3 mph / 1 min @ 6.0 mph (incline level 0.5) (repeat 3X)
2 min @ 6.4 mph / 1 min @ 6.0 mph  (incline level 0.5) (repeat 3X)
2 min @ 6.5 mph / 1 min @ 6.0 mph  (incline level 0.5) (repeat 3X)
2 min @ 6.7 mph (incline level 0.5)

Cool Down
2 min @ 6.0 mph (incline level 0.5)
1 min @ 5.7 mph (incline level 0.5)
3 min @ 3.7 mph (walking) (incline level 1.5)

For both workouts, I decided to do my warm up at incline level 1.0 instead of 0.5 as usual. Since my left knee isn’t very happy with my recent speed intervals, I am trying to increase the intensity using incline instead of pace. I’ll let you know how that goes. 😉

Of course, working out on the treadmill doesn’t mean I’m not getting sweaty!

Running on the Treadmill

Since I exercise before work and need to have time for coffee and Facebook before I head out the door, I keep my “beauty” routine pretty simple. That’s one reason I am really loving the Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream from the Influenster SunVoxBox that I was sent to review.

Infleunster SunVox BoxIt’s a lotion, sunscreen and light concealer all in one.

It’s thick and creamy out of the tube, but absorbs quickly.

All cleaned up for work!

The SunVoxBox also included these other great products:

Influenster

I sent the Sinful Shine nail polish (a Walgreens exclusive) and Goody hair bands to my daughter, since they are more her style, but I definitely will use the Dr. Scholl’s inserts as soon as it gets cool enough for closed-toe shoes again!

Does the heat and humidity drive you inside for your workouts?

Do you change your “beauty” routine in the summer?

ohmygosh it's so hot! Can't take it. Only problem is that the A/C in the "gym" in our apartment building is not set cold enough (since no one is ever down there) so it feels almost as bad as running outside! And the A/C unit is locked so I can't get in there to change it.

  3. I love my treadmill when it's hot!! (and when it's cold!)
Awesome after run picture and then all prettied up!!
I'm all about a simple beauty (I'm not sure that term applies to what I do!) routine year round!

After this winter there is no way I am staying inside! I will dial back my workouts get up early or stay up late to run outside 🙂

I wish I had access to a treadmill! We're planning to buy one when we get moved in.. but I'm not part of a gym at my parent's house and the only option is to get up early. It's been slightly better than TX so that helps. I'm definitely a simple girl when it comes to getting ready for the day, too!
