Argumentative August Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month and nearly the unofficial end of summer–the perfect time to gather at Marcia’s runfessional and cleanse our souls soles before we head into fall. I’ve been arguing  with myself a lot lately, so maybe sharing my argumentative August runfessions will help me get over it.

Why do I feel like she’s running more than I am?

Also join me in the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.

Deborah and I will be hosting the September Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday September 3rd, and keep the coffee brewing.

Argumentative August Runfessions

It will come as no surprise that the biggest arguments I’m having with myself are about running. Should I even bother trying when I know my Achilles isn’t 100%? Is it worth it? But I runfess that as soon as I head out for even the shortest run I have to argue with myself to take it easy.

Scooby selfie

Scooby’s a good sport on my short runs

Speaking of [not] taking it easy, I runfess that while I did run-walk intervals on my first test run this week, I pretty much ran the whole 20 minutes the next time–not counting Scooby’s stops. I’m already wondering if I should go for 3 miles next week–never mind all the stretching and icing 2 miles requires. I know, I know.

I’ve also been arguing with myself over all the health appointments I still haven’t caught up with since the pandemic. Even though I’ve been “fully vaccinated” since May, I have yet to reschedule the dentist and ophthalmologist appointments that are long-overdue.  Yet I runfess I somehow managed to make an orthopedist appointment, podiatrist appointment, and countless physical therapy appointments to tend to my Achilles.

I finally made one doctor’s appointment this week–for October!–and then got a notice scheduling a work hearing for the same time. Since that can’t be changed, I’m back to square zero with my non-running-related health care. 😛

Farm to Fork Fondo selfie

If you saw my recap of last weekends Farm to Fork Fondo, my next bikefession will come as no surprise–This week I signed us up for the Shenandoah Farm to Fork Fondo in late October. Yes, I made all the arrangements–Fondo registration, hotel, and dog sitter–and still didn’t have time to call the dentist. 😉 The Shenandoah event doesn’t have whoopie pies, but they are promising cider donuts–no argument there!

Is there something you’re arguing with yourself over?

With the ridiculous heat and humidity we’ve had this summer, not running hasn’t been as traumatic as I thought! I feel you on not attending to my regular health issues, tho…I have been to the dentist but not my regular physician. She probably rolls her eyes every time the orthos I’ve seen send her consult notes, lol.

Exciting that you are doing another bike ride! i got my bike back, but I’m only riding in the trainer for now…

I have finally caught up on all the non running health appointments except for a colonoscopy. Not so ready to jump into that one! That is exciting to do another bike adventure. Will be gorgeous that time of the year and a lot cooler.

Oh, I’ve had that argument with myself about running many, many times! Getting to run is just too tempting- I say, if it’s not hurting (too much) then go for it! But I’m probably the devil on your shoulder here.
I’ve been okay about my non-running medical appointments, with the exception of the gynecologist. I haven’t had a pap test since my daughter way born (and she’s now 12.). My regular doctor is about to kill me, she’s so mad about this, so I might actually finally get this done in the fall.
Glad to hear you signed up for the FONDO- I’m looking forward to hearing all about it!

  4. My 2020 physical finally happened this past May, and my mammo a month ago. I’ve been to the dentist (April? or May?). I do need to schedule a follow-up with my podiatrist (he’d requested I come back in six months, and I last saw him in February). Oh, and I had that chiro appointment last week LOL I have not been to the optometrist in years, though. oops. Your Fondo rides sound SO fun! I wish we had those here…the rides I’ve seen are really short…like 20-30 miles, which seems short for a group event.

    • Coco says:

The weekly bike shop rides range from 20-40 miles. Our Fondo route was only 42 miles, but it was enough with the rolling hills and heat. There are a few metric centuries and centuries around in early fall.

  5. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

I hadn’t had a checkup with my primary care doc in a really long time so I finally got that appointment and a dentist appointment done over the past month – it was such a relief! It’s so funny about those arguments you have with yourself…I will argue in favor of you taking it easy on those runs! 😉

  6. I haven’t done the dentist, but I do have an eye dr appointment next week. I need to renew my license soonish, so I need a prescription from the eye dr to do it online (or so Mr. Judy tells me).

Luckily for me there are many activities I enjoy, running is just one. I’m a little better at taking time off when I need to.

I can imagine that fall ride is going to be fantastic!

    • Coco says:

Oh, interesting way to renew your DL on-line. I was able to renew mine on-line for just 2 years due to the pandemic. I’ll need to go through the RealID process next time.

  7. You are not alone on being behind on the non-running related health appointments. I’ve been to the dentist, but the mammo and colonoscopy remain unscheduled.

I’m behind in my blog reading so I’m off to read your Fondo recap now. Great that you have another adventure planned!

  8. I am caught up on my appointments except for a mammogram. I know, I know. I keep telling myself to do it and then get distracted and do something else. But I will get to it soon. That is exciting you signed up for another bike ride! I hope it is a fun one too!

  9. runswithpugs says:

Oh, I want a fresh apple cider donut!

I held off on appointments FOREVER. Now, A and I have been really good about our dental appointments, and he is getting his braces on this week.

I hope that Achilles starts cooperating soon.

  10. Cari says:

I think Scooby Stops should be an official pace.
I haven’t been back to the dermatologist yet, which I was just thinking about. Dental I kept roughly on schedule aside from when he was closed and eyeglasses just became necessary late last year. He’s walk in from the street so no elevator concerns
Cider donuts would totally get me on a ride

  11. Marcia says:

I am SO grateful I don’t have marathon-sized miles I need to run this summer. The weather has been soul sucking. Your bike rides look so fun!

  12. Darlene says:

This has been the most humid summer ever.

Hope your Achilles improves. It is hard not to run when you can.

I’d ride if there were cider donuts. Lol
