Home Alone On My Birthday

Some birthdays get big celebrations, other birthdays you spend home alone taking live Peloton classes.🤷‍♀️

Don’t worry, I felt the love from family and friends, even though the card from my son said “We’re going to need a bigger cake!” (to fit all the candles) and that birthday candle card (from my husband) is a singing fitness instructor getting me in shape to blow them all out. 🎂 🤣

Home Alone On My Birthday

So, how did I end up alone on my birthday? My son took my husband to the Ravens game! They felt bad it fell on my birthday, but I honestly didn’t mind. I know how lucky I am to have an adult son who wants to spend time with his father, and vice versa. Plus, the 8 pm game lasted well past my bedtime. My husband got home at 2 am—I’m way too old for that! 😉

Since I was working from home, I decided to let myself sleep until 6 am, but then I had to rush to walk Scooby and squeeze in two short strength classes before Adrian’s live Walk + Run at 7 am. I had an 8 am conference call, so I had to rush to put on a clean shirt and grab a cup of coffee before logging on at 7:55. 😉

In the evening I did two live blink-182 classes—Andy’s live strength class (my 1350th) and Camilla’s run. Both were so good!

After my conference call (and shower) I dashed out to Starbucks get my birthday treat.

It happened to be Red Cup day, but I didn’t want another plastic cup—or even coffee by that point—so I opted for a brownie.

I didn’t mind being home alone on my birthday—but I’m glad I got to celebrate with my family this weekend—and enjoy this amazing cake.

Underneath all the buttercream is rich devil’s food chocolate.

Weekly Run Down

My left hamstring is still improving, but also still nagging. My PT approved my scaled-down rehab plan, and cut me back to three hamstring exercises—hamstring curls (using the Bowflex), hamstring bridges on a fit ball, and RDLs. She also has me doing other strength and balance exercises—including those dang Copenhagen planks.

Neither my current ortho nor my current PT practice do ECP shockwave therapy, but my podiatrist said he could treat my hamstring. Now I have to decide if I want him to, knowing what I’d be in for. 😳 I’m 99% sure I’ll be making an appointment on Monday ….

Here’s a short recap of my workouts.

And a picture of Scooby from our “run”—he is so confused by the walk breaks!

He’s nearly camouflaged by the leaves!

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Happy birthday to my daughter, and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Happy belated birthday! Glad you made the most of it.

I had shockwave therapy on my plantar fascia years ago. While it was effective, ti was painful. So yes, I know what you’re in for. Fingers crossed that it works!

    Happy Birthday.

    It’s just one day.

It sounds like you celebrated well. That cake looks delish.

Hope your hammy continues to improve.

  3. I have had quite a few solo birthdays over the years. It can be nice & relaxing sometimes!

That cake! Amazing! I usually go for the sinful cupcake for potion control, LOL!

Good luck with the hamstring, hoping for continued improvement!

  4. Jessie says:

Oh sweet Scooby, great photo. I’m sorry you’re still struggling with the hamstring. I hope you see some improvement.

It sounds like you had a lovely birthday with lots of people sending their best! Happy birthday to you!

Oh, one more thing- my friend had shockwave on her hamstring and said its nowhere near as painful as the Achilles. I had it recently on my foot (some weird arch pain that might be plantar) and similarly it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as the Achilles. The Achilles was the WORST.

  5. Wow, that cake!!!! I did Camilla’s Blink 182 class yesterday (well, I listened to it while running outside). Thnx for the rec 🙂 Glad to hear the hammy is feeling better, that’s progress!

  6. Jenny says:

Happy Birthday!!! I also wouldn’t mind being along on my birthday, if that were the reason. Sounds like you still got plenty of celebrating in. That cake is beautiful!
Oh yes… I had shockwave therapy on my foot a couple years ago. It didn’t solve the problem completely but it got me back to running. Any amount of pain is worth it to get back to running!

  7. Deborah Brooks says:

Happy birthday to you-so many birthdays this week! Maybe the shockwave therapy is just what you need to finally get rid of your hamstring pain. At this point, I would try anything to be back running feeling good all the time. Let us know how it goes. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours

  8. Catrina says:

Haha, I hope your husband didn’t struggle with getting out of bed the next day! 2am would kill me, too!
I had that shockwave therapy on the Achilles and nearly died. So painful! But I hope that Jessie’s friend is right about the hamstring being less painful. Good luck!

  9. Marcia says:

Sometimes low key birthdays are amazing too. Glad you enjoyed it. That cake is exquisite! Love the pic of Scooby in the leaves!

  10. Susanne says:

Wow, that cake! It looks amazing!
Happy (belated) birthday! It sounds quite nice after all although you were alone.
I’m glad the hamstring is still ok and improving, at least. Hope the shockwave therapy helps and feels ok.

  11. Jenn says:

    Happy birthday to you!

You know, I wouldn’t have minded being alone, either. We can celebrate any time, and 2AM is a no go for me!

I did get a red cup on Red Cup day… it’s tradition at this point.

Beautiful cake. The cake game is strong among the bloggers this week!

  12. It is nice to do whatever you want on your birthday! What a beautiful cake. I got a red cup a few years ago and haven’t used it since, so I agree – not needed for me! Good luck on the shockwave treatment. I have never had that. I’m thankful my issues have all calmed down recently. That would be a great birthday gift if your hamstrings behaved!!
