Breakthrough Crew Bingo And Other Summer Motivation Hacks

With no races on my calendar and the Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo in my rear view mirror, I am relying on other summer motivation hacks to keep me excited about my workouts. Between the Peloton Breakthrough Crew bingo game, RunChat Hunt, and the Peloton strength program I’m doing, I’ve got all bases covered.

Summer Motivation Hacks

The moderators of the Peloton Breakthrough Crew (a Facebook group anyone can join) are so creative, and design fun challenges to keep us all motivated. For June, we are playing bingo. I love the variety and flexibility—even if I never get those 8 hours of sleep squares.

I deleted my Twitter account, but I still follow TheRunChat on Instagram. They just kicked off the summer edition of #RunChatHunt—a running photo scavenger hunt with fun prizes.

Not sure how I’ll get a photo of a cat running with Scooby ….

If you want to play along, the details are here

I also started the Pump Up The Volume strength program on the Peloton app. I enjoyed Rebecca’s classes and am looking forward to working out with Jess Sims next week. 🙂

Weekly Wrap

The big workout of the week was Sunday’s 60 mile Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo ride. After that, my legs needed a break, and I tried to give it to them!

Sunday: 60 Mile Farm to Fork Fondo Ride

Monday: 10 min Core + 20 min LB Strength + 30 min Tread Bootcamp
I wasn’t up for a run with Scooby, but by the time I was into my strength workouts, my legs were itching for a shakeout run. I took a 10 min warmup run on the tread and then one of Andy’s 30 min Tread Bootcamps. I used Kristin’s yoga class for a stretch.

Tuesday: 20 min SFR + 4.0 Scooby Miles + 10 min ALW + 10 min Core
Scooby was patient while I used a 20 min strength for runners class from the Breakthrough Crew bingo game as a pre-run warm-up. I took advantage of a work-from-home day and tacked on an arms and core class after our run.

Wednesday: 10 min Core + 20 min UB Strength + 40 min Peloton Ride
I had the office gym to myself the whole time—which was good because I used all the weights during this strength workout. I don’t have 12.5s at home, so they are a nice option for some of the arms moves.

Thursday: 5 min Core + 5.0 Scooby Miles
It was not a work-from-home day, but the weather was great so I decided to kick off June with a 5 mile run.

Friday: 5 min Core + 40 min FB Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride
I did the third class of the Pump up the Volume program and tacked on a bodyweight workout from the Breakthrough Crew bingo game. I got sweaty with Olivia’s Memorial Day ride.

Saturday: 3.95 Scooby Miles + 2.25 Tread Miles + Flash 15 min
It was in the low 70s at 6 am—a big jump from the upper 50s on Thursday. It didn’t feel too bad, but Scooby was dragging, so I cut my outdoor run short and finished up on the tread. I tacked on a Flash 15 workout, and took the yoga class from the Breakthrough Crew bingo game as an extra stretch.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Those are great hacks to keep up the running mojo. I just sign up for races so that works for me.

Another active week for you. I love how you mmix things up..

  2. Definitely great hacks to stay motivated. I do enjoy the mini challenges as well. Pump it up will be my next one and we can compare to Andy’s

Looks like you’re having fun! I like the runchathunt challenge, although I agree a cat would be hard to get a picture of, even without a dog. They run away pretty fast! I would also have trouble with the cemetery and the mural… the others I could pretty easily find close to home. I also like the the Bingo- and I would have gotten the hours of sleep square last night! It doesn’t normally happen though.

  4. Gosh, I could have hit all the items on the run chat challenge at my race yesterday! I even saw a big frog making his (her?) way across the path when I was near the river in downtown DSM. I had not seen the Pump It UP challenge…how do I keep missing these? I’m planning to start Andy’s challenge this week, though.

  5. Wendy says:

I’ve never done a scavenger hunt on the run, but I sure do find some interesting things! Both on the trails and the road. Maybe I need to focus more on my run instead looking around, lol.

Great job on the Fork to Fondo ride!

  6. Michelle says:

Great ways to stay motivated! I’m looking for another strength challenge so I need to check out Pump Up.

  7. San says:

Nice! I love that someone else is enjoying challenges and Bingo games 🙂 so fun.

I am also starting the Pump up the Volume Program next week. Happy to hear your enjoyed week 1.

  8. Susanne says:

The bingo and run chat challenge look like some good ways to keep going. Running past a cat isn’t easy even without a dog! You’d have to know where to go.
The cycling race route looks very pleasant and it’s a lovely concept cycling between farms and sampling their products (if I’ve understood it correctly?)

  9. Jenn says:

Mini challenges are so fun! I will have to look that one up.

After I upgraded my phone I couldn’t get into my Twitter app – maybe I should just delete it entirely. It’s my least favorite platform.

Great mix of things this week!

  10. I don’t really lack motivation, thankfully — more so in Winter! It’s ben a rough couple of months either being sick & not able to work out the way I’d like to, or taking care of others — and not being able to work out the way I want to, LOL!

I’m glad you’ve found the challenges that are motivating you this Summer!

Maybe you’ll see a cat in a window on the run? That happens to us occasionally. That way Scooby won’t be too excited. 🙂

  11. Renée says:

love these challenges! i’ll have to look up the runchat one for sure. you did great this week, lots of great work done!
