Mother‘s Day Motivation

Happy Mother’s Day! I won’t be seeing either of my kids today, but I will be seeing my Mom, so that’s OK. 🩷

I haven’t put in any flowers yet this year,
but maybe this picture from a few years ago will inspire me.

Mother’s Day Motivation

What I really need for Mother’s Day this year is motivation. I am feeling blah about everything. Running is good, but my left ITB continues to nag. My strength workouts are fine, but not inspiring. Work is chugging along, but I don’t have any exciting projects right now. With Memorial Day two weeks away I am wishing I had a summer vacation planned, but haven’t been motivated enough to figure out what I want to do or where I want to go, let alone coordinate work schedules and Rover availability and start making arrangements. I know I’ll be miserable if I haven’t taken time off by the end of August, so I’ve got to my act together.

Weekly Wrap

At least my workout routine is such a part of my life I don’t need to feel motivated to get it done. Plus, I always have to take Scooby out, so once I’ve gotten up, dressed, and out the door to do that, I might as well keep going. 😉

After Thursday’s run I earned my 9K minutes Peloton badge. The app doesn’t track all-time minutes, but I surpassed the 15K level in 2020 and the 20K level in 2021 and 2022. Now that I usually take a walking class when I walk Scooby, the minutes add up quickly. It took me a long time to even discover the walks but there are a ton of them.

Sunday: Core + Upper Body Strength + 30 Cycling Miles
I did a strength workout before going to church, and then we went on a long bike ride on the W & OD trail. The part we were on cuts through urban and suburban areas, so I was surprised when a fox ran across the trail right in front of me!

Monday:  Core + SFR  + 4.5 Tread Miles
I know it’s a lot to do a long run Saturday, long ride Sunday, and then run again Monday, but I like doing a speed workout to get the week started, and I knew my legs would get a break on Tuesday. Camilla plans her classes thoughtfully, and this one had intervals of increasing length. I prefer classes that go the other way so I can work up to a faster pace for the shorter intervals at the end, but this pattern is good practice for a more disciplined approach.

Tuesday: Core Power Yoga

Wednesday: Core + 40 min Peloton Ride + 20 min Upper Body Strength
When I got to my office gym someone I knew was using the weight area, so I decided to start with a ride. It’s not bad sharing the space with a stranger, but feels more awkward when it’s someone I know.

Thursday: 10 min Core + 4.7 Scooby Miles
This run actually was pretty great—my legs felt good and the weather was perfect—in the low 50s. Plus it was pretty much completely light out when I walked out the door at 5:30 am.

Friday: Core + 20 min FB Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride
I had a 7:30 am conference call and didn’t manage to get out of bed without hitting the snooze button, so I was really crunched for time. I don’t often take Cody’s classes, but liked the format of this HIIT class. It had three blocks of intervals with a 1 min recovery between blocks: 25/35, 30/30, and 35/25.

Saturday: 7.25 Scooby Miles
I was surprised not to wake up to rain, but learned the hard way that the water was just hanging out in the air as humidity. 🥵 This run was a swampy slog with not much enjoyment along the way.

When I got home I wished I had stocked up for an ice bath, but made do with my hot coffee instead.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

I’m not lacking in motivation, but I am frustrated with all the ‘niggles’ that keep popping up. Yesterday, a homeless man in Madison called me ‘grandma’ and it’s enough to make me want to sit in a rocking chair, lol! Let’s both keep pushing through it all! Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. Happy Mother’s Day! I was surprised when it was light out for my morning run, and that was at 6am. In my planning I had put out my Noxgear glow vest and everything, thinking I’d need it. LOL! Hope you find some motivation this week. Maybe it’s the post race blahs?

  3. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

I’m feeling the post vacation blues.

I have zero mojo to do anything. My house really needs attention too.

And I have a race coming up. Pretty nervous about it since it’s been so long since I’ve done one.

Have a great day with your mom.

  4. I have lots of motivation I am just frustrated in general.I vote for planning a trip somewhere new to you that requires a Passport! I have lots of ideas if you need any 🙂

  5. We were going to plan a trip out to see my MIL & SIL, but when my husband looked into flights, it was very expensive (because he thinks everything will always just fall into place because he wants it too). Sooooo . . . we’ll get there but probably not til the Fall.

Which means maybe a NY trip which I’ve dearly wanted to do for a while.

Plan the trip. It’ll give you something to look forward to! Happy Mother’s Day!

That’s another thing that stops me—seeing the shockingly high prices of everything! I just need to accept it and click “buy” anyway.

  6. Marcia says:

Happy Mother’s Day! Sorry you’re feeling a little blah and I hope you’re able to plan some exciting stuff to look forward too soon. It is a wonderful thing to have the workouts basically on autopilot. We’re going on an African safari in less than a month and other than procuring Malaria pills, I’ve done essentially nothing to prepare. Need to get my act together!

  7. Jenny says:

Yes, I’ve been feeling blah too. But my son gets home this week so that should spice things up. I have a similar motivation as you in the morning, but instead of a dog I have my daughter. Some mornings I wish I could just sleep in, but I have to get her up early and ready for school, and if I’m going to do that I might as well work out. Ha, lucky we have them!
Happy Mother’s Day! Seeing your kids would be nice, but seeing your mom is priceless. I miss my mom : (

  8. Ugh, sorry for the blah situation…hoping it ends soon. I go through phases with the Pelo walks (and runs). I seldom follow the cues, but do like the conversation (sometimes!) and the music. They are an easy way to get minutes logged and classes done 😉

  9. Michelle says:

Sorry for the blahs – I vote for planning a vacation soon!

Congrats on hitting 9K on Peloton – I usually listen to a podcast or audiobook when I’m walking. I always forget about the Pelo classes.

    Have a great Mother’s Day!

    • Coco says:

I used to listen to podcasts too, but realized those True Crime stories I like weren’t the best way to fill my head at the start of my day.

  10. Melissa says:

Happy Mother’s Day! Sorry for the blahs. I definitely vote for a vacation or getaway. How about both? I know I could use a day off at home to get stuff done around the house, take care of myself, etc. without the kiddos around. And then of course a vacation! And then another day off to recover from vacation.

  11. Catrina says:

Sorry about the “stuck in a rut” feeling, Coco! But then again, you have a wonderful daily routine and many people would love to live your life. I’m sure a vacation would change your outlook.
Hot coffee instead of an ice bath sounds good to me!!

  12. Renée says:

sorry to hear about your motivation issues – I do understand and that’s probably why I already booked my Sicily vacation, flights and even my birthday dinner reservation haha! I NEED stuff to look forward to. Once you get it figured out, you’ll feel more motivated!

you got some good workouts in, in any case, this week!

  13. Jenn says:

I am glad you got to see your mom! I saw mine Saturday night and we will celebrate next Sunday. Schedules can be hard!

I hope you find that motivation. I’m struggling with mine right now!

  14. Debbie says:

I hope you find a way to get motivated again – perhaps your upcoming race will light a fire?

It’s great that you got to spend time with your mom on Mother’s Day. How’s she doing?

  15. Kim G says:

Congrats on reaching 9K in the Peloton challenge!

I can relate to what you said about motivation. I am definitely lacking in the motivation department currently. I feel like I need to switch things up, but I’m not sure what the means for me yet.

  16. Jessie says:

Ah, Rover availability…important consideration! If I lived hear you, I’d happily watch and run with Scooby!
