Running Out Of 2022

Happy New Year! Before I turn to goal-setting and resolution-making, I am going to reflect on the year that was 2022. It wasn’t my best year of running or cycling, but I logged solid miles in my running shoes and on my bike, and had fun along the way.

Deborah and I will be hosting the first Ultimate Coffee Date of 2023 on Friday, January 6th—please make plans to stop by!

Running Out of 2022–Year-End Numbers

The numbers don’t tell the whole story, but they are a good place to start.

2022 Monthly Running Mileage

Now I’m tempted to set a 75 mile/week goal for 2023.

That dip in June came after I hurt my foot in the Lawyers Have Heart 5K. 🙁

2022 Monthly Cycling Miles

I wish Garmin would show separate graphs for indoor vs. outdoor cycling,
but I ended up with about a 50/50 split.

Peloton Minutes

Yep, that’s over 400 hours,
or about 1.1 hours/day.

I wouldn’t know how to pick a favorite Peloton class, but this is one of my go-to pre-run barre classes, and I do this “post-ride” stretch several times a week—it has about 3 min of calf stretches which my calves sorely need.

Running Out of 2022

I am grateful that I was healthy enough during the last week of 2022 to get in a few more Scooby miles. For some reason taking Scooby out for a run is easier to do when we’ve got houseguests than heading down to my basement for a workout.

Monday: 10 min Core + 45 min Ride + 10 min Arms (Light Weights)
I actually did Hannah F’s Boxing Day ride on Boxing Day! I rarely choose a 45 min ride, but I knew Hannah would have a fun playlist and good programming.

Tuesday: 10 min Core + 5.75 Scooby Miles
I decided to break out my winter running gear and brave the frigid temperatures. It was sunny and not windy, so I was almost comfortable in my cozy gear.

Wednesday: 5 min Core + 10 min Strength + 30 min Tread
My new Brooks Levitate arrived on Tuesday, so I had to take them for a test run. They felt light and supportive at the same time.

Thursday: 5 min Core + 20 min Climb Ride + 10 min Arms (Light Weights)

I actually took this class after my run Friday—
it’s one of my favorite Flash 15s!

Friday: 3.7 Scooby Miles + 35 mile Bike Ride
It started out chilly but temperatures rose quickly and it turned into a great day for a bike ride.

Saturday: 15 min Core + 3.4 Scooby Miles + CorePower Yoga
I was tired after my run + ride yesterday, so I signed up for Ann’s Saturday morning CPY class. I was going to take Scooby on a long walk, but ended up doing an easy run instead.

It was warm and foggy!

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Happy New Year Coco! You had a great year, in spite of that foot injury! I didn’t really set any goals for this year except to have fun in my running shoes, which I did! Avoiding injury is always a goal and after last year, I was happy to escape 2022 with only some minor niggles. Here’s to a healthy, happy year for both of us!

  2. Darlene S Cardillo says:

Look at you in shorts in Dec?

I think you had a great running year… just think it you didn’t have those nagging injuries.

You made up for it with cycling and working out.

    Hope your 2023 is healthy!!!

  3. Way to finish the year with such impressive Peloton numbers! My run mileage was less than expected this year too but as you say, that is not the whole story fo fitness. Wishing you a strong and happy 2023!

  4. Debbie says:

You had a solid year, Coco, congrats! I agree, it’s much easier to go outside than to the basement for a workout when others are around.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, and fit 2023!

  5. Jenny says:

That looks like a nice week- some outdoor runs and a bike ride! Congratulations on all those Peloton hours for 2022. I’m not surprised, because you’re incredibly consistent with your Peloton classes.
I didn’t set any concrete goals for 2022, other than to make it through the year relatively unscathed. I think I’ll be setting some more ambitious goals for 2023. Happy New Year!

  6. Jessie says:

Happy New Year! So glad that injury is in the past. It still looks like it was a successful year Coco!

  7. Susanne says:

That looks like a good year to me, but I’m a beginner runner so maybe I don’t have a say! I only got into training and fitness in March 2022 so didn’t have any goals, but as the year progressed, I became more ambitious and set goals of sorts – one of them was to come back to running in the spring, and I actually did already in November. And to add a second gym session in the week, which I also did in November. For 2023 I want to become comfortable with running and be able to do more of it without getting injuries.

  8. Michelle says:

    Happy New Year Coco!

You had a great year despite the foot injury – and so many Peloton minutes!! I actually didn’t set any goals for 2022 but am feeling like I want to for this year. Of course, pain-free running is at the top of the list!

    Here’s to a great 2023!

  9. Marica says:

Looks like a fun and productive year Coco! You rebounded so nicely after that foot injury. Great job hitting the 20k mark on Peloton!

  10. Oooh, I’m gonna bookmark that Boxing Day ride and Jess’ Flash 15 for tomorrow morning. Thanks! Despite your issues with injuries, I think you still had a solid year! My running miles really tanked these past few months, but the PT took over (as did all the indoor biking), and I’m now running pain-free. Not a bad compromise, right? 😉 Happy New Year!

  11. Catrina says:

74 miles a month is very decent, Coco! But I can see why you would want to reach 75 miles! 🙂
How are your feet feeling in the Brooks Levitate? I’m sure having some support helps to ease the niggles.
    All the best for 2023!

  12. Happy New Year! Congrats on your year of running! I didn’t get to do nearly as much as I wanted thanks to PF hitting me in August, but I’m looking forward to being back and seeing what I can do! I’m also loving all the Peloton stuff and getting deeper into the culture, lol!

  13. Jenn says:

I, for one, am super grateful for your Scooby miles. They are kind of a highlight.

I feel like this wasn’t the best year for a lot of people. I hope things continue to improve so we can show 2023 who’s boss.

  14. Kim G says:

Happy New Year! Great job on ending the year strong.

I enjoyed Hannah’s Boxing Day ride as well – she always has really fun playlists!

  15. Congrats on the 20k Peloton minutes! I am in awe of everyone that makes it to that mark. I think you had a great year with running and cycling! And the variety of Peloton classes. Congrats again! How are you liking the Levitate? I liked the 1st version but then wasn’t too crazy about the other ones.

  16. Shathiso says:

Happy New Year Coco! Here is to many more miles in 2023 – and you should be so proud of all the miles you did in 2022, even when injury struck (not to mention your crazy work schedule), you kept going and adapting as needed.
