Celebratory Coffee Date

Welcome to the July 2021 edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date. At last year’s July coffee date I celebrated my son’s very small (covid-compliant) backyard wedding ceremony. Now I’m feeling celebratory again, as we are looking forward to their wedding celebration–or whatever you call the fun part of the wedding they couldn’t hold last year–friends, family, food, dancing, etc. In the meantime, I’m happy to be kicking off July 4th weekend by hosting the Ultimate Coffee Date link up with Deborah.

Celebratory Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that Scooby and I are celebrating another Lawyers Have Heart age group award.

2021 LHH AG Award

We placed 2nd last year too!

This really is more of a participation award than a running award, but makes me glad I made the effort to do some fundraising, time my run, and enter my time into the portal. 😉

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have been working on the same puzzle all month, but still have a ways to go. Work kept me busier than usual, and it’s harder than I expected!

puzzle

Chagall’s The Circus Horse

I really enjoy doing puzzles based on artwork (thanks, Mom!)–what better way to appreciate every color choice and brush stroke and take in all the details you might miss strolling through a gallery or flipping through a book!

Speaking of books, I did finish one good one this month–The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams. I read it for a book club, and didn’t realize until I read the Author’s Notes at the end that it is based on the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have any plans for July 4th. We won’t go into D.C. to see the fireworks, but we probably will go for a bike ride. ultimate coffee date badge

Have fun on that long-awaited wedding celebration, Coco!

The only reason I’ve heard of Marc Chagall is because a church in Zurich has windows that were made by him.

I recognize his style in your puzzle. I can imagine how it makes you appreciate every brushstroke – looking forward to seeing the final version!

  2. Lisa says:

Congrats on your age group award! I bet it is going to be so fun to celebrate your sons wedding for real. I hope you have a nice 4th of July weekend!

  3. Marcia says:

Have so much fun with the wedding festivities! Congrats on the AG award: I’m proud to know a speedy lawyer! We’re fairly low-key here this weekend, celebrating the Caveman’s birthday as well as July 4th. I’m just grateful for good weather and no more rain!

  4. What a beautiful puzzle, Coco! I’m sorry that work has kept you so busy. Or is that a good thing?

I think we’re going to my mom for the fourth. Although she heard they’re no longer allowing dogs inside and the weather is a bit iffy — it might just be me. Mr.Judy would probably be happy about that. She’s checking it out.

Good job on your participation & your fundraising! I know it’s a cause near and dear to your “heart”. Sorry, had to go there. 🙂

  5. Wendy says:

Aww, have so much fun celebrating your son’s wedding! It’s so great to be able to do things like this–I feel like we all appreciate it so much more. And congrats on your AG award. Have a fun weekend!

  6. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Our usual 4th of July race is actually happening on Monday this year, so we’re planning on a group ride for Sunday morning as well. I love seeing all your puzzles…that’s a great observation regarding all the brush strokes and thought that goes into creating the art 😉

  7. I’m so glad you all are getting the chance to celebrate your son’s wedding! Enjoy!!

Congrats on your AG! I feel like Scooby should get one too 😉

We’re being inundated with rain here but still hoping to enjoy a low-keyed 4th at my brother’s. Have a great weekend!

  8. Darlene says:

That book is on my list. Glad to hear you liked it.

    Love that Chagall puzzle.

No plans for the 4th. Usually boating but the forecast is rain. I have a race the next day. Rain then too, but Monday I have off and have a hike planned. Then back to the office. Boo.

Just out of curiosity, what do you do with your puzzles when you’ve finished them? We did one puzzle we loved so much that we used puzzle glue to stick it together permanently and it’s up in my bedroom.
Congrats on your AG award! And, that’s exciting about the upcoming wedding celebration. No big plans yet for the 4th, but I’m sure we’ll think of something!

    • Coco says:

Good question. So far I’ve just taken them apart. I’ve swapped some with others, but am holding on to the art ones. Maybe I’ll do them again and frame them like you did.

  10. I remember your son’s wedding last year. That doesn’t seem that long ago but also like forever. Enjoy the celebrations and hugs from everyone!

We haven’t done a puzzle in a few months. I guess we’ve both gotten busier, but this makes me want to break one out.

Not much happening here for the 4th. I’m doing a race on the 3rd and we’re going to some small BBQs.

  11. Cari says:

    ooh that book looks good.
I am so not a puzzle person, but we’ll do one next month at Stowe. The same one every time, and we’re still bad at it.

    • Coco says:

LOL on doing the same puzzle. Maybe you’d enjoy a different one more?

      • Cari says:

It’s the one that lives in the unit. Somehow has become a first night tradition, although I’ve just realized I won’t be there the first night so maybe i”m spared

  12. Congrats on yours and Scooby’s award!! I have the same situation with a puzzle right now on my coffee table. Mine is of a beautiful countryside – lovely but too many greens, blues and browns!

  13. kookyrunner says:

The long awaited wedding celebration will be so much fun! Congrats on the Lawyers Have Heart age group award. I love that you do this event every year and have done it virtually the past 2 years to show support.

We purchased 2 puzzles at the end of last year but have yet to do them yet. Maybe I’ll see if anyone wants to do the puzzle with me next week!

  14. congrats to you and scooby! That’s really an accomplishment. Would you believe that I have never run that race in person. Maybe next year w you? Hope the wedding celebration goes well!

  15. runswithpugs says:

Have so much fun at the wedding celebration!

We are having a very chill 4th. Our city is hosting fireworks, but we will go to a friend’s house. We are also dogsitting, so I am all about being home and watching a movie, cuddled with the pups. Who’s a homebody? This girl!

    • Coco says:

A chill 4th sounds great. How do the pugs cope with fireworks? Scooby doesn’t seem to be bothered, but does “woof” from time to time.

  16. Farrah says:

Aww, congrats to your son! Congrats on your age group award too + great job on your fundraising! <3

I ended up going to the beach with my brother and a few friends for the 4th. :] Cold but beautiful (and lots of good food, hehe)!
