Pandemic Easter 2.0

Happy Easter! Remember when our previous President said the virus would be gone by last Easter? I never believed that, but I also never thought I’d still be staying safer at home for a second Easter. But here I am, celebrating pandemic Easter 2.0.

Happy Easter BitmojiMy church actually is holding indoor services today–by reservation, with a diocese-approved, socially distanced seating chart–but since I haven’t received any doses of any covid-19 vaccine yet, I will be attending via Zoom.

Pandemic Easter 2.0

Not only is it my church’s first indoor service since the pandemic, it’s the first Sunday services in our new building. Living up to its name as the Church of the Resurrection, we tore down our original building to build 113 affordable housing units and a smaller church on the same site. We were a “dying congregation” but now have new life. 😉

While the process took longer than many hoped, the timing ended up being perfect since it was only this week that the Diocese of Virginia started permitting in-person worship in our area. Even though I chose not to attend, I know it meant a lot to those who were able to gather in our new space–most of whom are over 65 and fully vaccinated–especially on Easter Sunday!

Speaking of the vaccine, I am feeling like the last person I know to not be vaccinated. Northern Virginia is still in stage 1B, vaccinating people 16-65 with health risk factors. Too bad I’m so healthy?

My weekly reminded to be patient

They’ve said everyone should be eligible for a vaccine as of April 18, but once they open those floodgates, how long will it take to get an appointment? Until them, I am fighting off major FOMO as I see friends make plans, attend social activities, and take vacations.

According to this article from the Washington Post,
I’m not alone in feeling left out.

Speaking of patience–or lack thereof–I was able to start physical therapy this week, two weeks earlier than expected. The PT who evaluated me said my upper back pain likely is related to my fractured rib, as the problem areas are suspiciously in the same place. The good news is that after my massage last week and two PT appointments this week, I already am feeling much better.

The PT is necessary, but does have me inside with others for about an hour at a time. The room is large and we are spread apart, wearing masks, and have our temperatures checked in the reception area, so it’s as safe as can be, but still more public exposure than I’ve had in a year.

Weekly Wrap

This highlight of my week was making it to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms–I shared my favorite pictures at our coffee date. I also logged my 1000th Peloton workout, even as I extended the freeze on my Cyclebar account for what I hope is the last time.

I also learned that the Delaware Half has been postponed, from the end of April to mid-June–maybe. Oh, well.

Monday: Core + 4.0  Scooby Miles + 30 min Strength For Runners
Scooby and I were surprised to see this big Bradford Pear tree down in our neighborhood– Sunday night’s gale winds were no joke! Luckily it missed the house.Scooby By Fallen TRee

I needed to shake off some frustrations after work, and this 20 min ride was fantastic–such a fun playlist, starting with U-2 and including The Cranberries.

Tuesday: Core +  2 Scooby Miles + 6 Cherry Blossom Miles
I actually decided to drive towards D.C. and run to the Tidal Basin while I was running with Scooby. You can’t see the cherry blossoms in this photo, but you can see the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument.

Wednesday: Core + 30 min Strength + 20 min Ride

Peloton Stack

Thursday: Core + 30 min Tread + 30 min Glutes + Legs Strength
Rain had me running on the treadmill, taking Chase’s latest interval class. You can tell from my Garmin data that the intervals got shorter and harder as the class went on.

Friday: Core + 10 min Strength for Runners + 30 min Tread + 10 min Arms
Friday it was the wind chill that had me running inside–feels like 20F on April 2 is not a fun April Fool’s joke! I am learning I don’t like Rebecca’s theme runs–she just doesn’t cue enough variety when she’s focused on the artists. While an easy run was probably what I needed the day before my long run, running easy on the treadmill is so tedious.

Saturday:  Core + 9.05  Scooby Miles
I needed my winter running gear, but the wind had died down, so I didn’t mind running in low 30s. This week my left ankle felt was more naggy than my right ITB. Whatever.

Easter Sunday: Core + 30 min Strength for Runners + Bike Ride
Found another Cherry Blossom sculpture, and have learned that you are allowed to sit in them. I’m not sure I own a jersey that would have clashed less–maybe by purple striped one? 😀

Weekly running miles: 27.75

  1. I feel your pain, you know I was right there with you until recently, but it will still be some time before I can safely mingle — not for another month.

However, my sister just snagged an appointment for J&J (which I haven’t seen anywhere here) for next week. So there you go. She’s been eligible a long time, but I think after talking to me & my brother we finally nudged her into it.

While I may not know what actual route I’m going to run, I do know where I’m going to run (unless it’s closed when I get there, or no parking).

Happy Easter, Coco! Next year you will be back inside the church.

    • Coco says:

Thanks! I now I will be vaccinated before too long — and at church next year!

      • It’s very hard when everyone around you is getting vaccinated, though. I totally get that. I am relieved my sister (who is over 65 & has been eligible for months) finally got an appointment. Because now we’re talking about finally burying my Dad next month.

  2. Way too hot to do a half in June here. I think we have to wait until fall to really have any races here. The vaccine thing is frustrating and you have to stay on top of it checking around. I do think it will start to move even faster I bet you get it toward the end of the month. While I am vaccinated, I am still leery of big crowds and I am sticking to hanging w vaccinated people at the moment. Hope you have a happy Easter!

  3. Hopefully you will get the vaccine soon! It seems to be moving along pretty quickly, even though more and more people are eligible.
Great job with your workouts this week!

    • Coco says:

Yes, I hope my turn comes soon. Once my husband gets his second dose I’m hoping he’ll be willing to dine outside.

  4. jenny says:

Yes, it’s frustrating about the vaccines. I was just able to get my first shot this week, and it was only because my husband knows someone who owns a pharmacy. I’m sure you’ve tried everything, but I know some people who have gotten it simply by calling or stopping by pharmacies later in the day when they’re about to close- if they have leftover vaccines they’ll give it to you.
Sounds like you had a great week of running- Happy Easter!

    • Coco says:

A friend got his that way, but the pharmacies closest to me don’t have it yet, and I can’t spend my afternoons on the hunt. 😉

  5. therightfits says:

Happy Easter! Interesting what your church did- that’s a lot of affordable housing!

I did get my first shot this week, as Minnesota opened up to anyone 16 and over, as we are in a bit of a surge with the variants and the governor really wants to stop it from accelerating. A few friends got J&J here, though their reactions were pretty strong. I’m expecting the worst for the second dose and planning accordingly!

Lots of great Scooby miles! Dogs make the best running buddies.

    • Coco says:

Scooby is such a good running buddy – he’s always happy to be running!

There’s another church in our city starting construction for the same reason. I guess with fewer people attending church these days, churches are looking for good ways to use their valuable property.

  6. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

Glad to hear your back is feeling better. Love all DC pics esp those with monuments.

    That sculpture is so cute.

  7. I feel your pain on the vaccine waiting game. The floodgates open here on 4/19 – should be interesting.

I love that your church built affordable housing in addition to a new church building! Happy Easter Coco!

    • Coco says:

I think their original plan was to just do the housing — and people would join other churches (?), but the Bishop really wanted us to have a church. Since our membership has grown during the process, it was the right decision!

  8. Birchwood Pie says:

Hang in there! The vaccine is coming and it just can’t be much longer for you. At this time last month all I knew was that it was supposed to be open to everyone in my state by May, and then out of nowhere it opened to everyone and now I’m a week away from shot #2. The time has gone by very quickly.

    • Coco says:

Nice! They’re still saying 2 weeks until everyone is eligible, but there are so many of us, I’m not sure how long it will take to find a slot for a shot. 😉

  9. It’s just so crazy how different the states are with the vaccines! I hope you get an appointment soon. That’s very exciting news for your church. Looks like really nice new buildings!

    • Coco says:

The outside photos don’t do the church justice. It’s really pretty inside with soaring ceilings and skylights. 🙂

  10. Marcia says:

I’m not vaccinated either, as it’s not yet “my turn” however it seems to be a wild west in IL. People far younger than I are already vaccinated. So much for following rules. I love that cherry blossom jersey!

  11. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

You, Marcia and I are can be the 3 Covid-Muskateers. I have not been eligible yet either. Tomorrow, though, anyone over 16 is free game in Iowa. Someone jokingly told me I’m “too healthy and too young” LOL

  12. Catrina says:

Haha, Coco, you’re going to be vaccinated WAY before me! Europe is lagging behind the US, it’s quite ridicilous.
My parents, both over 80, just got their first shot in Switzerland. I don’t expect to be vaccinated until August.
Nice workout week! I actually think your bike jersey works well with the cherry blossom! 😉

  13. run.laugh.eat pie says:

No vaccination here. Like with Catrina, we are far behind and the FOMO only fuels my anger!! I have to keep reminding myself to step back and breathe and that my turn will come.

I think your jersey is perfect with the cherry blossom sculpture!

Cyclebar is the in-person classes right??

  14. Congrats on your 1,000 workout! That is amazing. I can understand the frustration with how it is going with the vaccine. This rollout plan was seriously not the best one but at least people are getting vaccinated.

  15. runswithpugs says:

:stomps feet: I want to sit in a cherry blossom! It’s so pretty!

I’m sorry you still can’t get the vaccine! We open to 16 and up today, so I am glad that our first dose is done and our second appointment is set, but the disparity between regions is mind-boggling.

Happy Easter. You know I always love to see Scooby!

  16. Cari says:

Glad you didn’t lose the spring race to Pt/achilles. As I’m still catching up I’d missed this post. So odd how different states & regions are handling eligibility. A friend near ish you was able to get vaccinated around when I did, but another just west of you both hasn’t been able to yet. I’m still skittish around people and crowds. I think that’s going to be with us for some time, especially as we learn how long immunity goes
