Still Runfessing From Home

My church is not yet open for worship, but luckily the runfessional over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice never closed. I’m still runfessing from home, but glad we don’t have to wear a mask to practice safe social distancing as we cleanse our souls soles.

Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.

The first Saturday in June isn’t until next weekend, so make plans to join the June Ultimate Coffee Date then Deborah and I will open the (link-up) doors on Friday, and keep the coffee brewing all weekend. It will be so nice to get together!Runfessing From Home

I runfess that I am getting bored with my stay-at-home running routes, but not bored enough to drive anywhere else to run. Plus, Scooby would be so sad if I went running without him.

He is such a happy running buddy!

I runfess that when I do have to go back to the office, I will miss being able to hit snooze a few times and still get in a full workout or 5+ mile run. That said, despite having a more relaxed schedule, I runfess I still am not taking time for post-run stretching.

I runfess I sometimes need the “trim” feature Garmin rolled out a few months ago for those times you forget to stop recording a workout, but what I really need is a fill-in-the-blank feature for those times I forget to re-start my Garmin mid-run. If I really care, I can use Map My Run to figure out the missing distance, but I usually just guesstimate based on elapsed time–or knowing the route.

Surely they could create an algorithm for the yellow line that follows the sidewalk from where I stopped my Garmin to where I started it again?

I runfess that when I first signed up for the extended free trial period of the Peloton app, I never knew how much I’d love it–or how long I’d need it. Even if local gyms are allowed to open by mid-June, I will start paying for the Peloton app so I can continue working out from home.

I’ve tried all but the cycling and meditation categories

I runfess that while I love the hard treadmill and bootcamp workouts, sometimes I opt for an easier strength or yoga workout because I’m not in the mood to take a shower. I can’t be the only one enjoying not having to shower every day?

I runfess that while some people have been disappointed when their races were changed to virtual events, I was happy to hear that the American Heart Association’s Lawyer Have Heart was going virtual for 2020. The Lawyers Have Heart is my absolute least favorite race but I sign up every year because it supports a cause that is so important to me. The ability to participate without having to run that sun-baked concrete course will make this the best Lawyer Have Heart year ever!

Haha, that trick with the shower!
While I do get sweaty and have to shower every day, I runfess that I skip the hair-washing routine very often. It’s such a hassle!
I agree, some races are not much fun and I’m happy that they go virtual!

My hair is short and fine, and needs washing the most — espeically for all these darn video calls I have now.

I always love your Scooby run photos!

I’m glad that you’re enjoying the Peloton app. Sometimes I take a quick meditation class to help me fall asleep at night. Like you, our gyms here should open up toward the end of June, but if I go back to OTF it won’t be until sometime in July.

There is a rash of car break-ins in in the forest preserve parking lots here. That threat alone keeps my on my “home” trails. Haha! That is so awesome you love the Peloton app so much! Thanks for runfessing!

  4. I am way bored of my running from home which is probably part of my problem right now. I always forget to turn off my Garmin and I often walk at the end of runs. Oh well I really don’t go back to analyze anything I just use it as a record for me. Knew you would love Peloton 🙂

  5. I didn’t know there was a trim feature on Garmin! I will need to try that! I love your idea though. I am also getting bored of my routes, but I’m definitely not motivated enough to drive anywhere to run.

  6. I did not know Garmin had those features.
That is good that you are happy with the virtual race option. Maybe you can create a shady route for yourself!

So sorry I made a Coffee talk this week…. I guess I just lost track of time…lol -M

  7. Even though we are slowly opening up, and my friends are meeting for socially distanced runs, and I’m REALLY bored by running in my neighborhood, still, I’m not ready for group runs yet. Especially as we plan to visit my mom sometime next week. I think.

I also didn’t know about those features in Garmin! I’ll probably never actually use them, but good to know they’re there.

What will poor Scooby do when you go back to the office? My brother will start going back to his (he’s in CA). Something insane like one week in the office, one week at home. He’s looking forward to it.

I didn’t know there is a trim feature on Garmin. I will have to check my watch. I have only had it for about 2 weeks so I am still trying to get used to all the features. Now if I could only figure out how to set it for the ladder interval workout I want to do!

I can understand not wanting to disappoint your running pal. I would run from home too.

    • Coco says:

I think you may have to trim your workout on line, and I’m pretty that’s how you create workouts like that — then they get pushed to your watch.

  9. Wendy says:

I love your suggestion that Garmin allow a fill in when you forget to restart it! If I had a mile for every time that happened….

  10. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Fortunately for me, I have not had to alter my workout routine due to WFH (since I’ve been “office’ing” the entire time). It really has made me appreciate how good I’ve had things here in little ole Iowa 😉 …and I have opted for lighter strength workouts on days when I haven’t wanted to take an extra shower LOL

  11. runswithpugs says:

Oh, please don’t ever make Scooby sad!!!!

My schedule is kind of all over the place, and I imagine it will stay that way for a while. I’ve been able to keep my workouts going, though, so that’s good.

  12. My free trial for Peloton expires in mid-June too and I’m definitely planning to pay to continue.

I had no idea Garmin had that trim feature. I really like your idea for when you forget to restart the Garmin! I do that more times than I care to count!
