July Runfessions

Did the last Friday of July sneak up on you like it did to me?  Thank goodness I saw Marcia’s reminder on Facebook, or I would have missed the July Runfessions link up. It always feels good to bare my soul soles and come clean at the runfessional over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice.

Thanks to Lacey and Miranda for the Fairytales and Fitness Friday Five link up.

Make plans to join the August Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend — Deborah and I will open the (link-up) doors on Friday, and keep the coffee brewing.

July Runfessions

runfess that I am in a good place with my running, even though my mileage has been pretty low.  There was a time when I would have freaked out over “only” running ~ 10 miles a week, but I runfess that I’m over all that now. I’ve swapped weekend long runs for a second bike ride, but I’m going to have to start running long again soon to train for the Reston 10 Miler in September and the Richmond Half in November.

Since it’s been too hot to run with Scooby, I have been walking Scooby at 5 am, driving to work, and then running 3-5 miles from there. I runfess that I never get tired of seeing the D.C. monuments in the morning.

Tidal Basin

I runfess that aside from my workouts, I have been pretty sedentary lately. Last weekend while hiding from our heatwave I watched season three of The Handmaid’s Tale. The whole season. After that, I had to make sure that President Lincoln still has his head. 😉

In an attempt to shame myself into taking action, I also am going to confess that I have been carrying around an order for a (routine) mammogram since June, and still haven’t remembered to make an appointment. I never think of it during office hours ….

How did you cope with the July heat?

Do you put off  making appointments?

My miles are low. And I’m supposedly training for a marathon. But it’s summer.

Luckily I work in air conditioned places and go to the lake on the weekend.

    I actually love the heat.

  2. Marcia says:

I feel you on the mammogram. It’s been way too long. But I do have an appt with a new doc in September so my intentions are good. I’d never tire of those monuments either. Stunning! Thanks for linking!

  3. If I lived near you, I’d be joining you daily for all the monuments, too. Such awesome pics! I got about six months behind on scheduling my mammo, too. UGH.

  4. Well I certainly would not call you sedentary! You have been logging some serious bike miles this summer. I normally would freak out about only have 12 ish miles a week of running mileage as well but so over it. Fall will be here soon- right?

  5. Laurie says:

First, GO GET THAT MAMMOGRAM!!!! I think our running ebbs and flows. No shame in taking a mid0summer break. Both of your fall races are very appealing. I will have to check out the Reston one. Richmond was my hubby’s first marathon and we love visiting that city. Maybe I could convince him to do the half there…

    • Coco says:

Reston is a great one — it’s low-key, with same-day registration possible, but well-organized. It benefits the high school track team, so a lot of the volunteers are students.

  6. Wendy says:

I have no excuse not to get a mamo, since they do them in the office where I work! It’s too convenient. Plus I’ve had to have a biopsy, so it’s always a good reminder to get it. Now the colonoscopy…that’s a whole other thing…

  7. Oh yes, it’s always easy to put off things you don’t really want to do.

I may not have running goals right now, but I like to maintain that base so when I do, I’ll be ready to jump back into training. Since I don’t really have a whole lot of cross training going on with cardio right now, that means running. But most of my runs aren’t very long & I’m enjoying them.

I know you’ll be ready when you get back to more running with all your cross training. Too bad you don’t swim! And I don’t think I’d get tired of seeing the monuments, either.

    • Coco says:

I used to maintain an 8 mile long run base, but now that we’ve been doing the group rides on Saturdays, it’s really hard for me to fit in, since I go to church @ 8 on Sundays.

  8. Chaitali says:

I love those photos you get of your runs downtown, beautiful views! And I’m bad about getting appointments scheduled too. But now that you’ve put it down on here, you have to get it done 🙂

  9. runswithpugs says:

If it requires me making a phone call, I absolutely drag my feet on doing anything. I hate making appointments or doing anything that requires talking on the phone. Ugh. Which reminds me that I should schedule a mammogram. Blech.

Heat is a part of life here. It’s humid and soggy and gross, but that’s Florida. We had a “cold front” the other day. Temps didn’t hit the 90s for the first time in forever. So yay?

I didn’t make it through Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale. I liked it, but we don’t have Hulu and it was getting tiresome to get a hold of the episodes. Maybe I will try again.

  10. Ok go get that mammo!

Nothing wrong with shifting your focus away from running. You are certainly logging some serious cycling miles and you’ve got time before your races.

And I don’t blame – I wouldn’t get tired of those monument views either! I love seeing your photos 🙂

  11. Cari says:

I totally agree on the views never getting old. I’ve said more than once that if happens, it’s time to move.

  12. Farrah says:

The weather there was definitely super hot and humid when I went! I’m glad running is going well for you though!

I’m so behind on The Handmaid’s Tale!!

  13. Black Knight says:

When the weather is hot, to drop the mileage is a wise solution. I did it too late and now I am off since last Sunday.
A run near the DC monuments is priceless, I remember I made a workout there when I visited Washington.

  14. The hot weather has made my workouts so much more challenging, which I love! I like feeling like I actually worked up a sweat. It’s great that you’ve been biking! As long as you’re staying active, that’s the most important thing!

  15. angela@marathonsandmotivation.com says:

Thank you for the reminder about the mammogram, I ‘m over due too! Let’s get them scheduled STAT!! My running is down right now due to the heat!

  16. Bethany says:

Yow😁. As for me, I’m not running as often as I should. 🙂

  17. I’m glad that you are happy with your running. I never stressed over low mileage as long as I had some good runs during the week.

I am sorry we didnt get the link-up up on Friday. Please forgive us.
