Falling For Fall

Well, hello, fall! You sure took your time to get here, but I hope you stick around for a while before winter takes over!

Falling For Fall Pumpkins

Fall is my favorite time of year for many reasons–great running weather, wearing my favorite boots, indulging in apple cider donuts ….

Falling For Fall

This week was crazy at work, so I don’t have much to share other than my workout recap. I am looking forward to starting Hell Week at Orange Theory Fitness next week, although now that I’ve seen a preview of the workout names, I am a bit worried! The first one has a burpee theme–I guess that scares everyone!
(If you’re curious about Hell Week, check out my recaps from 2016 and 2017)

Monday: 2G Class at Orange Theory Fitness
I forgot to set my alarm after being in Chicago last week (did you see my #runrise photos from my Lakefront runs?) and barely had time to walk Scooby before work. I thought I might be able to escape work for a 3:30 OTF class, so I grabbed a change of clothes just in case. (Unlike the 5 am classes that fill up weeks in advance, the early afternoon classes do not get full, up, so I could go as a walk-in.)

2G = two groups: row/floor block + treadmill block

I don’t know if it was the stress of getting to class, the stress of the day, the intensity of a 2G class, or still fighting off that virus, but my heart rate was higher than ever. I’ve never had so many “red” points and I had to take an extra walk break during the treadmill block to get my heart rate down into the “orange” zone.

Tuesday: 45 min CycleBar class with Aimee
I wasn’t sure how my legs would cope with spinning just 13 hours after OTF, but they didn’t complain too much! Aimee had a fun playlist and confessed her excitement about the New Kids On The Block Mixtape Tour she got tickets for next spring, with New Kids On the Block, Salt N Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Tiffany, and Debbie Gibson. And she wonders why she is assigned the “Flashback” theme rides!

Wednesday: 4.3 Scooby Miles
While I am loving the fall weather, I am not loving running in the dark. It takes a lot of concentration running with Scooby–especially since he prefers to be on sidewalks, which are more uneven than the street–but he loves to run so much I can’t resist.

Scooby Miles

Thursday: CPY2 at CorePower Yoga
I finally made it to Ann’s CPY 2 class in her new Thursday time slot. My brain prefers yoga on Friday, but it was a fantastic class.

Friday:  Strength Training
More alarm woes ate into my workout time–this time I turned off my alarm instead of hitting snooze–but I had time for a quick (20 min) strength workout.

Scooby just can’t resist my mat.

Saturday: 4.3 + 5.2 mile runs
Early morning rain showers kept us snuggled in bed instead of out on our bikes, but when the rain cleared up I took Scooby out for a run, and then did another 5 miles on my own.

After a speedy run chasing squirrels with Scooby my legs felt like lead on my solo run. I thought this construction worker could be commenting on my pace, so I asked if he minded if I took a picture. 😉

Sunday: CPY2 at CorePower Yoga
When the Reston Bicycling Club canceled their group ride because of high winds, I knew I wouldn’t be getting on my bike today. After Saturday’s tough run I knew running was out of the question, so I opted for yoga–which I’ll be missing this week for Hell Week.

It’s weeks like these that make me extra grateful for the Weekly Wrap link up hosted by Holly and Wendy to keep me accountable and motivated. Join in and share your inspiration

Anyone else doing Hell Week?

Good luck to everyone heading this way for MCM on Sunday!

You had an awesome week of workouts!

Totally agree with you about the dark mornings now. It’s still pitch black when I leave for work in the morning and it doesn’t help that it’s also getting darker earlier now in the evening. That’s the only thing I don’t like about Fall/Winter!

  2. Wendy says:

I didn’t run the entire time I was away so now my dilemma is–do I get up early tomorrow to run? Or just wait until Wednesday and get back on track. Ugh….

Looking forward to your recap of Hell Week! LOL

  3. I am loving this weather! I also went to CP2 today love it after long runs.

It’s Hell Week already? Wow, time flies. I can’t wait to hear the different themes. They are always so clever. The construction worker sign is really funny. It’s nice he played along and let you take his pic. Good luck with your week in Hell. Thanks for linking!

  5. Hell Week does sound like something awful LOL No, I will not be joining you 😉 Our temps got so cold last week…we’ve been in the freeze zone forever (in the early mornings and overnights). I keep saying I want my summer back, but even a little bit of fall would be nice, too.

  6. Lesley says:

What is Hell Week? Sounds like some good workouts, even in the dark. I’m in the process of building a new routine, and am not sure whether I want light in the mornings or evenings.

Hell Week is an Orange Theory Fitness gimmick. 😉 They do 8 days of Halloween-themed workouts. If you go to 5 of them you get a special t-shirt — and bragging rights.

  7. Haha last time I heard anyone mention Hell week it was in college when they were referring to our sorority rush.

I could see where running in the dark with Scooby can be a bit scary. How far do you usually run with him? -M

  8. Marcia says:

OMG MCM on Sunday! That came up fast. All the best with hell week. Sounds absolutely torturous. Aren’t dogs SO hard to say no too??

  9. Liz Dexter says:

Burpee theme! Argh! I am not loving dark evening runs but if I don’t do them, I miss running club. I’m fortunate I have some running friends who are available in the daytime if I need company.

  10. Laurie says:

You do such a variety of training. Your schedule looks so appealing to me! I am looking forward to adding in more cross-training after MCM. I had to stop doing most of my cross training because it was aggravating my damaged hip. 🙁

  11. Well, you sure had lots to report! Fighting off something can definitely raise your heart rate.

Be careful out there with Scooby in the dark! I haven’t run with Bandit since last spring. Sometimes on our cooler walks I’m sure he’d like to run, but Mr. Judy & Lola can’t. And most of the time I’ve either just run or am going to run (and not in the neighborhood).

  12. chaitali says:

Fall definitely got to us this week! I’m crossing my fingers it stays for a while too. I’m also looking forward to the time change so we have some more sunlight in the morning 🙂

  13. Farrah says:

haha, I feel like it skipped right over fall and straight to winter weather for me! :[ Great job on your week of workouts! Scooby is so cute! :]
