May Runfessions

How is it time for our monthly Runfessions already? Maybe it’s a good thing the last Friday of the month came so early, since I’ve got plenty to runfess already. It always feels good to bare my sole and take a deep cleansing breath before moving on to a new month.

I blogfess I didn’t make a new image for May, because I like these flowers.

Link up your own runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice and join the Friday Five link up at Running On Happy and Fairytales and Fitness. Next weekend Deborah and I will be kicking off summer with the June Ultimate Coffee Date, so make sure you join us.

May Runfessions

I runfess I’m having mixed feelings after completing the Denver Colfax Half  Marathon last weekend. It was fine. I did fine. It just wasn’t fun.

Full recap coming Sunday — I promise!

I runfess that my official finish time was 1:56:03, not the 1:55:27 my Garmin recorded. I was confused when I got the results, but then realized that my Garmin didn’t count the time I stopped to take pictures of the tiger getting its breakfast. I’m not trying to fool anyone, but my Garmin time is a more accurate reflection of my running time. Plus, I’m too lazy to make a new FitSnap image.

I runfess that I ‘m starting to regret my decision not to buy wireless headphones at the Cherry Blossom expo. I still love my Yurbuds, but apparently Scooby does too.

He chewed up my iPhone earbuds, my Yurbuds, and the pouch I had them in.

I runfess that for the first time ever I signed up for the 5K  of the Lawyers Have Heart event, instead of the 10K. The 5K route includes the worst of the 10K course (out and back along the shadeless, concrete Whitehurst Freeway), but hopefully it will suck half as much running half as long.  My son’s girlfriend is doing the 5K as her comeback to running after knee surgery, and I’d rather cheer her on at the finish then make her wait around for me. So, really, it’s a selfless decision.  😉

You can help me support the American Heart Association via my donation page.

I runfess that I let the Army Ten Miler early registration period come and go, and didn’t try to register during open registration either. I won’t say that I’m done with this race, but I’m not ready to commit to an October race–especially one I’ve already done ten times.

Do you use bluetooth headphones?

What’s the worst thing your dog chewed up?

  1. I read this and went “crap, is it Friday already?” Then I realized you posted it on Tuesday LOL.

  2. Oh I’m sorry to hear about your headphones, my sister’s cat used to get her paws on mine all the time. I’m sure you could keep an eye out on discounts for Aftershokz, I love my pair!

Sorry you didn’t enjoy your half as much as you liked. I look forward to hearing your recap!

  3. Debbie says:

There is just something about earbuds that dogs seem to love (yuck!). I love my wireless headphones, both my Trekz Titanium and my Jaybirds, but I’m careful not to leave them where the dogs can get to them.

  4. I totally stopped using earbuds all together bc I am so busy chit chatting with all the MRTT ladies.

  5. wireless headphones are so nice! Get some. LOL

  6. I’m late to the party (actually, I still haven’t arrived LOL) with wireless headphones. I have gotten so that I don’t uses them as often as I used to anyways.

  7. Kim G says:

So sorry that Scooby discovered your headphones 🙁 but at least now you have a good reason to make the switch to wireless headphones?

  8. Why wasn’t Colfax fun? I’m sorry you didn’t have the best time. So since I have a cat, I will tell you what he peed on this morning. My sweatshirt. I had it laying beside my bed and when I woke up this morning and put it on, I realized he had peed on it in the middle of the night. What a way to start the day!!!!!

  9. Lesley says:

My cat loves to chew cords, and past headphones have been casualties.

I feel the same way about doing Bay to Breakers. I’m happy with my effort, but there was a lot going on that made it not fun.

  10. I have bluetooth headphones that are just the buds and I don’t like them as much as I was hoping too. I don’t know if it is the buds themselves or what but I cannot go on a run without having them pause then I have to hit play on my ipod again. It’s like they get disconnected or something.

  11. Wendy says:

Dogs definitely go for the gross stuff–the earbuds because, ear wax. My dogs in the past have gone for retainers too. Cocoa chews everything in sight! She loves her sticks.

I was going to run the Memorial Day race in my town this weekend, but I considered just doing the 5k instead of the 10k this time. I’m not going to do either tho–we’ve got graduation that day and I don’t want to risk missing it!

  12. I runfess that running hasnt’ been fun for me for a while and my half last weekend wasn’t fun either!
I have blue tooth headphones but only used them when my bike is on the trainer. Otherwise, they just don’t stay in.

  13. Lucie says:

I do have bluetooth headphones and like them. And I also have a dog that chews my stuff. Lately it was my tri-kit shorts. The only pair I have! Grr!

  14. Sorry Scooby got to your earbuds. I love my Aftershokz and I runfess I store them on a shelf in my mudroom to keep them away from my pup, who thinks all of my run stuff belongs to him! LOL!

  15. Marcia says:

Oh man, do I sense a trend here? Ozzy just chewed up my Plantronics wireless earbuds. Sigh. Waiting with bated on that Colfax recap.

  16. Rachel says:

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your earbuds. RIP!!

    • Coco says:

I know, right?! Although I just realized I can use the earbud covers (which he didn’t chew) to replace the ones I lost from my other Yurbuds after my last race. So, there’s that.

  17. Bandit has a thing for socks, which we were warned about. Mr. Judy leaves socks laying around sometimes. And yes, sometimes — but not always — Bandit eats them. Thankfully he seems to digest it okay so far.

None of my dogs have been terribly destructive or truly ruined anything — with the exception of the one trial adoption we had before Chester (and obviously we ended up not keeping this dog) when the dog ate the bathroom when I went to go buy a crate.

Do you think the altitude had anything to do with the race not being fun, or was it just the race itself?

    • Coco says:

I think the altitude may have been a factor, but also the grey weather –although I do think it’s perfect running weather, it didn’t help with blah scenery and hid the mountain views I love so much.

  18. Such a bummer when you run a race but there’s no fun in it. I felt that way with a local half I did a few years ago. I have the completely wireless Jaybird RUNs, but have yet to test them out!

  19. Bummer about those headphones. I have a few pairs of wireless headphones (cannot remember the brands) and for the most part like them. However, I am still trying to figure out how to make them fit correctly so they do not fall off.

  20. Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says:

Ugh, sorry about your headphones! I don’t use them anymore, I just play Pandora on my phone and listen to it without headphones. It is nice as I can hear everything around me as well!
