If we were having coffee, I would ask if you plan to go see fireworks. Then I would ask if your town has fireworks on July 4th. Living near D.C. it never crossed my mind that July 4th celebrations would be held on any other day, but I’ve heard that some places have their events on the weekend. I think we’ll watch them from the roof of my office building unless my kids convince us to brave the crowds on the Mall.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you are doing a July 4th race this weekend. Although I don’t like summer running, I have made exceptions for the Go Fourth 8K which lures me in with cold watermelon at the finish.

If we were having coffee, I’d invite you to celebrate your independence from unhealthy habits and unhealthy expectations and enjoy the freedom of knowing that you can do hard things–and have fun while you try

I didn’t even consider 4th of July races this year! Maybe I should see if there are any I can still sign up for.
Apparently they do “weekend” celebrations here, not necessarily July 4th ones. I find it strange too! Have a great long weekend, Coco!

  2. TriGirl says:

Hey Coco, I got excited about the thought of joining a linkup, but I didn’t realize it was specifically a coffee date one. Feel free to delete my link (I can’t seem to do it myself). Sorry about that!!

  3. We don’t see fireworks because Lola is scared of loud noises, so we can’t bring her & we don’t like to leave her home alone, either. There is fireworks on the weekend AND the 4th, too.

Oddly enough we saw fireworks on the train ride home from NYC last week.

I do a 4 mile race on the 4th. It starts too late but has great spectator support & I’ll go with my neighbor. Last year we caught a break & it was drizzly & cool — no such luck this year. Probably my last race until sept.

    Enjoy your race & holiday!

  4. Happy Fourth of July! We celebrated Canada Day yesterday – I didn’t watch any fireworks but I could hear them when I went to bed. 🙂 Enjoy that 8km race. Post race watermelon? I’m IN! It’s the most delicious thing after a hard run!

  5. Marcia says:

Fireworks on the mall must be stunning. How great you have a crowd-free vantage point! We’ll be in NC this year so we see fireworks at the UNC stadium. I’ll race a 4 miler there as well. Happy weekend!

  6. Boston does a great fireworks show with the Pops and all, but we tend to avoid the crowds and go for one of the more local shows. I’m not a fan of summer racing either but I will be running a 10K this weekend. Happy 4th!!

    • Coco says:

Have fun with your 10K! I ber fireworks with the Pops would be fantastic. If we let him, my husband will stay home and watch the Fireworks and Capital Fourth concert (that Cynthia works on!) at home.

  7. I’ve got a 10k to line up for tomorrow. I’m hoping my feet behave!

  8. I was supposed to do a 5K but now I am thinking of sleeping in and going biking instead. We don’t usually go to the fireworks but can often see some from our house. Hope you have a great weekend! Nice catching up over coffee

    • Coco says:

Hah! I may skip the race to get my run done EARLIER, but I’m that person who woke up at 5:27 today without an alarm. 🙂

  9. Shandy Jo says:

No 4th of July races for me. We usually can see fireworks from our house or the neighbors set off some.

  10. Karen says:

I really want some watermelon now LOL so refreshing 🙂
You get some doozie of 4th celebrations, I can’t hubby out in the crowds, so we usually just chill and watch on TV every year lol

  11. HoHo Runs says:

They’ll have fireworks at the baseball stadium after the game. They are actually pretty impressive, considering. I’ve seen the DC fireworks in my youth! I love watermelon after a race but sadly no races here. I normally eat mine at room temp with salt! Thanks for the linkup!

  12. No July 4 race for me, but I will be celebrating with a nice long bike ride! One of the local bike clubs hosts a fun organized ride and I’ll be doing either the 50 or 68 mile distance for fun!

  13. In Chicago, it used to be an annual tradition that the city did their July 4th fireworks on July 3. Maybe so folks could stay out all night and party without having to worry about going to work the next day? Watermelon after a race or run – YUM. I’ve never done a July 4th race – maybe one of these years!

  14. Farrah says:

I hope you have an awesome 4th of July! 😀 I’m actually hearing fireworks outside as I type! 😛

  15. I have a 5K in the morning and I can see the Legoland fireworks from my backyard 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  16. Have an awesome 4th July!

I hate summer running too. I already find running quite difficult, even without the heat, so the heat just makes it worse.. I must admit, a cold piece of watermelon sounds lush for after a race though!

  17. They stopped the big fireworks in Chicago a few years ago (budget cuts!) I have to say it is ok with me because it was a big pain to get down there and home. Lots of people do them all over the place here.

I am doing 4 on the 4th for the first time tomorrow. It is usually sweltering here, too, but this weekend is mild and lovely.

  18. No fireworks for us this weekend because our Independence Day is July 14th here in France… any we never go to fireworks because the loud noise has always scared my daughter. But the fireworks are not always on the 14th, they can be the day before depending how the holiday falls.
