Favorite Photos Of Washington D.C. Monuments

Every year for the past few years I’ve made a calendar out of my favorite photos. Last year I made a calendar using pictures I took out my office window. Before that, I made calendars using pictures of different places I’d run. This year, I made a calendar out of pictures I’ve taken of Washington D.C. monuments. Since these are some of my favorite pictures of 2015, I’m joining the Friday Five link up hosted at Eat Pray Run DC, Mar on the Run and You Signed Up for What?! (Sorry, I couldn’t pick just five!)

Washington D.C. Monuments

Here are my pictures in the order I arranged them in my calendar. It doesn’t exactly match when I took them, but it comes pretty close.

March: The George Mason Memorial

(across from the Jefferson Memorial)

Random Notes:

  • The Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial and Iwo Jima Memorial actually are located in Virginia, but the rest of these monuments are in Washington, D.C.
  • I only discovered the George Mason Memorial this year, during a pre-dawn run around the Tidal Basin. I’m not sure how I’ve missed it before, but the way it was illuminated finally caught my attention.
  • All of these are “no filter” pictures taken by my trust iPhone on my early morning runs.

  1. I love this – and this is such a good idea for a calendar. I may be stealing it! 🙂

Oh what beautiful photos! And, again, I want to visit Washington. It’s on my bucket list…once the Canadian dollar recovers somewhat. That George Mason Memorial is especially captivating…not as grandiose as some of the others, but with a special character. And the skies in some of the pics…amazing!

    • Coco says:

Thanks. We get some amazing sunrises. Recently they’ve been during my commute instead of my runs, but soon I hope to be capturing great sunrises again.

  3. Sherry says:

Awesome pics! I really like the February Washington Monument one, Iwo Jima, and Jefferson Memorial ones!

Your photos are absolutely beautiful. People who live in or near DC are very lucky for the ability to enjoy such amazing venues and historical sights. My favorite pic is the Navy-Merchant Marine one. The blue sky in the backdrop makes for a stunning pic.

  6. Really gorgeous!

You have no idea how lucky you are to run with such beautiful scenery (and don’t even get me started on the cherry blossoms).

  7. These are beautiful! I love that you’ve turned them into a calendar. I use to make my grandma a calendar each year of our family pics. It was the one gift she looked forward to each Christmas. She has since passed and I miss making those calendars!

    • Coco says:

Aw, that’s so sweet! When my kids were younger we did those Sears’ family portrait pictures for family but that was before the age of Snapfish!

  8. I always love all of your photos! You could sell your own calendar indeed!

Absolutely beautiful pics!! You captured the majesty of the monuments along with some beautiful sunrises. I’ve been to DC a few times, but never had the opportunity to take it to the streets in my running shoes. Lucky you!!
