Hemp Heart Bars Review

I discovered Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts last year, and they have become a staple in my pantry. I enjoy them in simple ways–sprinkled on toast, baked into muffins, and added to my oatmeal. So, when I had an opportunity through SweatPink and FitApproach to try the new Hemp Heart Bars from Manitoba Harvest, I jumped at the chance.

Hemp Heart Bars Review
Since this week’s Friday Five link-up hosted by Courtney at Eat Pray Run D.C., Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?! and Mar at Mar on the Run relates to Food & Drink, I am going to share five things to love about Hemp Heart Bars in this Hemp Heart Bars review.

Manitoba Harvest sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own!

  1. Hemp Heart Bars are made with hemp hearts (raw shelled hemp seeds), which have a slightly nutty taste and have more protein and omega-3/omega-6 fatty acids per serving than chia or flax seeds.
  2. In addition to hemp hearts, Hemp Heart Bars are made with organic ingredients like organic coconut palm sugar, organic brown rice syrup, and organic sunflower oil. Each bar has 230 or 240 calories, 3-4 g fiber, 8-10 g sugar, and 10 g protein.
  3. Hemp Heart Bars come in three delicious flavors: Vanilla (with organic vanilla flavor and sea salt), Chocolate (with organic dutch process cocoa), and Apple Cinnamon (with dried apple and cinnamon).
  4. You can get 15% off a case of Hemp Heart Bars using the code hhbarlaunch1015 on the Manitoba Harvest website. Code expires 3/31/2016.
  5. Manitoba Harvest is running a photo contest on Instagram and all you need to do to enter is share a photo tagging @manitobaharvest and using the hashtag #fuelledbyhemp (note the spelling–is that Canadian?). You could win a case of Hemp Heart Bars! Please see their contest page for more information.

Hemp Heart Bars ReviewSo far I tried the Chocolate variety and really like it. The flavor is mild, does not leave an artificial aftertaste, and is not too sweet. (Hemp Heart Bites are too sweet for my tastes.) The texture is soft and chewy, but not as sticky as some bars that are based on dried fruit.

  5. Emily says:

I love that it doesn’t leave an aftertaste. That is probably the one issue that I’ve found with some energy bars is the interesting aftertaste that they leave. O_O

Hemp is a plant … it is in the same family as marijuana, but has a very small THC content. Manitoba Harvest promises eating their products won’t impact a drug test, but my husband won’t touch them. 😉

  9. I liked the hemp heart bites, but no one at my house did…

  10. Farrah says:

I love hemp hearts! That’s awesome that they made it into bar form (haven’t had the chance to try them out yet, but hopefully soon)! :] Apple cinnamon sounds awesome!

  12. I liked the hemp heart bites, but I agree they were slightly too sweet. I would love to try one of these to compare.
