I had a quick business trip to California last week, with two days of traveling for a one day meeting. I didn’t want to adjust to the time difference for such a short trip, so when I woke up at 3:30 am local time, I decided to get up and see what I could put together for hotel room workouts.
I had brought my Kindle for reading on the cross-country flights, so I logged on to the hotel wireless to see if I could find any no-equipment exercise videos.
I found this full-length Jillian Michaels “Yoga Meltdown” program on Amazon Prime.
Only Jillian would call this “yoga,” but it was a decent workout that got my heart rate up. She leads you through different sequences that are based on yoga poses, but the feel is more like a fast-paced strength workout than even a flow yoga class.
I also did the body weight workout from my BestBodyBootcamp program. Those three rounds of squat moves, plank variations and glute bridges targeted any muscles that Jillian missed!
The second morning I searched on YouTube to find a “real” yoga program. This “Yoga Practice for Runners” program from Ekhart Yoga caught my eye.
It was a good program and I have added it to my favorites for future use.
The hotel did have a small gym–that’s a treadmill in the far corner–but I wasn’t in the mood to workout in such an uninspiring place, and didn’t want to wait until it “opened” at 6:00 am.
All in all, I think I did pretty well with my hotel room workouts!
Have you been disappointed by a hotel gym?
Do you do hotel room workouts when you travel?
nice work! i do love working out when i travel – mostly because i don’t have much of a schedule when i travel, so itz fun to see how i can fit fitness in!
This is a great way to get in workouts during those conferences and traveling. I will definitely visit often, because this year is my year to get healthier. I am glad to have you as inspiration and a virtual workout buddy!
Nice job. I love that you took a picture of your workout ‘space’. Not much room there. I’m chuckling at Jillian’s ‘Yoga’ workout. Sounds like what I’d expect.
I love doing hotel room workouts! Glad you found stuff to do that early in the morning. It is amazing how awful some hotel fitness rooms are – barely more than a creaky bike and treadmill.
Both of those yoga workouts look good!
I’d say you did a great job with the hotel room workout. Way to be creative and not let life on the road break your routine.

My husband decided to do the ‘insanity’ dvd’s on our latest trip…. one problem that we found is that the concrete floors in the hotel room were hard on his knees! Just something to keep in mind.
