Heart Rate Monitor Training

I’m finally getting interested in heart rate monitor training. I feel like all of my fit friends were really into heart rate monitors last year, but I just haven’t been interested in those numbers until now.

Heart Rate Monitor

I think because my Garmin VivoSmart hardly gives me any credit for spinning class, I wanted some “proof” that I am working as hard as I’m sweating!  Continue reading

The February 2015 Ultimate Coffee Date

Welcome to the February Ultimate Coffee Date! Please help yourself to a cup of coffee or tea, pull up a chair, and let’s catch up!

The Ultimate Coffee Date

(Use the code above to grab the Ultimate Coffee Date badge for your blog!)

If we were having coffee, I would have to ask you to help yourself, because I can’t move after the Solidcore class I did last night with one of my Ultimate Coffee Date co-hosts, Deb. I will be writing up a full review soon, but for now I just need you to understand that my core wasn’t the only muscle group that got a workout!

Coffee Date With Deb

We are ready for our coffee date!

If we were having coffee, I would ask you to remind me that my first race of 2015 is only three weeks away and ask me what I am doing to get ready for it! I have added hills to my running program, and I chose the 5K option of Laura’s 5 by the 5th series so I can focus on speed, but I haven’t given up my weekly spinning class to get up to three run a week. :-/

5 by 5th Medal

I don’t think I will be setting any records at the Reston 10 Miler, but since I didn’t run that fast during the Reston Perfect 10, there is still a chance I could set a course PR. 😉

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have any plans for Valentine’s Day. I’ve sent my daughter something special, but I don’t even have a card for my husband! When Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend like this year, we usually stay in to avoid the crowds–how about you?

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you saw my post about American Heart Month and why taking steps to prevent heart disease is so important to me. While the official “Go Red” day was on Friday, it’s never too late to be heart-healthy!

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for stopping by, and let you know that we should catch up more often!

Footprints In The Snow

Footprints In The Snow

Footprints In The Snow

Big prints, small prints,
Boot prints, paw prints.
Footprints in the snow let me see
What usually only Tiger Lilly sees.

Where the newspaper was delivered to the door.
Where the deer ran across the road.
Now, where did that fox go?

Loving Lately: Pizza, Donuts, And Chocolate

I thought the first Wednesday of February would be a good time to share some foods I’m loving lately! Although I like to cook dinner at home, especially on the weekend when I have more time, my husband and I usually go out to eat on Saturday nights–our date night. We have a lot of good restaurants to choose from, but we keep going back to this one.

Lost Dog Cafe

The Lost Dog Cafe has great pizzas and a large selection of craft beers–what more can a rungry girl want? Our favorite pizza is The Burro, which is sort of like a vegetarian taco salad on a pizza crust. It is even topped with shredded iceberg lettuce and slices of fresh avocado. It is so good! I spend a ridiculous amount of time craving its delicious goodness and planning our next night out. I was excited when they opened a new location close to our house–and disappointed relieved when we found out that we live outside of their delivery area.  Continue reading

Take Care Of Your Heart – Go Red For Women

You probably know that February is American Heart Month, the month when the American Heart Association asks us all to learn more about the risks of heart disease and the steps we can take to improve our odds for staying healthy. You also probably have heard through the Go Red For Women campaign that heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States.

Go Red For Women

If you’ve been around my blog for a while, you know that I started taking my heart health more seriously after contracting a DVT and losing my Dad to sudden heart failure. I support the American Heart Association through the Lawyers Have Heart 10K, and do my best to encourage friends and family to take care of their hearts. Continue reading
