Observing Ash Wednesday Without Judgment

Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent, which is a 40-day period of repentance and reflection that many Christians observe before Easter.

My faith practice focuses on God’s love and grace more than our sin and need for redemption, but the Ash Wednesday liturgy may be my favorite service in the Episcopalian Book of Common Prayer. Continue reading

Which Vacation Are You?

I’ve gotten into a habit of watching the morning news while I’m doing my strength workouts. It’s enough to keep me entertained, but not so engrossing that I catch myself resting longer than I need to between sets so I don’t miss anything. (I save that kind of TV-watching for the treadmill!) I was excited to be chosen by Fit Approach and Manitoba Harvest to review Hemp Hearts. I actually have tried them before, so I knew that I could recommend them without hesitation. My husband was a bit curious when he saw the package, but I assured him it is a nutritious food, not a dubious recreational substance! 😉

Hemp Hearts
I am not usually a fan of adding extras to my food–I don’t need more calories that I won’t notice eating– but each 30 g serving has 10 g plant-based protein and 10 g omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Since I have been learning about the health benefits of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and the protein in Hemp Hearts seems to make them filling, this is one “extra” that I don’t worry about enjoying.
